What are your thoughts on Special Stage Route 7?

If I'm honest I think it was a complete waste of time when there's a lack of quality tracks in GT5. I can remember playing Tokyo highway battle on my dreamcast and this track is along those lines but nowhere near as good. If it had traffic to avoid then....:)

-> In my most honest opinion, I'm torn:

One Side
- A welcome addition to Gran Turismo.
- Wangan Highway fans delight.
- For the first time, a real highway racing track.
- It gives a different nostalgia to GT5.
- (Somewhat) connected to a couple of PD's original tracks, the SSR5/CSR5 '10s.
- A great track for Photomode players.
- A good place to meet up and have fun.

:)

The Other Side
- Why this!? Why not bring back SSR11 (original) or feature Spa (real) instead!!!!
- Boring, borING, BORING!!!!
- Pointless drag racing (online) rooms!
- Another way of bulking up the game!
- Why no pit lane?
- Not connected to CSR5/SSR5 '10s.
- A total waste of time!

:indiff:

It would be cool if they made it have complex layouts on each side of the road, with barriers to mark out a track to follow, to make it have big straights and narrow pieces using the lanes available.

But no, they didn't do that :grumpy:

Does anyone else think a "Tokyo highway Battle" style mode in GT5 would be awesome?

lol, SSR7 was MEANT to have those, but sadly, the whole highway battle experience is quite incomplete. :indiff:

GT'S BiG FaN
Extremly fun when ou have your friends playing with you , drafting & challenging their cars
Its just fun

Yup! I love this track I don't play it a lot but when I play it with my boys its a blast. It's real fun when the cars are closely match.

I don't like or dislike it, I just don't see the point of it at all. I can't understand how PD can put effort into making this track instead of adding both the GT1 and GT3 versions of SSR11 instead.

All I wish is that they would of used it in some a spec races, that or hopefully put it in a seasonal. At least get more use out of it.

Huh, the track is good for top speed runs, and drag racing. I dont see how drag racing, or street drag can be pointless, when you test which car is faster/better tuned (if both launch proporly). I Think people underestimate the interest in drag racing really.

Often there are a lack of tracks which have long straights, and the "highway" style of atmosphere, but here we have it, its the ssr7.

Dont even mention the le mans track straight, that tracks is to bumpy on the surface.

I think SSR7 could be, as it is, quite fun with more than 16 users driving at the same time. For example 32 or more. Or road traffic simulation.

Special Stage Route 5 or 7, for me are incomplete track models:indiff:

(I found a lot of modelling issue... they are real incomplete )

Yes, I noticed that too. SSR7 especially. I doubt the whole track was supposed to be fenced as to hide the outside scenery (which is missing). If you check the video posted in the first page of this thread you'll understand why.

I really think it was meant to be a free roaming track for everyone to drive around on, like in TDU. You know, Kaz said something about that and the fact that SS7 has all kinds of extra track beyond the borders and stuff really makes me wonder about it...

It is incomplete, it isn't featured in any event, no pit stops or anything... it's just a strange track. I think it was really meant for something else, but they had to scrap that concept and throw it in to increase GT5's track selection. IDK, definitely the odd ball track in the game.

For SSR7 to be proper fun, has to be traffic on the road.

I mean, it wouldn't be too difficult. The only problem is is that the PS3's graphical processor might not be able to handle all of the cars...

*brain wave*

Standard cars as traffic!

And not all cars should obey the law, either... varying speeds for each car.

Its a nice track to see how fast a Bugatti Veryon and a McClaren F1 will go, and some other high speed super cars.

I probably couldn't stand more than two-three laps at a time though. It would of been interesting to use in the Like the Wind Championship.

This is what we do in my league we use standard cars as traffic. Ex I just beat my bro on the Wangon because he crashed trying to dodge a standard car that was acting as traffic. It was so funny, it was a one on one race with 14 cars acting like traffic. Very good stuff.

Yes it's boring but necessary. Sometimes you can have a good run on it. Pick a HP and see who's the fastest. I think that the drafting effect is overdone though and I really hate Boost.

It will be much better if it's treated like an expansion that connects SS5 and SS11.
Connect those three circuits, and people might get an even more interesting circuit.

Yeah, connecting all ssr tracks with each other would be nice, so one can chouse where to drive...

^ I have no beef about drag racing in general, but without a proper flagger/flagging stage I don't see why this track is a proper drag racing track. Fuji is a better alternative to that. :indiff:

-> Sure, Wangan runs are stupid fun (especially in real life). But with a ghost town-like atmosphere, it completely kills the fun IMO. :indiff:

^ Never gonna happen! Why? Go here:

Gran Turismo Original Tracks >MISSING<

^ This thread gives out a detailed insight on why GT5's SSR5/CSR5 IS NOT COMPATIBLE with SSR11. ;)

I like it for cruises, highway pulls and of course drag racing. But I want it in day time. I'd gladly trade it for a proper 1/4 mile track.

Na, trade tracks is no good idea, we dont want things to dissapear (like the car giftning feature), instead we want more things. But then again, PD is japanese, and their organizational culture differs very much from US developers.

Waste of development time? Cool drag strip? Boring piece of 🤬?

I personally would have loved it if it had actual stuff in the background. Right now there's only a couple buildings scattered about and it looks like a bridge suspended in the middle of nowhere, literally. Feels unfinished. :indiff:

EDIT: PD should pay the Japanese government an insane amount of money to clear the Bayshore Route for a day so they can scan it and put it in GT6.

AMEN to the edit, Midnight. Wangan point A to B races would be f'n awesome, something I haven't played since the original Need for Speed on the 8 bit Nintendo. I'd also love to see the Mille Milgia, although that'd probably take another 10 gigs to do, lol.

I love the Special Stages, and any night time city races. Takes me back to my street racing days, and the Friday and Saturday nights with my crew.

Now if only there was an option to add a fog machine to my Cobra R, I'd be set!

I don't hate it but I've seen the same idea done far better elsewhere.

don't know if anyone else remembers a PS2 launch game called Lotus Challenge? Really good game back in the day which had several tracks very much like Route 7 only more interesting. You could also run Lotus 97T's down it too.

In that case, the maybe various games from the "Tokyo Xtreme Racer" series (aka Shutokou Battle) or even the latest Wangan Midnight for PS3 developed the idea better, featuring actual expressway/highway roads from Tokyo.

I'd like to see this in an event that you can race other super fast cars in. Have competition like the Citroen concept and the R92Cp.
