Well even though everyone knows that the difference between Ford Euro and Ford USA are like night and day; That shouldnt make much difference in the actual car other than quality etc. But I have certainly heard more bad than good about the SVT Contour. It only does 0-60 in 8.4 which is getting into economy car times. It might have good steering geometrics and a nice chassis feel, but its lateral grip is a pathetic 0.86
This is from a 1998 SVT Contour road test, and I dont care if they've upgraded them since then. But I really think that a Maxima or a TL Type-S would totally blow away the pathetic Contour SVT anyday on a track, dragstrip or as a daily driver.
And dont start about Mondeo race cars. Does the success of the Hyundai Rally car mean Hyundai's are good in any way?
Yes but they are made different becasue of what each region wants. For example ford of america wanted a crappy car, wheras ford of europe wanted a good one.
And saying that fords race cars dont have any impact on their roadcar lineup is also wrong. If ford didnt do rally or touring cars, we would have missed out on all the RS and cosworth models in the 80`s and 90`s. A modern example of this is the focus RS which probably wouldnt have been made if the Focus wasnt competing in the WRC. Its called homologation, I think. Also I love the way you picked hyundai, out of all the manufacturers the one that didnt homologate their WRC car. For gods sake even skoda made an octavia rs.
