On topic, I started this thread in the hopes of being enlightened on a topic that I was divided on,.... funny how in 4 pages, I havent leared a think other than how to properly distinguish an annual house hold income.

Good attitude - I participate by giving my own input in a free discussion and you decide to disregard it. Up until now, I always viewed discussions with you and every other member on this forum as objectively as possible - after all, it's never personal. I have now made four comments on a topic which you have gone out of your way to not only disregard but respond to with an insult, twice to yourself, but usally personal to me. I've asked you before and I'll ask you again - STOP IT. My words mean what they say. You can take them at face value. I don't want to nor care to get you. Quit looking for hidden meanings in everything I say - Disagreements are just that, and I'm certainly not going to stop talking just because you're the one posting something that I question or agree with (such as the Israeli suicide bombers or the household income, which you yourself admit, you learned from me even though you don't care what I say). So let this personal crap come to a rest - I did quite some time ago.

I'm certainly not going to stop talking just because you're the one posting something that I question or agree with (such as the Israeli suicide bombers or the household income, which you yourself admit, you learned from me even though you don't care what I say).
Criticising an opinion is a natural part of human life. If you don't like me questioning what you have to say, then you need to grow up. Also, you need to stop viewing discussions in terms of black and white. There's often gray matter in between - there's usually never just a 'right' and 'wrong.'

RER, this is a hard attitude for people to overcome. Try taking a step away here for a minute. Don't back down, just give it a rest. Come back into this fresh and ready to use your brain, not your cojones. That will earn you some respect.

Danoff, but if we get rid of welfare, what will people do that aren't as fortunate as us? Or people trying to get through college, like Gil? We can't rely on the Salvation Army all the time, that's a charitable organization and doesn't have the resources to aide as many people as it would then. I know there are other organizations, but unless there is one strong one that works well, I don't see our societies getting any better.

Does anyone posting actually know anything about welfare benifits ? I looked into whats available to a family of 4 with no wage earner(s) . This is just PA. 330.00 food stamps and cash 380.00 per month. Medical (hmo)
and assistance on your utilities gas and electric based on useage that works out to about a 25 % discount or subsidy. The main wage earner to receive this, must within two weeks of applying register for job training and show up once a week for training or job placement. No shows are denied benifits and on the third strike are droped from the rolls. You are entitled to this for 5 years in your LIFE and its cumulative. Now how many of you are ready to run right out and sign up ? BTW if you can prove that you are in someway disabled they will wave your weekly job search or training requirement. Other than that you can apply for different programs for further assistance but they are limited. If you own a home and can't pay the mortgage tough . Sell or go to sheriffs sale. More is available through the PA Dept of Public Welfare. Whats it like in other states ?

Sign me up Then again, I'm self reliant and have no dependants,.... 95 bucks a week + 75 a week for food eh? I like the 5 year rule,. that should be enough time for anyone to find a job

Let's assume that what ledhed says is typical in most states and that there aren't any loopholes in the system. Now, it doesn't sound like too much to ask right? I mean, that's pretty stringent and not much money is given out right?
How much money is tied up in government jobs necesssary to support this carefully orchestrated system all over the country? The overhead on a system like this must be tremendous.
