So now there are four interpretations of what the next Corrado will be...

Leftlanenews.com
We haven’t heard too much about the 2008 Volkswagen Scirocco lately, but Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport has just published a new artist’s rendering of the yet-to-be-announced car. While AutoCar, AutoBild and others have forecasted a Scirocco with a low, sloping roof and coupe-like profile, AMS is calling for something quite different. The image shows a vehicle with a hatch-like shape, similar to the original Scirocco and Corrado models. We’re not sure who to believe, but time will tell. So far, VW has only committed to a “2+2 sport coupe that hearkens to the heyday of the Scirocco.”

...I'd like to see what the Auto Motor Und Sport rendering looked like from the front, but I think the AutoBild #1 photo looked great as well. They need to keep the look tied with the GTI and the Eos, and both seemed to do it quite well.

nothing official here from vag. those photoshops need work too. why is it that all magazines publish rumors with fake pictures

I'm betting on the Auto Motor und Sport tail with the Autocar front.

I have to agree with Z32, though. It's pretty irritating to deal with these fake pictures -- they should just stick to drawings, so you know that what you're looking at is just an idea.

I like the Autocar and AutoBild#1 versions, they both look similar apart from the front end detailing.

The Auto Motor Und Sport looks too similar to the TT shooting brake concept and the AutoBild#2 looks like a red banana.

Autobild #1, if they bring back the Corrado that has to be what it will look like. Damn photoshops are making me drool.

I hope ^ that one wins.. I love the way the kept the profile on the rear window area from the "original" Corrado !...

Yeah the AutoBild#1 version is probably the closest to the original, but I think I prefer the look of the AutoCar cover version.

I think that if VW does decide to reincarnate the Corrado, It would look like a combination between the first two photos.

I like the red PS'ed version because of the aggressive shape but I feel that the first two pictures have many of the same qualities. The front and rear are also a good match to the current styling.

Alas, I hope VW decides to make it a rear-drive vehicle although chances are slim.

Is it just me, or does the first picture look like it has Mazda tail lights? :odd:

Hopefully the final product will look a bit like the AutoBild #1 version as it stays true to the original in shape, and in my opinion the best looking. 👍

I can see VAG using a lot of pieces from the GTI and Eos to make the new Corrado, not only because they are available, but to keep costs down (actually, way-down) assuming the car is on it's way to production.

...But then I got to thinking...

Couldn't they just seal up the top to the Eos, strap on a hatchback, and call it a day? Or would that be too easy? I'm a VW guy, and although it may sound odd, I'd almost consider the Eos a "semi-Corrado" when the top is up...

Ive thought of that as well. They would need to make the rear window lift with the trunk though to keep to the original. Oh yeah, if they REALLY want to make it authentic, they need to make sure they break often! :scared:

While I have yet to see an Eos in person, the pictures make the car look nice.

+1 for the Autobild 1. Looks great. 👍

I really hope it won get the EOS headlights, as in the Autocar, it just doesn't do it for me.

As I had said before, if they can stick the first Autobild front on the Auto Motor Und Sport rear, they would have it... Its not that the front is bad on the new pic, to me it looks a bit like a Porsche Cayanne front end on a car...

Hell, look at the current GTI's rear end.....looks like they shrunk the Toureg and slapped it on the back.

Maybe we are seeing the next Corrado....although I would prefer another name to be used.

Yep, Cayenne and S2000, but it does look a little out of place.

AutoBild#1: hands down, Its got the closest shape to the original.

Edit: I noticed the first pic says "scirroco". Are they going to build both?

Scirroco and Corrado names are pretty much interchangeable, as the Corrado was the successor to the Scirroco. I really wouldnt care if VW chose either name, but I think they would have an easier time selling Corrados, since as a more recent model, it would still be an active model in some people's minds.

More news on the Corrado, now looks as though it will be the Scirocco...

After months of debate and internal struggle, Volkswagen has approved development and production of the 2009 Scirocco coupe, according to AutoWeek. The magazine claims there was an internal debate at VW over the design of the car, with one side wanting a dramatic sports coupe, and the other hoping to keep costs low with a more conservative offering. In the end, the car guys triumphed over the bean counters, the report says. The magazine has created a new computer rendering of the car, which is a slightly modified version of AutoWeb’s recent illustration of the car. We wouldn’t put too much faith in either drawing, but the general consensus is that VW has opted for a grille design similar to that of the EcoRacer Concept. Recent illustrations by Auto Motor und Sport suggested something similar, but also called for a less aggressive roofline — more true to the Scirocco name. In the end, it’s anyone’s guess exactly what design path VW will take — we’ll be patiently awaiting more details.

...Interesting how the photos have evolved. I'd be betting that the second photo there is closer to the production model that we will be seeing, given of course the face that has been placed uppon the Rabbit, Jetta, Passat, etc.

If they opted for the Rabbit nameplate, is it too late for the Fox?

I'll be watching this one closely. If this thing isn't pure sportscar, I will have lost faith entirely with post-mkII Volkswagens.

Oh, the Fox could still come here, as at one point in time the Fox was sold alongside the Rabbit and Jetta.

The only problem with the Fox however is that it may be too small for the US market, and VW may instead bring over the Polo. But then again, that may not happen either. The Rabbit is supposed to start at $14,995 USD MSRP with no options later this summer. The standard model will indeed include things such as power windows and locks, AM/FM/CD player, air conditioning, and the 2.5L I5 engine...

So then the question becomes, do they actually need a Polo at that price point for a car that is argueably better?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a hyper-affordable Fox or Polo come to the US, especially the Fox, as I used to have a 2nd generation model, but being as realistic as possible, I don't know if it will happen.

Back to the Scirocco:

If they can keep the prices low, they will sell plenty of them. My two friends at the two local VW dealers have said on many occasions that they cannot keep the GTI's on the lot as they are either being bought up by locals, or they have people driving in from Detroit and Chicago to pick them up. Hopefully the Scirocco can balance the GTI sales leap, possibly introduce the 1.6 TSI and 3.6 VR6, and still keep prices below $30,000 USD.
