You should already have it. Check your garage or delivery room.

As for the lag, I my experience, it takes just one bad connection to bring the room to a crawl. I usually restrict my series to North America only. The host should monitor each driver on the track and anyone that appears laggy should be booted...with no hard feelings.
I've raced with people from all over the globe without issue on several occasions. Including some here in this series, So I can't blame location whatsoever for the issues.

My bad. He was definitely laggy though, even in free run. Maybe it wasn't gravy then? There was someone with a Great Britain flag. I assumed they were actually located there.
If R1600Turbo didn't see him lagging, and you did, the problem was on your end, I must say.

I'm really heading down the thought path that PD tried to change the way lag is handled, so rather then drive in an active war zone (cars swerving erratically) when lag occurs, this happens.
I can't make the race tonight, but I'll bet if you limit the count to 12 it will work better, for a temp fix anyway.

Perhaps it is related to versions of the PS3 which run different clock chips or something? If you get one guy with an older PS3 in a room it could cause problems. I dunno, just trying to come up with something other than latency being the issue.

For the record, I have the old PS3 and I had the issue yesterday and most people can't join my rooms. I'm almost certain the latter is a hardware issue so maybe you're onto something.

Anyways, I'll be online around 4pm PST for more practice. I might not like this car but I'm going to find a way to drive it.

I have an old PS3 too though.
Nobody was lagging for me at all.
Yeah, I'm assuming if he saw someone lagging, it was him having a download lag.

Download lag = you see others jumping.
Upload lag = others see you jumping.

If you look at the hours between 8-10PM you'll see how much bandwidth GT5 was using. I'm confident that I was the only one accessing the network and it works out to roughly 30-40KB/sec up and down. I have my PS3 setup to allow incoming connections via UPnP and as well as to receive the highest amount of throughput with QoS. My downstream is capable of constant 1.5MB/sec and up ~ 700KB/sec. I'm pretty confident it's not my issue.

Download lag implies upstream from other client or clients you're connected to being saturated in a mesh topology, which is what we used as R1600Turbo wasn't a fixed host.

So what about Aliens last night? Every time I reset the track, everybody would finish loading about the same time, but he would take another ~5 seconds or so. He was the only one that I noticed doing that.

Have they released the servers from Prologue yet?

Also, for everyone that raced last night, would you be opposed to skipping qualifying and lining up based on the qualifying order from last night?

I fee like I had a "no grip" glitch and that was when I left the room. Came back and it was better but still bad.
When we got down to 12 or so people I got full grip back, that was in race 1 after the cancellation.
I know I can do a faster lap, but the faster drivers were in front of me so it's not like anything would change.

Sorry, I don't remember the load times...
Prostrho had the only "real lag" on track for me.
I think everyone said I was lagging when I got near your car RT in race 2. I couldn't see you so I can't comment.

Is the race going on tonight? Open slot? I spaced it last night.

Maybe. Right now I'm limiting it to those that showed up last night. A few can't make it, but that works out because we're going to try and do this with fewer people in the room to help with the issue we're having.

I'm just speculating here as I'm not 100% sure how the GT5 network works specifically but I would assume that with non-fixed host rooms where everyone connects to everyone as peers maybe there was someone in between you and he that was not allowing incoming connections due to misconfiguration so it wasn't a full mesh therefore increasing latency for him or complicating his route to you.

I saw him lagging as well at various times which leads me to believe his upstream was saturated for one reason or another.

It could also be RT missed the lag times, if he only lagged sometimes.

You always have to download other cars positions, no matter the room setup, you have to download the inputs of other players so your PS3 knows where to show them on the track, etc.
Room setup just dictates who you download the information from, I believe.

Aliens has had some minor issues much like what you describe, and some DC trouble, but I don't think I've seen him lag seriously at any point.

I am starting to believe our internet issues are hardware related, I have a test to make later to see if I'm right, I'll of course let you guys know what I find.

You downloading something is the same thing as someone else uploading to you except the upstream determines the quality of the link in terms of throughput. Most of us have asynchronous down and upstream (15mb/5mb in my case) so there is not as much bandwidth I have to offer compared to what I can receive. If that bandwidth is limited even further or blocked altogether from some peers then I would think GT5 would force other peers in the room to extrapolate the information from those that have a "better" link to the afflicted peer, increasing latency.

Again, I'm speculating as to how GT5 network services work but this has to be close to what is happening when someone lags.

Yeah that sounds good. Even though the quali feel wasn't great for me, I thought quali was pretty much a level playing and Maverick earned is .05 pole over me and TNJF :) I got balked not once, but twice by slower drivers on laps where I was greater than a tenth up on the 1st and 2nd sectors. Oh well, **** happens. But losing all grip in T1 and going back to 9th because of lag, THAT sucks. Started in the top 2 is just as good as pole anyway, since I suspect the top 4 or 5 will be locked in draft for the whole race anyway (assuming zero lag.)

Good times. 👍

The room doesn't open until 9 EST, and racing will probably start ~15 minutes after that, so probably not.

thats right, i also noticed that last night, but as CSL says i havent been reported as a laggy player, so i think thats fine.....in one way.

Count me in for tonight. Unless I decide that Im not in the mood to race:rolleyes:

I'm actually limiting it to those that were racing last night, unless we have open spots. I will post in here 5 minutes before the race starts to let everyone know if there is space.
