That's really surprising because I have driven the R8 many times in the wet with only abs and it has been fantastic to drive. I think it really depends on the setup. I recommend putting the brake bias towards the front to reduce oversteer while braking.
I flicked TCS off for low gear corners and back on to cut wheelspin when it got to third gear. Noticed the 908 was very lairy, I think Seth was overdriving. A case off early brake, early turn in, and gently feather throttle for me.
Still annoyed I was last running prototype but to lead 50mins and be in with a shot for 90 in a way off pace car on my debut, I should be happy I suppose ;-)
Not over driving, 900+lb ft of torque with my 3 year old DS3 in the wet is what I would call it. Your car isn't off pace, it just isn't the fastest on the straight. The R8 isn't the fastest either, but it corners good.
I think trying turbo stage 3 would give you great top speed compared to the one you have now.
Just an observation .... the description of what aides can or cannot be used has never been posted. A PM to Dave asking for clarification was never answered so I just figured I'd go by whatever rooms settings were. The fact is however, that these settings have been different for every race and every practice session so far. Whoever set up the room just set them where they wanted apparently. (TC has been turned off in a couple sessions for example). Active steering had been allowed for the first two races for instance. Post #722 and post #724 contain conflicting information as an example.
My point here is that this should have been indicated in the OP and should be a constant for every practice session and race. Also I should add that during practice sessions, jonnyb suggested I bump up the HP on the R8 a couple times but this isn't reflected in the OP either so I'm not sure what setting I should use.
For what it's worth, I have practiced quite a bit and have only cracked the 2:20 mark once at 2:19.995 while all other laps have been 2:20's and above (and that was at 483HP as jonnyb suggested in a PM to me).
From my perspective, I would like to see "Heavy Damage" and lots of rain![]()
Can I be a resurve for the rest of the season?
Race report:
Terrible Quali, saw the rain and decided to go on intermediates for the start. This meant as people pitted, my disadvantage picking my way through GT (and a Les Combes GT pile up) was negated and I led by around 8-13 seconds. Had about 3 small spins in that time, but that Pescarolo was beautiful to drive.
Then came up on Seth vs Lout vs Me in hour 2, was good fun, apologies Lout for our scrape. Ended up falling off pace as track dried. Dave, it needs a power boost. 2:07's are the limit for this car. Anything diesel / turbo just rips me on a straight so bad its not funny. And @ Johnny, sorry for our crash, fatigue and pushing hard led to that. But I did get 14 laps I think out of tyres on last stint.
Providing specs get tweaked, I will be back at Fuji with this car, stuck to the ground like rails, tyres only gave way at 10%. Shame people were scared off and rage quit, but at same time dissapointed at 5th, when a podium was always in my grasp.
Long races with 100% wet track aren't much fun unless you go into them knowing that it will be a full-on "Wet Race". I was led to believe that there would be "changeable weather with a chance of rain".
Because the R8 was such a dog on the straights in all the previous sessions and I was about 4 to 5 seconds slower than everyone else, I resorted to running less and less wing each time I tried to pick up time. Adding 30 HP as suggested (443 - 473HP) only delivered about 3mph faster top end. With reduced downforce, the R8 was completely undriveable at anything over 20% wet track. I couldn't complete a lap without spinning at least 5 or 6 times. And by undriveable, I mean .....
1) At a couple slow corners, the car would do a slow spin no matter what gear, RPM or approach I took. It spun around slowly on every lap at the same two corners (even below 30 mph).
2) Every time I downshifted, the rears would lock and induce spinning. This occurred everywhere and in every gear. This really made the car impossible to drive.
3) There were times when the car just had a mind of it's own and it went where it wanted to no matter what inputs I proposed.
4) There were times when the car would get loose and try to spin going down the long straight at 100 mph with TC at 10. This was about as fast as the car would go with the TC cranked up in these conditions.
5) The car behaved the exact same way regardless of what tires were on. They all felt like slicks on a flooded track !
I've raced a couple 4 hour races at the Ring with full rain at 100% and didn't mind it at all. The GTR TC was easily adaptable to the conditions whereas the R8 was a complete brat !
Bottom line is that I had to wait out the rain in the pits and then get back in when the track started drying. The race was absolutely NO FUN like this and a complete waste of time. I was so much looking forward to this race, thinking that there would be strategy involved choosing tires to match the changing conditions but the settings were way off in my opinion. I wish there was someone out there who truly understands the settings for weather (I know I don't)
Please give the excrement du jour R8 to someone else now as I will not be participating in the next two races. We're off on our annual road trip next week and won't be back for over a month![]()
That was chaotic in the rain. I almost found myself laughing at how many times TDZDave spun in the wet. I never expected to finish ahead of a prototype. And yet, that's exactly what happened.
Also, just a suggestion, for track that have changeable weather, we might want to consider extending the time limit for the race so that we have a better chance of getting the full distance in. We won't have to worry about this until Le Mans, so we've got time to consider it. I'm not saying we should do it. It's just something to think about.
I tested it actually prior and it made 0.4 difference at the same HP. I reckon the amount of D/F I was running probably didn't help in dry, very much a wet setting perhaps on reflection.

Thats almost a half second. I ran 57/80 downforce and my top speed without draft was 309kmh braking as late as possible before turn 5. Try your car with turbo stage 3 and see the difference between speeds before turn 5.
The rear needed to be a little loose for me. I never run max rear downforce. Gives good turn in.
Hmm. 60/105 here, kept her glued to the ground in the wet though, had fun sliding through Pouhon.
2.4 hours is actually 2 hours 24 minutes. So is it 2 hours and 24 minutes or 2 hours and 4 minutes?
We want people to stay in the class they signed up to as people have different driving styles and with the close racing that happens, if people keep switching cars then you lose the understanding of what the other driver is going to do, also LMP is full now and also includes reserve drivers.I have several questions for the WEC stewards
1-Drivers must use a different car for each Rounds?
2-Can a driver move to another class, GTE to LMP and vice-versa?
2.4 hours is actually 2 hours 24 minutes. So is it 2 hours and 24 minutes or 2 hours and 4 minutes?
OP is udated with penalties and changes, The decisions on penalties are final, please do not bring the thread into disrepute over them, anyone who does will instantly be removed from the series, you do have the right to question them, but please do it via PM,
As for car regulations, All GTE cars are currently spec'd, no more changes will occur,
LMP, some cars are subject to change, due to them not being used by people earlier in the season,
welcome to the world endurance championship,
positions always availble
round 4, fuji gt, june 1st
how things work
room will open between 8:30pm gmt and 9pm gmt saturday evening, the room will be hosted by either myself tdzdave or memto89,
lmp and gte multiclass event, 8 cars per class, races would last around an hour and 15 minutes too an hour 30 minutes, with 2 endurance races, lasting around 2 hours 30 minutes,
room settings, after some issues with the changing dynamics of the room settings they will now be,
abs 1, (maximum)
tcs 3, (maximum)
driving line allowed,
these are not the mandatory regulations, these are the maximum regulations allowed,
qualifying, will be a 15 minute session followed by the race countdown timer for all circuits, except spa francorchamps and le mans, in which will have a 20 minute qualifying followed by a 5 minute break for you to sort your food, fluid and bathroom commitments for an endurance event,
also, the field will not be cleansed after qualifying, so if you are in an lmp car and have a horible run you cannot expect to be bumped up to the back of the lmp field, you will start where your qualifying time dictates,
laps will be worked out to around the 1 hour 10 minute mark according to the lmp pole time, for spa francorchamps and le mans the laps will be sorted to the lmp pole time to the value of 2 hours 30 minutes,
tires
soft tires only, apart from intermediates and wets where required,
the races, all races will have 1 full pace lap,
changes to start procedure,
i am making changes to the starting procedure as of the replay's i have viewed on my profile and of youtube of rolling start event's that being on the front row is almost a hinderance so the following procedure will be used from monza thoughout the season,
+) cars will roll at pace speed around the circuit as usual, (changes)
+) the leaders will slow pace to bunch the field up prior to the final turn of the warm up lap,
+) once the field is bunched the leaders will proceed through the final turn onto the front straight,
+) when the 2 lead cars are on the painted grid lines it is up to the pole winner to start the race, they can start the race from any point on the painted grid lines to the start line,
+) if they cross the start line and haven't gone then the race is green, their loss,
i'n summary, the pole winner dictactes the pace lap, at pace speed, they have to ensure the field is bunched up, (near as makes no difference as some drivers will tail back to ensure their own safety in turn 1, once the leader gets to the painted grid slots its their choice to go, if they get to the start line and haven't gone then the race will also go green,
(bare in mind that these may change race to race, so suit the track we are racing on, these will be released in the driver's briefing one week out from the event,)
overtaking and lapping,[/b] be patient, overtaking points will come, you will never win the race on lap 1,
lapping, gte cars will be expected to maintain their line, it is up to their discretion to get out of an lmp cars way, "removing" them from the circuit will result in a penalty,
this is a championship, points will only be awarded for top 5 only in each class, bonus points maybe awarded for, class pole position, class fastest lap, and class most laps led, and leading a lap at the start line,
points are in this order
1st) 5
2nd) 4
3rd) 3
4th) 2
5th) 1
1 point for pole and 1 for fastest lap of the race (each category)
double points will be awarded for the two endurance races, you must complete 90% to claim any points,
penalties will be dealt with accordingly per class steward, i tdzdave am the head steward, memto89 is the lmp steward and johnnyb is the gte steward,
2) if an lmp causes a gte car to spin or crash while lapping them, the lmp driver will either wait and allow the gte driver to retake their position and get up to race speed before retaking them, or have the time lost for the gte car +2 seconds added to the final result time,
if you are not sure if you have recieved a penalty or warning from an event, they will be published at the bottom of the op, they will be published by monday evening after the race, if we have yet to come to a decision it will be published as tbd,
corner cutting two wheels must remain on the black stuff at all times, (or kerbing) if it is deemed by us that you have been cutting corners you will be served a penalty pending how much it cut or how many times,
also, do not arrive in a "hybrid" or "hacked" vehicle, you will be removed on the spot! no exceptions!
the cars and drivers, there will only be one of each car,
these are always subject to change
in the event of a new driver/ 1 off appearance driver they may participate in any car not being used for that event,
all full time drivers will use the car they sign up in, unless they wish to drop back to gte or elevate up to lmp,
part time driver's are expected to use the vehicles they sign up for,
any reserve drivers willing to participate on short notice must have access to most cars listed,
vehicle rules, no additional turbo's or super chargers, anyone caught using a hacked/ hybrid car will be promtly removed! do not test my patient on this!
