Mich,
I'm in UB's boat.

Man, I think I ran down to 1'00.4 or so, but whoa that's fast.

Lots of shifting, lots of throttle control.

Hard enough for me, but I did get one thing right... the transmission.
Ran it down to a 3.900 fd on the lowest auto slider setting. Right now I'm almost topping out on the start/finish stretch with really quick gears through everything (although never going into 1st).

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. :D
Later.

btw, Go Pistons!
;)

The one thing that I 've learned is that in Rally, too many shift points = slow time.
Try and set up your trans with minimal shift points.

Nice hint at what to do with-out really telling them what to do GT3mich. :P

What he's tryin to tell ya is to lug dat biatch so it don't spin da tires. That or he is doing something that works w/o knowing exactly why it's working.....LOL.

I now see myself falling back to the last spot on the finishing roster again.... :(

When it comes to Rally cars, I think I know what I'm doing.

Why do you shift less to go faster then?

I was simply pointing out to them why you shift less.

Take it easy and don't shift your pants......LOL. You're still ahead of me.....barely. :P

(I'm jokin about, please don't take any comments too seriously)

Shifting less can often lead to faster times, especially in a hot lap scenario.

Since the power band on the car is larger enough to not need all 6 gears. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lancer has a large enough power band to manage with 4 gears.

I was running some tonight... just cause I can tolerate the Maze...

Couldn't get anythign clean, but was on a blistering (for me in rally) lap:
32.189
59.4xx
1'21.8xx

:) And I have little to no idea what to do with settings for rally purposes.

After a couple hours I have completed a lap with a high 1'02 as a t2. I think I have been as low as 1'01.1 there.

Just for the record...

Take a look at my 5 speed run at laguna seca and I think you will recognize that I am not totally new to the idea of less gears creating faster times. ;)

However, I was wondering about this car combo... I think it's on the longer straights where I start to wonder if 5 is the way to go with this track.

Gonna go try it now and I will let you all know about my t times when I get back.
Thanks for the advice. 👍
Later. :D

edit:
:D
Thanks again mich. 👍
With the 5 speed set up without fine tuning I almost instantly took plenty of time off.
Ran to 59.4 then lost time to end with 1'21.1, only to go and have a bad finish.

That road transition kills me every time.

Any hints on that one?
;)

Thanks again...
Later. :D

Exactly. It is because a car has enough torque to pull it along even when it is in less than optimium hp rpm range. This it what makes a race car engine easy or not easy to drive. Having ample torque to pull your car out of a turn makes it easier to drive because you have to worry less about tire spin. Torque is what's moving it forward, not hp. If you use the torque, you can accelerate out of a turn sooner because it is less likely to spin the tires. If you accelerate sooner, your lap will be faster.

On a rally car it is even more important as peaky hp likes to spin tires, but the raw torque will just chug you along without as much wheelspin. The secret here, or any type of racing for that matter, is to carry as much speed as possible while at the same time spinning the tires as little as possible. Pretend you are driving on snow or ice and try not to spin the tires very much. I guarantee your time will improve if you are revving it to redline in every gear. If you are spinning your tires, you are going no where fast. Just ask John Force, Michael Schumacher or Colin McRae(sp?).

I'll switch to manual transmission (yes, I usually run auto :embarrassed: ) which will allow me to lug the car like I'm describing and my times should improve quite a bit. Maybe not to GT3mich's times as he has much more experience and knowledge of running these paticular cars on these paticular tracks on this game than I could probably ever hope for, but I should be within a reasonable distance of him just knowing the basic idea of what I'm supposed to be doing.

I'll go run for an hour or 2 and report back with my T times.

TML: Nice run for a "non" rally guy. 👍

GoKents: Sorry, but I'm not buying the less gears is faster at the Week 68 Laguna Seca run. Xtreme's time is 3 tenths faster, the car isn't broken in and he uses all the gears (except 1st gear). There might be a decent arguement for it here this week, but I'll take more gear choices (*edit- closer gear ratios) any day.

Not done any laps yet. This is the prize car from Rally of Alps II yeah? Also, why does it show this car as having T5's fitted and not dirt tyres, or am I missing something here?

With 5 gears, I got:
T1 33.339
T2 1'01.6xx
T3 1'24.2xx

I'm having some trouble keeping the car from going wide into the walls. What are you guys using for the VCD, mine is at 22??

I'm starting to wonder how I got gold on that R8 license test.

Giving this a go. Not quite sure whether I dare touch any settings other than switching off TCS and ASM :dopey:

T1: 0:33.410
T2: 1:01.940
T3: 1:25.082

After getting somewhat frustrated over this car, and my complete lack of control over it, I went hunting for clues on how to set this car up. There is indeed little point in just taking a complete setup (one drivers pleasure is anothers' nightmare and all that), but I found your website Famine, and your tuning guide. Ruddy Bonzer Mate, it has helped me no end take this beast of a motor and actually start to control it -- THANKS FOR SHARING, I really appreciate it. I'm now a whopping 1.913 seconds faster overall with more to come with additional practise. STUPENDOUS.

T1: 0:33.306
T2: 1:01.056
T3: 1:23.836

Decided to have a go at this. Times still too slow to post :). Glad to see that you're running, Neilsg; I remember us being close competitors in the faqs viper series.

Hey Tuff, it has been long since discoverd that in a HOT LAP situation, the fastest thing to do is use as little gears as possible. I would imagine that the corvette was doing just fine on 4 gears, since it has a wide power band, and lots of torque. Everytime you shift, you are losing time, so if you are constantly shifting, you are losing time, yes, even in this game. For instance, most of my 400m records are done with 3 or 4 gears, the cars simply dont need the 5th and 6th gear until the 1000m.

I'm out, I just remembered after half a lap the no wall touch rule destroys everything I ever knew about rally racing, hopfuly we will get a race that is actually fun soon, nearly wrecked my PS2 again today.

would probably have the definitive answer but I "thinK' all Rallye Rides "Show" as having T-5s but internal programming "Allows" them to run in the Dirt. Same thing when you "BUY' Dirt Tyres for any ride that will accept them. You're then "Allowed" to run Rallyes. Hope this makes sense?!?!...UB57 :D

Hi Banjobear.

Long time no see. Where you've been hiding?

Yeah, the never ending Bad Habits Viper Tourney. My debut in OLR'ing. After that you suggested the planet or the numbers. I chose the planet, because of the weeklies and the brilliant division concept. Great to be kicking some butt, even though I'm terrible slow. Been racing here regular since. :D
We were close at the time, but as far as I remember, I owe you some beating. ;)

At the Maze I don't have a clean lap yet. But i got time for a solid session tonight, so expectations is still high.

So I got home from work at 1am last night (no laps), am training tonight with my training buddy and won't be home unitl midnight at least and leave for Indy at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon until Monday night....in between all that I need to deliver some stuff on a major project I am on.

So...looks like no laps for me in this race. Have fun guys, the Maze is a beast.

My schedule tones down ALOT beginning next week so I'll be back them looking for a repeat Div 2 win....

:-)

Think I'll pack in for today before I wear my DS2 buttons out. Reckon I can squeeze another half second off my overall time.

Couldn't resist another blow... this one might be the one.

i'm waiting to see ron come in and run his one lap for the 2 second victory. surely in the name of drama, he will wait till the last day and be like "just had a quick go - (2.328 seconds better than 2nd place) basta.

Its been a few months since my computer would allow me to access the boards. Since the change, apparantly I can load these pages again.

I've been having lot of computer problems and not much time for GT. My wheel has been in its box for over two months now. :-/

If possiable, I'll try to get back involved this week as I do like the combination.

Really? Wow... I'm all cheered up now. :D

1'00.7 - but of course you're now ahead of that. Rats!

Can we just run any of the Evolution VII's? I don't like adding any parts to any of the Rally cars.

It's just a stage 2 turbo... That's IT.

I'm starting to get some clean laps. Best till now:
