What did you do in GT7 today?

Got messy. Real messy.

Aside from doing daily grinds for credits in a small selection of cars, often high grip cars like the Red Bull Jnr, I don't often do much else. I haven't raced online for a long while nor have I really bothered with Group 3 or 4 cars since before the last few physics revisions...

So I decided to run a handful of online races starting with Daily A.

After setting a mid 2:05 on my second lap, I decided that may be too competitive and remembered I setup a second account for online racing as my DR:B SR:S carried over from GT Sport and I wanted a clean slate for GT7. Switched accounts and set a 2:08. Should be good enough for a back of the grid start. Nope! Alt account is DR:E. Slowest qualifier on the grid was 2:26. Fastest 2:05. Huh? Seems I'm not the only one content to paddle in the shallow end of the pool. Did three races with a varied DR crowd, most were C and D, but the odd A appeared.

All three starting from mid-pack and finishing top 3. The DR A racer, an Argentinian, was setting consistently high 2:05s, leaving everyone in their dust. That was a sobering experience.

Decided to switch to Daily B with the R35. Spent a few laps getting to grips with the car and physics, intentionally dropping anchor just before the line to scrub the lap, setting a 1:29. I somehow missed the entry and thanks to PDs awesome scheduling had to wait another 15 minutes for the next race. Did some more laps and accidentally set a 1:27.

Started third. Got "nudged" off wide onto the grass on turn one, down to ninth. Back up to fifth by the end of lap one after dodging my way through some very questionable drivers (Brazilian in the green supra that thought side swipes are a legal move, you know who you are...). The breaking point came when I accidentally touched grass with the left wheels while braking for turn one though, sending me sliding off track. My own mistake.

As it was very close to midnight at this point, I decided to call it a night and quit out. I'll probably give it another go tonight, on the second account, just cause racing from the back of the grid, through racers that think blocking, swiping and ramming are legitimate moves, is more entertaining at times than just sprinting for the lead and avoiding the chaos.

Today I sold few more cars from my garage in my never ending downsizing process. I sold a Toyota Sports 800 (which I drove at Nurburgring last weekend) and a Honda S800. I decided that "little vintage car" wise I'll stick with the Abarth 595 and the Mini. Also sold extra copies of a Civic Si '87, a Civic '93 and a Porsche 911 (830) '81. Talking about newer cars I let go a Civic FK2 '15, an Audi TT '03, a Veyron and a Bugatti VGT.

I improved my time at the current online time trial by 0,010. Talk about little steps... 😅 I think I'm at the limit of the Viper at Willows. Maybe I should change to the meta. (Alfa 4C)

The despicable wheel again gave me 10K of my time. Pff.

Today I decided to play around a bit more with tires, after reading the other thread about tires, I decided to change all 74 of my favorite cars to more appropriate tires.

I like sports tires for their universality, but comfort tires give a bit more of a challenge, and also are more replicative of what you find on vintage cars, small sporty cars, muscle cars, average hatchbacks, etc.

Suffice to say, I don't own many newer cars in this game, the few ones I do have are the 992, C8, Vantage, etc.

Anywho, lastly I took the Boss 429 in for a paintjob. Painted it from the Jade color to Royal Maroon, a different factory color for this car. Couldn't oddly find the Candy Apple Red though in the paint shop... That color was my first choice. :guilty: Put the boss 429 decals back on it in the editor, and gave it hood latches, and took the front lip off. I never liked the front lip as it just felt kind of over the top. :odd:

Drove Fisherman's Ranch Reverse for I swear the first time ever. Don't think I ever did in GT Sport. There is that one mission in GT7 where you drive it, but nowhere near the whole thing.

I wonder if anyone else has ever actually done a full lap of the track in reverse. 🤔

The reverse layout is a completely different experience. It definitely seems as though it was designed to be run in one direction. I rarely run the reverse course, but I have been meaning to attempt some decent lap times, so I might actually give that a go today.

Was searching for a decal for a Larrousse LC92 livery. Couldn't find a specific one (the SAR logo on the nose cone), but spotted another player's design with the decal I needed. Decided to download the design since it looked pretty good from the thumbnail on the GT7 site, but at closer look...... what a freaking mess some people can make. I don't know how some people can think they've done a good job and then upload it too.
First, I tried fixing it, but it was such a mess, that I decided to delete everything that was done, except for that one decal, and built the entire livery on an almost blank canvas.
Took me some time, but it looks good now.

Took it to Kyoto park and had a lot of fun driving this car around. Did a full race distance (300km) with it, without really noticing 😄

Raced against someone who goes by "Takata-One" on my alt account. I use the word "raced" loosely.

Pre-race lobby I check for any outliers - those racers that aren't DR:E (alt account is still DR:E), no outliers, we're all DR:E. Skim the qualifying times and that's when I find the outlier - Takata-One.

Now, I'm not quick, but according to qualifying times I'm quicker than everyone else in the lobby with my low 1:27 qualifier. Player starting behind me has a 1:28, behind them we're in to 1:30s. But Takata-One has a 1:24... Clearly this person has ample experience with Road Atlanta and the Nissan GT-R!

Lap one turn one and I'm .3 behind. On turn two and three (soft left and sharp right at the top of the hill) though they somehow get the rear of their GT-R to rotate absurdly quick at speed, resulting in a 1 second gap by the time we're through the S section and the following left...

The race plays out as expected - by the end of the first lap, I've built a 2 second gap between myself and third, Takata-One has 2 seconds on me. This player was demolishing the track! They were consistent through the entire 7 laps, finishing some 13 seconds ahead of me, and 32 seconds ahead of third.

I have to tip my hat to Takata-One though, as rough as it was for third place to be gapped by me, clearly not a DR:E racer, Takata-One made sure that I didn't look like the best driver on track and showed everyone what you could actually do with practice and skill.

That's 5 races completed with 5 finishes in the top 5 at DR:E, and so should be it for my time in that bracket, although I won't complain if it's not.

Easter Sunday and I had my usual gaming time. Today I tried (again) to improve my lap time at Big Willows with the Viper Gr4, but sadly with no sucess. I'm dropping the ball here, 1:18:1 it is. I don't feel like trying the meta car to get a better record, at the end of the day the gold reward is just the same.

I test drove some Mazdas today. The RX-7 '90, the RX-7 '02 and the Miata '89. The older RX-7 is (surprisingly) a good ride in its stock form. The Miata is just terrible out of the box, however after small suspension adjustments and a sport silencer added the car becomes alive.

I sold another batch of cars today. The newer RX-7, another pair of extra copies of some Civics and Porsches and a Mitsubishi Evo X left off my virtual garage.

The despicable wheel of a 4 stars ticket gave me 30K for my playing time. Meh.

1:17:9 is possible for this American boat. In a perfect lap, at least for my poor driving skills.

Understeer is a pain and also with BOP conditions on the Viper is so underpowered, it just looses momentum so easily.

I just like this car so much in real life that's why I wanted to get the best lap I could out of it.

Ive been learning to do the Daytona grind with the Beat. It’s kinda fun and I get a lot less sleepy than at Sardegna. But I’m having trouble nailing the CRB.

So, I mainly run Daily races so I never have an opportunity to upgrade components and tune them. Obviously this is an important aspect and because there are multiple component upgrades and endless adjustments it can be a pretty daunting task, after all, this is what killed the Jane’s flight sims.

I recently bought the 1966 Cobra 427 and my first move was to upgrade every power component that I could and to reduce as much weight as possible. This turned out to be pretty funny, even the AI Sophy couldn’t drive it. I have since, eliminated all upgrades and started from scratch and it drives much better.

I’ve tuned the cars below just enough so that they are all fairly competitive with each other in a race without using BOP.

Hey, live and learn 🤷🏻‍♂️

Last day of the Easter Holidays, and I had very little gaming time. Still I brought my Mazda Eunos Roadster '89 to Nordschleife and had a couple of laps done.

The car is badly tuned and the lap is badly driven too.

I'll make this car justice another day, by driving a better lap but that's all I could put out there today.

I did a bit of grinding and put in a few more laps at Lake Louise in order to get back into the gold rewards. I also bought the F40 and F50 (Please don't let there be an F1 within the week). I turned off the display HUD and tore around Goodwood in the F50 for a bit. It's just fantastic as always.

Did a Daily C on the alt account as I'm a fan of Kyoto Driving Park. Didn't set a qualifier and didn't pick the meta car, just to make it more interesting.

Race highlights included;
4 cars jumping the start.
Another car going hard left at the start, causing a pile up.
A handful of people thinking pushing and punting to pass is legitimate.
A Brazilian in an Aston fighting with a Supra, getting pushed wide and losing the position, resulting in them throwing their attention at me.
The same Brazilian in an Aston going hard right out of the pits into the racing line, just to be rear-ended by a black Viper, sending both off track.
Finishing 4th just for this to happen...

The lower DR lobbies are brutal!

Decided to give Daily C a few more runs. The previous race put me in to the DR: D bracket. Race 2 got messy as on lap 1 I was punted off track at the second long left, spun and rejoined in last. Clawed back to a 4th place finish.

Decided to give the meta car a run, still starting from the back. By lap 3 I was a second behind 1st place. Nice Brazilian in a red Silvia seemed to have a faulty controller as everytime someone came along side them, their car would suddenly veer towards the other car. Most peculiar. Pitted on lap 4 with the Brazilian door-banger a tenth ahead of me. They made the crucial mistake of going hard right on pit exit, picking up a 3 second penalty for crossing pit exit line. Easy sailing from there for the first win on the alt account.

I took the F3500 to Sardegna. Then I did a portion of my 700 pp Sophy race but I decided I needed to make some changes because I put an Escudo in the group and it is too fast. Gotta find a replacement for it
