I had some ground venison so I decided to make some chili. I went to store and found this.

What the hell!

I ended up making hamburger stew. It's good, but not chili good.
And little did you know the homemade recipe for 2-alarm chili mix was just a click away. in my cooking thread.

Save your money.

Shop Smart. Shop S-Mart.

Dude, you need chili mix to make chili? What kind of a Texan are you?
I thought I might catch hell for that. That kit has all the seasonings you need. It really does make great chili. It even has corn masa to thicken it up at the end.

I really don't make chili often enough to justify buying all of those ingredients.

Here is a pic from the last time I made it.

A kitchen without those ingredients is not a kitchen.

Those ingredients can also be made to make taco seasoning, steak seasoning, any kind of grilling seasoning, and basically anything you want to give a southwest flare to. Masa is the only odd one out, but you can use it to make corn tortillas.

But to each their own.

Tonight my wife decided to pick up from Wendy's. That limits what I can get, so it was a side salad that I added oil and vinegar to and a baked potato that I added low sodium chili and cheese to.

The side of the potato collapsed and spilled the chili and cheese out on to the plate.

Braised beef on horseradish mashed potatoes and vegetables. Sadly the Mai Tai wasn't as good as last nights.

They were excellent, but more sweet than spicy. Hence the added pepperoncinis.

Breakfast was a banana. Don't know about dinner. Perhaps another Italian sammich. Big Booger never eats dinner here anymore. Little Booger usually eats after getting home from school. Dinners are becoming a rarity here.

Sweet pickles are my favourite with bread and butter, and I guess my eyes saw sweet instead of spicy. Corn beef on rye calls for spicy pickles, though.

Just finished this - chocolate cake and hot chocolate.

Lunch was a loco moco - white rice topped with a hamburger patty, fried egg and brown gravy. Quite an interesting mix.

Forgot to add this last night. Dinner was pork chops with green beans. Tonight was just salad.

I ate one pound of bacon last night. 18 pieces of goodness. i have a problem

But not just any bacon. A very special corn cob smoked bacon from Vermont. Thank you Dakin Farms for over a century of making awesome grub!

Sauteed, lemon-drenched kale and curried chicken sprawled on a steaming bed of basmati.
All this talk of basmati brought it on I guess.
Damn subliminal seduction.

Now - on to the Valentine's Day dinner. More chocolates in the mix hopefully.

GF and I couldn't be together tonight, so we had Valentine's yesterday. Problem was, the reservations were made for today and had to cancel. Last minute plans thanks to her pa.

So, we wanted to go to Tacos el Paisa again, but we waited too late. They closed at 6PM. So, the only thing that looked good that was nearby was In 'N' Out. This gal is a keeper, IMO!

Had a Double Double Animal Style and Animal Fries. Dessert was Red Velvet Valentine's cake. Sorry, no pics. Might have one later when I have another slice today.

Brunch today was a banana.

The withdrawals do suck indeed. And not sleeping right. And the shakes and sweats. Watched Leaving Las Vegas the other night and was like, dang, I'm a serious lightweight! And wow is that a depressing movie.

Staying in tune with the thread, I had a few beers and a hard boiled egg and a Thomas English Muffin for brunch. Cheap hot sawsed em up. Sorry no close up pictures of my egg, or muffin.

So I just found out about Nicko McBrain's restaurant Rock n Roll Ribs. It's right next to the house of a family friend. Apparently it's got some really amazing bbq. I'm gonna go take on their "The Beast" platter:

They also have an interesting hot dog:

It's huge, wrapped in bacon, and stuffed with pepper jack cheese lol.

Valentine's Day meal at home this year, so....

Starter: Thai-style fish cakes with salad
Main: Fillet beef wellington, steamed vegetables and roasted veg
Desert: Raspberry and white chocolate hearts
Afters: 3 chocolate hearts
And to drink: bottle of cava.

Dinner last night (and lunch today) was gyros.

Thawed some chicken drumsticks for dinner but not sure what I'm going to do with them.
