"The spring air at Smokey Mountain is crisp and clean, punctuated by heady boutique of burnt rubber, gas fumes, oil, and sweat. The Insane Reality racing crew has worked feverishly on their sweet little Xsara rally car trying to push LDM in search of his goal. But it is not to be this time, all of the pieces don't quite come together. And yet the crews faces are flushed with joy as they have achieved far more than they had ever thought possible at this track. Smokey Mountain has been LDM's nemesis in the past, but for the moment they are enjoying the bit of success they have achieved.

Fittingly LDM takes one last lap into the fading sunset at Smokey Mountain as the crew begins to pack things up. Then he and the Insane Reality Racing crew slip quietly off into the night looking for another dirt track calling to be raced.":)

Here are what my "T" times are looking...
T1 8:057
T2 27:024
T3 47:904

I guess this is good for Division 3. Hopefully I can dust off my GT3 and get back into the racing.

Quick Question: How many are using steering wheels? I am using the PS2 controller and was wondering how much this hurts me during my time runs.

:D Happy trails to you...LDM and crew! (hope you don't beat us to bad):D 👍

Everybody seems to be searching trying to reach their goal...."There ain't no goal in these mountains!!":odd:

BNR34: I use the early Logitech driving force wheel....it's got some technical problems in the braking that may cause some loss of time. (not here at Smokey Mtns though)

You are not losing anything with the DS2 most likely.....it all comes down to personal preference. Some of the fastest drivers still use the DS2.....others are just as quick with a wheel. It's more about what suits you best.

:D

The anticipation is killing us.....:mischievous:

Okay, my splits are like,

7.338
24.603
43.556

only faster. :P

The lap in which those splits occurred, gave me hope and moved my goal higher.

Well, I sort of figured that's what your T's would look like....but of course, those are the old out-dated times, eh.

New goals...new times. This is going to get ugly.:banghead:

You are quite right. Two days ago I was flying, consistently running good lap times so I figure with a bit of work I can get to such and such a race time. Did not happen I began to get slower and slower until today. I was finally able to put the same kind of laps together that I was doing but I could not improve. I have a faster "clean" lap than what I am submitting but it does not live up to my standards so I am having to go with my second best lap.

BNR34,

I am using the DS2, digital pad. You are not at any sort of disadvantage except that analog is a bit faster than digital through the corners but it is a matter of what you are used to.

I have never learned to use the sticks and I have a nice wheel but no place to set it up easily so it just sits there.:(

Good Luck.:)

If it's faster it's better, no?
Clean is clean, or do you mean, "obviously clean".

I'm running into that psycho wall.
Improvements are coming at the rate of .01 per hour.
Actually, the biggest gains seem to come within 5laps of starting a session.
Nevertheless, there is no tomorrow.

I just realized my last session (Thursday's 7.778/25.051/44.474) was without oil change.
So I changed the oil, ran a few laps and dropped 1.5 seconds off TT, 7.487/24.510/43.554 with just over 3 hours of driving left. :D

Just got home from running around all day. I am giving myself 1 more hour of driving to tidy up and chop as much time as I can (if any within 1 hour)...Glad to see my T3 of 43.363 is holding up, I don't know if I can better that but I know I can hit the last corner better!

More in about 1 hour!

Right at the T3 marker I drifted wide and it looks like I rub the berm slightly there is a 1 mph wobble in the speedo. Because it is the berm it is hard to see. If it was a real rally race it would be inconsequential as it is berm and very, very slight. But I am picky and won't submit anything possibly controversial, well at least intentionally anyway.:)

Time submitted. I'm leaving .3 - .4 seconds out there for sure but I'm just not getting it.

See you all next week.

22 more laps, .002 improvement.

Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Time submitted.

I know I left at least .3 on the table, maybe more.

Onto next week....

If they're comparing against the r-l record, then I'm in the same boat. :D

Wish I had more time to drive this week...
Time sent with:
7.343/24.295/43.383

If only this were horseshoes or handgrenades.

.172 short.

I've probably driven the "little pile" over 400 miles.
And I'm still smilin'. :) see

Maybe I'll wake up early tomorrow and give it one more try.

Don't you just love it when all your best sectors come together in one lap:

7.531 24.903 44.253

And then don't you just hate it when you take a tenth or more off that lap with some really ugly sectors:

7.834 25.265 44.675 (submitted)

I know I left .4 on the track.

Results shortly. :mischievous:

Nice runs fellas & and of course, the resident lady of the races. ;) (sorry p. )

Isn't the deadline now?

Yes Lafe. I think ODP was jsut saying he may give the r-l record one more shot in the morning. ;)

edit/ Why do my fingers always spell just "jsut"? Must be the Captain Morgan typing for me...

yes sri! He helps me pilot my ship, especially when it comes to rally, where I have almost no practice. ;)
