Got messy. Real messy.
Aside from doing daily grinds for credits in a small selection of cars, often high grip cars like the Red Bull Jnr, I don't often do much else. I haven't raced online for a long while nor have I really bothered with Group 3 or 4 cars since before the last few physics revisions...
So I decided to run a handful of online races starting with Daily A.
After setting a mid 2:05 on my second lap, I decided that may be too competitive and remembered I setup a second account for online racing as my DR:B SR:S carried over from GT Sport and I wanted a clean slate for GT7. Switched accounts and set a 2:08. Should be good enough for a back of the grid start. Nope! Alt account is DR:E. Slowest qualifier on the grid was 2:26. Fastest 2:05. Huh? Seems I'm not the only one content to paddle in the shallow end of the pool. Did three races with a varied DR crowd, most were C and D, but the odd A appeared.
All three starting from mid-pack and finishing top 3. The DR A racer, an Argentinian, was setting consistently high 2:05s, leaving everyone in their dust. That was a sobering experience.
Decided to switch to Daily B with the R35. Spent a few laps getting to grips with the car and physics, intentionally dropping anchor just before the line to scrub the lap, setting a 1:29. I somehow missed the entry and thanks to PDs awesome scheduling had to wait another 15 minutes for the next race. Did some more laps and accidentally set a 1:27.
Started third. Got "nudged" off wide onto the grass on turn one, down to ninth. Back up to fifth by the end of lap one after dodging my way through some very questionable drivers (Brazilian in the green supra that thought side swipes are a legal move, you know who you are...). The breaking point came when I accidentally touched grass with the left wheels while braking for turn one though, sending me sliding off track. My own mistake.
As it was very close to midnight at this point, I decided to call it a night and quit out. I'll probably give it another go tonight, on the second account, just cause racing from the back of the grid, through racers that think blocking, swiping and ramming are legitimate moves, is more entertaining at times than just sprinting for the lead and avoiding the chaos.
