Challenges for the week complete. With the changes in the update, several cars need tweaks to their previous configs to meet the PP limits. All completed on Hard, except the F3500 challenge. Honestly, with the AI cars behaving like it was stock car racing rather than Open-wheel, I decided to quit while ahead.
No wonder some drivers in Sport mode think dive-bombing is acceptable, when the AI cars do so regularly. 🙄

Thought the F1 race was horrible.

Found that on softs right front gets a lot of wear if you do the last corner flat out, so on to mediums, which hardly wear at all.
On normal difficulty I got pitched in to spins/barriers by the AI who are all over the place.

Don't think much of the car to be honest, on the right-left before the tunnel it wallows about in understeer, don't even think about touching a kerb here, traction is awful. Numerous times I attempted a different line to pass cars, so for example, go in deep then get on throttle to pull the car out and get passed - doesn't work, nose pushes wide, you lose traction - next lap you use the AI line, yet they amange to go deep with no issue... eugh.

On the approach to the last corner the car is very snappy, found it up on the kerb/grass more than once, had to reduce controller sensitivity.

Having got bored of being taken out by AI I dropped to easy difficulty - in the lead on lap three, which then made for a boring 12 laps just circling to get to the end. Slip stream makes all the difference

I presume its a number of things adding up here, but I won't be rushing back to the car and its probably the worst weekly race I've done.

Sees all the posts above with people winning the F1 race by 0.5 seconds or less...

I think I had a bigger gap, Racing softs, minimum aero, increase top speed by 20/30. (I did have racing gearbox from the tuning shop along side racing exhaust, no real difference but just in case).

A cheeky wallride on turn 2 and flat out for the last corner and it should be ok.

I'm sure others ran the race differently but at least this worked for me.

The F1 race is difficult..

No chance on the mediums as you lose too much time around the esses about half way through the lap.

Tried softs plus a new gearbox tuned to 360kph and 2 notches of traction control but could only manage 7th.

I was placed nicely in 4th at one point and just went a bit too aggressive on tyre management and lost the slipstream from the front pack. Then because my tyres were gone I lost a few positions by the end.

Definitely going to be a fine balance between pushing to get to the front pack but also leaving enough tyre to have an enough to fight at the end.
Beat it with medium tires … Caught P1 lap 11 and took it home completely stock.

If I happen to have time to do all five events, here were my picks:

European Sunday Cup 400: Mini Cooper S '05
Japanese Clubman Cup 550: Honda S800*
WTC 600: Honda S800*
Porsche Cup: Porsche 911 (991) GT3 RS
Special Event: Gran Turismo F3500-A

* = Swapped!

More specifically, for the WTC 600 round, if I can't get the swapped S800 as close as I'd like to 600 PP, then I'll alternatively use an Aston Martin Vantage DB11 instead. In which case, I'll put it on either Sport Mediums or Sport Softs - whichever puts it over the 600 PP threshold - then tinker with the ballast and power limiter accordingly. But otherwise, I plan to leave the DB11 entirely stock.

Then, for the Porsche Cup, simply putting that car on Sport Softs should be enough, as far as the 650 PP limit goes.

Managed to beat the final race on Hard. Stock tune with RS and the gearing set to 370. I must admit, I got lucky with the lead group containing 6th through to 1st so once I passed them, I could hold them all off, while still doing 1.55s

This race was tough, I hope we get more races with these cars, hopefully a proper length event around a more complex track.

I won the F3500-A event, by dropping the difficulty from Hard to Normal. And I never do that.

Almost never.

Praiano tune, RS tyres, my fastest lap was in the 54s. Able to take time out of the AI cars through Turn 2, struggled to take the 3-4-5 esses consistently. Tried not to deviate from my line if there were other cars around me, I hear those guys are brutal... No problems with tyre wear for me either, thankfully.

Won just barely, some 'inventive weaving' helped in the run to the line. 🤣

Don’t you have to add the racing transmission to set the gearing to 370? That’s the only thing you changed?

I got 1st place in the F3500 One Make on hard difficulty. Many, many times. Even one clean race bonus :boggled:

Do not ask how many times I've run this in the last 48 hours...

Did you know that this race has penalties? 👀

The penalty zone is somewhere around the final corner. 99% of the time, you don't need to worry. I only got it in my early runs when I was struggling and wanted to toss my controller out the window

On hard difficulty, the race is full of rubberbanding nonsense with the AI just deciding to go faster after lap 12. The whole thing is scripted for the player to lose time to the AI in the S bends, then fight them off in the final corner for a photo finish. Every. Time.

My Setup

I drive this like a 5-speed with a bonus gear. I only use 6 for drafting / overtaking. Can probably shorten the gears more for more efficient driving. I drive Group C cars too much

See my suffering. You can use this as reference for braking points and racing lines.

Tips
- Draft the AI Cheaters

One of your few advantages here. It's also why a good gear setup is important. You need to get very, very close before breaking the draft to pass. You seem to lose A LOT of momentum when you try to overtake. Maybe the AI just finds an extra 50hp when they see you nearby

- Low Downforce recommended.
You will need some downforce for the fast left before the S bends. And downforce definitely helps your entry into the mentioned S bends. Also, slightly higher downforce will make the final corner less annoying to flat out.

- Racing Mediums or Racing Softs recommended.
Racing Softs are the fastest and will help immensely getting you into the lead in the first half of the race, and when you need to defend in the S bends

- Racing Softs are OK even for aggressive drivers on controller.
My tires were 75% gone around the lap 14. I felt the tires were worn out, but I still had enough grip to run times similar to or faster than my medium tire builds

- Don't let the AI cheaters draft you
When you are in the lead exiting the final corner, move over to the far left of the track and stay there until you need to set up for the fast left before the S bends

- Final Corner is Critical
The AI will cheat to make this a close race. They dive in much faster than you, then brake hard at the exit (but still catch up to you down the straightaway anyway  ). Always take the high line and abuse the banking.

Be careful drafting AI in this corner. You go faster, but it messes with your aero. Be ready to lift and modulate the throttle slightly, lest you get sucked into the wall.

NOTES
- Are the AI running low downforce configurations?
Sure. When they need to run away from you / catch up to you.

- Are the AI running high downforce configurations?
Always!! Especially when they need to out brake and out corner you in the S bends

FINAL THOUGHTS - Rant
PD:
The best driving experience is balancing a car within the tiniest window! Get more skill and you will learn to love it. And remember 98% throttle...
Me: I know what I need to do to drive this car properly. I've done that. I won. And I had no fun. The car is still hot garbage.

After this race and the time trial, just... no. When the weeklies are over, I discard this car from my garage - I don't care about the credits.

I will now take a much needed break. When I come back, I'm going to have a blast messing around with the other challenges.
