Not my first toy car, but a memorable one! Jaguar XJ220!

First car that got me inspired to love fast cars, was riding in my uncle's 68 firebird through the streets of brooklyn. Seeing tiresmoke rise.. the sound and smell drew me in.

I have a collection of over 30 1:18 scale model cars. Mostly Aussie muscle cars. :D I love cars ;)

Edit: Forgot to mention dad's former boss (no he wasn't sacked he retired) has I have no idea how many real cars. He has a Corvette Z06 which he imported from some place called America, used to have a Carrera Cup GT3, has a Targa Spec Monaro.. that's just a few he has so many.

Ahahahaa  I think I've heard of it, it's between Canada and Mexico right? :sly:

I see I'm not the only one who had an F40.

I was looking through my old toy cars with my nephew and I really remembered this one, mine is a bit more scratched up. The F40 happens to be one of my favorites to this day.

my grandfather owned a used car lot when my father was young so he had a different "new" car every other month, when I was young my father was drivinga 70's chevelle custom paint really loud. That car got me "into" cars but the general lee dukes car was my best toy car I had. then go karts.

I started off early. At around 4 I had a pretty good collection of matchbox cars. That got cleaned by our cleaner's son (who was also around my age). No wonder he was so friendly.

On my 9th birthday I got this:

From my neighbour/friend who happened to be French and into Rally (and Le Mans). After losing my matchbox cars I swore to not ever buy another model car until I saw the Lotus Esprit in "The Spy Who Loves Me".

My current and only toy/model car is the Godzilla:

I had hundreds of hot wheels cars, none that really stood out. Though it's not a toy, this did.

Greg Moore was my idol growing up. He's from my hometown, actually lived a block away from me, and wasn't much older than me. He joined the Champ Car circuit at a young age, and was really moving up quickly. Unfortunately, he died in a violent accident in the last race of the year on October 31st, 1999. I was watching the race live and saw the accident happen, and it made me cringe. Watching him race got me hooked on Champ Cars, and racing in general. From there, it turned into a passion for all automobiles. Greg is still missed to this day.

I remember how sad I was hearing the news that day. Thanks for a well written tribute.

This Trans-Am from Smokey and the Bandit. I watched this movie so much when i was little i wore out the VHS tape it was on :-). What a mean and fast looking/sounding car it is,even by todays standards it just looks tough!

And a 1968 Ford XT GT in candy apple red. A neighbour of mine when i was a kid had one of these,it was loud and whenever it would start on a weekend i would race around there and watch it warm up and leaving gently then the guy would nail it and wind it through the gears, you could hear it from blocks and blocks away :-). I`d wait for ages until he came back and locked away back in his garage!

And of course the Dukes of Hazzard Charger! I loved this show when i was a kid!

I remember me and my brother were at some aunt's house, and we had to sleep early and lost the race. We were shocked when we saw the crash. He could be a multiple champion if this crash never happened.

I agree. He was on his way to being a champion.

I also had a collection of scale models cars I built. Anything from a Porsche GT1 to a Budweiser Top Fuel car, NASCAR, WRC STi, Ferrari F50, Corvette Sting Ray, and many many more. I'm going to get back into building scale models again soon. I'll probably just buy what I like and build it. Would like to see if I can collect a full series of race cars.

I used to try and paint model cars way back in elementary school...

it resulted in a ruined table and though well assembled, horribly painted car(due to finger prints).

i might try it again one day...

i always loved cars as a art project XD, i used to draw them alot in first grade XD

My first PlayStation game was a nascar game, i was in love with ridge racer type 4 (R4), gran tourismo 1/2 and the game i ended up playing the most (my mom was short on cash at the time) was a game called gran tour racing(i had to google to remember the name).

i guess the majority of my car love is in art in gaming :P

i had a collection of toy cars too, but i was a very creative with playing with my toys :/. none survived...and i kinda burned my race track carpet...good times, good times.

I dont remember what it was.My whole life is about cars and was allways. The first thing i ever drawed was a bunch of"cars" i have it till today!(thx to my sister who keepd it for me) :D i was 1.5y old.

My most memorable toy was this orange, plastic Lamborghini Countach. I had video games, Legos, and a jungle gym, but that Countach stayed in my mind. It influenced my first favorite car, the Lamborghini Diablo. I drove it all the time in NFS III: HP. And that was the game that started my addiction to cars. I am here now, speaking to you, on a mere whim that my father had, that this little orange car would be fun for me. That one split second decision has defined me as a person. It's cemented the path I will take in life, and knowing my luck, how it ends too. Though my father passed years ago, I still think back and think of all of the innocuous decisions he made, the whims he felt, that have turned me from a potential shut-in to a knowledgeable, caring, but incredible manly person. Not very mature, but that comes with age, and I can only thank him, and the little car he bought me, that I'm here, as I am.

My first memory of liking cars had to do with a Dodge Viper which I'm slightly ashamed of as I don't rate them much. Next memory was Senna and then the Schumi era.

Edit: No toys. Maybe some farm equipment.

the audi le mans cars are what set me off, I have the r8, r10, r15, and all the variations of these I will post a picture later of my two favourite. I also have an enzo, porsche 911 gt1, bmw, a few BMWs and about 6 F1 cars.

I actually had a lot of toy cars but I think it was when my dad first got us a windows 95 PC that I truely became obsessed:

Sorry If this isn't what you guys meant to post. Theres some really good posts here :) Very reminiscent of childhood.

Yes i had go buy a new copy nfs2 because I've been playing it to much. And also I needed the "special edition" ;)
When I was 4 my dad gave me the 'police' version of the corgi range rover. Beautifull, I took it everywhere.

BMW M1 was the one than hooked me, think it was a silver matchbox, next one was a rover SD 1 which for some reason I bit the opening boot off....still got the chip in my front tooth from that made a square back for it out of candle wax so it looked like my dads scimiter (you couldn't get that for love nor money so I made my own)....I was about 10 at the time LOL

First were these (Guisval miniatures):

I so loved, and still do, the Ferrari F40 1/18 from Bburago. Also, I have the 1/24 kit from Tamiya which I enjoied to build until the last part!

The youngest car in this shot is older than most of you. The oldest is older than me.

Name them all and win the thread :D

(my Peugeot Quasar is in the loft)

That's awesome and hilarious, did you take that photo today? I couldn't name half of them but I'm pretty sure I had that tank...I may have to get mine from my mum's loft :P

They're light purple. I promise.

What's the van behind the RS200? It reminds me of the film Home Alone.

Also, i remember being quite fussy with toy cars. They only made it to my 'best of' car box if they were real branded 'Matchbox' cars, with a proper metal shell. Anything plastic, or with rubbish wheels, was never allowed into my collection.

I spot a Sierra XR4i, yellow/black, must have been 83/84. My mother has a picture of me chewing on one as a baby. I had good taste. Must have been 4 wheel drive too.
