I usually start at 11th place for superstitious reasons mostly. But if the leaders get away too far, I switch to 9th.
I'm playing at level 6.

Generally I'll start 12th against level 6 AI, although there have been some odd outlier challenge races where I'll have to start higher up and then fight pretty damn hard to get to the lead and hold it. And sometimes when I just can no longer be bothered and want the series to end, I'll skip practice and just Leeroy Jenkins it from P4/5.
Yeah the one off challenge races can be a bit tricky in an essentially stock car - there was one race I got sufficiently frustrated with that i just put it at level 1 and started 3rd just to get it out of the way - LOL

I start in 8th and I use difficulty 5. Because the races are so short I think level 5 gives me an honest chance at winning. I've ran free play races at level 6 over 10 laps and it seems the front AI car(s) just continues to pull away and build a huge lead. So instead of there being a 1 point difference between 5 and 6, it feels like there's at least 2 to 3 points difference.

The 8th place thing goes back to when the starts were a real cluster #%@& and there was so much bashing that 8th seemed to be the best chance at getting through that mess and still having a chance for a win.
I don't think the jump from Level 5 to Level 6 is as bad as it was - you're right, 1st place would just disappear into the distance and you spend the remaining laps having to drive perfectly to have any chance of catching up. Whatever updates they done in the last few months have improved things.

Most of my mates don't play Forza so I'm looking for more friends to compare Rival times against. Send me a friend request - Gamertag is "The Doctor31" :)

After many tries of getting the gold in A Class, I decided to upgrade the Alpine and give it a go. After the first race (Watkins Glen, first place) I named her Eva, as in Eva Green: French, sexy, and liable to snap and try to kill you.
Afterwards, though, she'll compliment your perfectly formed ass ;)

Did the Street Stallions series tonight. Used the 1995 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R and for an American car it handled really well. It turned corners and didn't try to kill me even at stock. Got it to Level 16 (C Class 473) by the end of the series.

Colt Classics & Street Stallions. Also finished off the Open Class Tour and Jordan Luka event. With nothing left to do other than the final Legacy Tour, only Wild Horses is gonna drag me back.

I think what you meant to say is "...Wild Horses couldn't drag me away." ;)

Did another race towards unlocking one of the FOMO cars, the game is still a complete waste of time. Going to leave it at 5/10, what is the point of obtaining a car for a game that "nobody" is playing.

If there were leaderboards for total race time and fastest lap across every time an identical race to that one has taken place, at least there would be some interest to it, but as it stands, it's just completely pointless, it's every bit as much a chore as AFKing the single player stuff was.

Finally finished the open series with my ****box '93 Mustang. Went all out with it, widebody kit, racing V8 with the restrictor removed, and four wheel drive to make it driveable. With a bit of tuning it turned out to be a complete missile out of corners, I softened the rollbars to get some turn and a bit of oversteer, and with a 25/75 F/R torque split it took a nice punchy oversteer stance on throttle out of corners. Finished second in the first race, then managed to win the next two to win the R-class series.

Bit of a shock to go to the untuned Boss Trans Am car after that!

Finished Wild Horses and the Saleen reward race. Used the Dark Horse (naturally) for Wild Horses. Kind of struggled with two wins and a 3rd and a 4th place. As for that Saleen YUCK!!!! Finished 3rd and I was glad to have it. I will not be going back to try and get gold.

I'll be doing those tonight - now not looking forward to that final race :banghead:

Tried to do the first NASCAR race at Daytona but I didn't realize there was a pit stop requirement so I quit the race at lap 14. I'll go back and redo that one this weekend.

So I thought I would start the Open series. I had the idea to use the D class Shelby Mustang. Great idea for that first race at Road America. It ate up those long straights. On the other two smaller, twisty courses, it got ate up by the smaller more agile cars. So now I have to go back and do that challenge again. So basically I wasted a night.

Just finished the Wild Horses tour in the Dark Horse. It was real elbows out time from the AI in the turn 1 scrum but I guess rubbin' is racin'.

I wouldn't know because they are not my kind of games, but a closing race at the Grand West layout of Virginia Internacional Raceway (with no replays) must feel like one of those "souls-like" games. Especially when your Mustang weights and rides like a Clydesdale horse!

Anyways, the Mustang tour is done!

Picked up the Otherworld suit (newsletter reward):

Ran the Reward race in the Saleen S302 (boat like when stock, but when you get towards 700pp the handling improves).

Also ran the first race in the "Turn10 TurnLeft" series - switched from Hard to medium tyres at pit stop and finally unlocked the related achievement. Won the race by 25 seconds, so need to up the difficulty rating for these races.

Had an enjoyable FP race at Laguna Seca, only on level 6, but a couple of AI drivers overtook me before I finally won the race, the transition from evening to night was really smoove (guess the race being 15 laps helped) and the AI weren't stupid for once.

And then not only did I actually enjoy a race at Yas Marina for once, I enjoyed doing it using the cockpit view.
