JalopnikA lot of people think VW's upcoming Scirocco could use a little more oomph under the hood. The stock engines are rated from 122 HP to 200 HP, but this new version has a 300 HP version of the 2.0-liter TFSI inline-four. That's because the car has been race-prepped specifically for next month's 24-hour endurance race at the Nürburgring.
Yep, this little fastback will be in the same race as the Gumpert Apollo Hybrid and the Lexus LF-A. Sadly, there are currently no plans for a version of the race car to hit the streets, but who knows. After all, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 started life as a specially-built car for this same race just a couple years ago.
You answered your own question.more interesting to me than the GTI.
It would also get people like me who always thought the GTi was pretty meh interested in buying a VW.You answered your own question.
They knew it would cannibalize GTi sales,
Thing is, it's not vastly less practical anyway. Decent boot, and unlike many such coupes, the rear seats are usable by human beings.Never really understood the appeal of the Scirocco. It wasn't a bad looking car, but it wasn't really different enough from a 3-door Golf to make it stand out. I don't think it's improved looks trumped it's reduced practicality, unlike the similar differences between the A3 and TT.
Having said all that, they are by no means uncommon on our roads, so must have appealed to plenty.
