Week 59... For lack of a Better Name

That's just the nature of a track with walls....it's part of the price of trying to go fast with NO margin of error.

I manage a half good pass every 15 laps or so...the latest:

Race Car Practice
T1=17.565
T2=46.871

I'm still needing to break an imaginary barrier before I can even think I'm in the running (meaning top ten finish)

I am "good" on rome II thanks to sough running a "purchasable car @ rome II" race. (forget the name)
High Rollers Showdown? :D

I've taken Yellow Bird out for a tour around here, and as is, have managed to dip into the 50 second range. I've tested the Lotus 350 but didn't feel good in it. I've got three more cars to test (one that I'm sure will do, one that I hope will do, and one that will likely do, but don't want to run).

SO that'll be for tomorrow night.

Till later,

wow.. into the 46's now eh Emp? maybe i shouldn't even submit a time this week just to save a bit of face!!!

Weak!

... I had put in a nice litte post about not giving up and showing character though the thick and thin of the weekly races... but then, I just said whatever.

Have fun with it if you can, hell, go run the mini like scuderia, but don't punk out.

Jk with ya.
All on you, and have fun with it.

btw, alta, thanks. :D
High rollers show down. If I remember, I beat bobkart's oreca run. :mischievous:
Too bad he ran a supra during the same race.

No track time today, since it was my occasional poker night. Played tight as a drum all night, winning only two hands in eight hours; a modest five stud lowball early (with a hidden pair of sixes, but a great bluffing board), and a fat "seven stud low-hole wild" late, where I tripped my wild card on the sixth card giving me an ace high straight flush to top four aces. :D My only two showdowns for the night!

Anyway, though I've "encountered" a great number of walls around Rome, I haven't found this nearly as irritating as last weeks race at SM II. I never found a consistent fast way around that first turn there. It was always throw the car in the air and hope to stick the landing. Most of the time, it was one wall or the other, or an 8.3, so restart and drive that tedious humpy straight again. And then when you got a good one going, odds were that you'd lose half a second in the last turn. And between those two, a lot of nebulous ways to lose time without even knowing it (if the ghost was off). At least here I feel like I've got a reasonable chance of taking any given turn without a wall hit or a substantial loss of time. I screw up plenty of places, but it's not the same two &#$% turns every time, and when I lose time, I know where and why.

So, one more session with the road car tomorrow, and then on to the racing machine!

ok i have some questions in general on powersliding. from my experience the fastest and best way to powerslide is to brake just before you want to turn and then right when you get to your turn in point turn and it will induce some powersliding. now im not sure if this is the correct/fastest way to do it so i was wondering if i could get some tips on this.

Edit: and also whats a good way to eliminate that slight understeer right at the end of the powerslide when the car suddenly grips and kinda jerks in an unexpected direction for me. i think it might be the asm/tcs but im running asm 0 and tcs 2 so im not sure if thats it or not.

Well, I usually start braking and downshift a gear or two (depending on the turn) which unsettles the rear end a bit and helps with turn in. I usually brake while turning in and set up my brake bias towards the rear to help slide the rear out a bit, but that can bite you in the ass if you're not used to it:lol:

As far as the understeer coming out, maybe you're sliding the car TOO far and this is making it worse though, hard to say. Maybe try going as wide and as smooth as possible so you don't have to turn as hard, or try not to slide as much:confused: 9 times out of 10 I'd say that sliding will slow you down more often than not, but that is open to debate of course.:P

Rome is a track that can easily reward a 3/4 throttle, as opposed to a full throttle approach. For instance, a brief let-off a the end of the back straight allows your car to be very stable and ease through that soft right turn. Hit the brakes much earlier than you would for that left as you start up the hill. 3/4 throttle through that section will mean you can skip the brakes and keep the car setteld through the upcoming right at the top of the hill.

I've always loved that section of track because there is so much speed to be carried through that in a smooth fashion.

I've not registered but can i still take part for fun?

In my 615bhp 300ZX i have

T1: 20.554
T2: 55.216

GoKents, if you say i can enter i'll send you a PM with the time i got and an .xps file of the replay.

EDIT: Im not really all that great at racing, drifting is my thing but im trying to get better again for GT4

Wow!
So much to say...

First, alta is right, 3/4 throttle on this track can be a real blessing when you learn to use it in the right spots. (like a certain sharp turn right before t2.) ;)

Second, oxygenuk,
Don't understand what to do.
Any car, race or road.
Pwr greater than or equal to 2.0
Rome II

Now go have fun with it. :D

eddieturner2002,
Actually...
If you want to run with us, you have gotta register.
If you want to ghost it, and not post about it, then fine, you don't need to do a thing.

But if you're gonna post about your runs and openly take part in the race, then you're gonna have to register.

You're either in or out. :mischievous:
I look forward to getting that registration soon. :D

As for me, nothing new here, but I did get an IM from P last night, so keep your fingers crossed in hopes that one more super racer doesn't show up. :D

Talk to you guys later today... off to coffee and some of my other morning activities.
Till Im done with that... cya. :D

My understanding, is that powersliding is overPOWERing the rear wheels SLIDING them out on turn exit, or mid turn, if you happen to overpower the wheels at that point.

Sliding from the time you are on the brakes is race drifting (opposed to SHOW drifting, which is obviously a slower method for turning) adn not powersliding.

This is at least the way I learnt it from all the reading I have done.

thanks for the tips so far. ill have to give this a shot and see if maybe i shouldnt be trying to slide around so many corners.

I don't punk out, not in GT. I don't care what the challenge is, or who's my opponent, I'll put in a good showing, just like last week ;)

Good, lol.

Didn't mean to push too hard. ;)
Just trying to keep the racer participation up.

Yeah, don't mind me too much with post like that one. Have fun with the race is all I ask.

*jumps into the fray*

No secrets here...I'm running the GT40 Race and Road car.

After the first session in each:

GT40 Race
18.4/49.4

GT40 Road
18.8/49.8

I'm sure there are better choices, but these two are fairly similar, so jumping back and forth between the two doesn't take too much re-adjustment.

Obviously, the Race is the "grippier" of the two while the Road needs to be drifted a bit to make some of the turns at speed.

Plus, I love the sound of these cars...among my favorites. ;)

Doesn't it just kill you to have to run it with the oil light on? I had to change cars 'cos I felt I should treat it with more respect.

Ok,i am new to this and before i start racing i just want to make sure i understand this correctly.
I have to divide the car's weight by 2 and the result is my max HP?If this is incorrect please fill me in on this.

That's right.

If you go to your car in "My Garage", you can go to the stats screen to read it's current PWR. As long as that number is over 2.000, you're fine.

I'll try to get that Evo registration to you soon. But is there a thread to see current weekly member's times.

Plus i thought i'd just add that the 3000GT is such a handful around Rome. 👎

EDIT: Just realised that being a non-registered member i cant request times. :( lol

Seconds sessions with the GT40 Road and Race...

I'm actually 0.1s slower in the Road through T1 and T2, but knocked nearly .7 seconds off my total lap...gotta nail those first two sectors.

In the Race down to 18.1 in T1 and 48.7 in T2, and 1.1 second overall improvement.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I´m out again this week. I don´t have a clean save and I haven´t had time to race really this week. :( But all you others have fun and good luck, see you next week!

Oh lord...

:grumpy:

I am in a bad situation now.

Anyone remember a few months back when I was running a ds1 controller due to my broken ds2?

Guess who is back on the ds1 train?

:irked:

I just bought my ds2 less than 6 months ago.

I have not mistreated it in anyway, it has never had anything odd happen to it. No spilled drinks, no miss placed steps, no throwing or bending... it is in perfect shape....
but
For some reason, it is seriously screwed up.
It is basically pushing buttons for me.

Mid turn it will straighten out hard and faster than any time I try to straighten out the car.
Mid run it will change the view when I don't press the button. (this is during a lap, not inbetween laps.
Mid run it will change the gears when I don't press the button.

Basically the damn thing is sending the inputs of button presses that are not occuring.

I am super pissed about this because the ds1 from my ps1 is still in perfect shape, but this clear-blue p.o.s. is already screwed up after less than 6 months and with nothing done to it.

Damnit

Now my current race car lap will have to do. (even though another .5 could come out of the final time.) And my current road lap... haven't got anything besides a 52.??? in a shelby cobra, and a low 49 in the r390gt1 road car.

So damn damn damn...

Im gonna go and see if the game shop will help me out, but I doubt it, and I don't have a reciept or a warranty, so....
Oh man Im pissed about this.

Anyway, you guys have fun with the rest of the week.
and remember.
Driver, lap time, division, car/cars should all be included in your time submissions this week.
btw, does anyone have any good ideas about how I should format results?
Im thinking about doing a 2 column list in ms word and then taking a screen shot of that, then posting that image...

But anything will do, so give me ideas about how to format the results if you guys are creative like that.

Thanks:D

Im registered now, Yipppeee.

But i cant take part in this comp now because im off on holiday tomorrow morning till next Friday. So, roll on Week 60.
