What do you think is the best front-wheel-drive sedan in the world.

Now where exactly did you get the idea that they would make a supercharged AWD Mondeo. That sounds highly ridiculous.
it was fords plan to make the contour into a sedan that can compete with and m3, ITS based on the M3
called "Profile" and was suppose to have a supercharged all-wheel drive beast with parts from the all wheel drive euro mondeo bin.
its highly ridiculous cuz ford rarely keeps ther promises
well this is still ford but who the hell would spend $30,000 on the New Bullitt? 270hp? up 10hp from the stock GT

All standard front-drive sedans are boring as hell, with the old Accord leading the pack, closely followed by the 626, Altima 2.5S, and Camry.

Fortunately, the new Accord V-6, (Mazda 6) V-6, and Altima V-6 add a little spice, but the Camry is still the boring one out, even with a V-6 (it wouldn't matter if it came with a V-8, it'd still be boring).

Not to say boring isn't totally practical. People like boring because it usually means dynamically unchallenging. The Camry, Accord, etc. require no two-step processes to turn on the air condition, no strange window controls, no weird looking dash, no potent interior materials or colors. Unfortunately, with none of all that, something else is missing: It's called character.

Only a few front-drive sedans have character. The Maxima SE has character. The X-Type has character. The Audi A4 falls only slightly short of having character, as does the Neon R/T.

And frankly, I'd take character over sensible any day.

Uh, the X-Type is AWD, not FWD. But still the Acura TL Type -S can whoop the Maxima SE (esp. the TL has a crisp 6-spd tranny)

Check out the comparison. The Maxima is $6,000 cheaper, has 255 horsepower to the TL-S's 225, gets 21/28 MPG to the TL-S's 19/29, has more head room, leg room, shoulder room, and hip room (both front and rear), has more cargo volume, a larger fuel tank, a better powertrain warranty, more passenger volume, and wins on four or five feature classifications too.

Cool pic Ving, I bet that Mitsu Magna Ralliart will be a worthy competitor to the Holden Commodore SS (non-HSV).

RS: As what you're saying...
about the X-Type, according to the article from Edmunds.com (www.edmunds.com):
The X-Type expands Jaguar's range of cars in a few noteworthy directions. First of all, it's the first Jaguar vehicle to boast an all-wheel-drive system. Called Traction 4, this system is somewhat similar to Audi's quattro, with 40 percent of the power sent to the front wheels and the remaining 60 percent directed toward the rear. Traction 4's rear-biased torque gives the X-Type a sporty feel; in most situations, we found that the sedan handled like a muscular rear-driver, with none of the wallow found in some of Jaguar's larger sedans. Finally, the X-Type adds a new dimension of affordability to the Jaguar lineup.
Despite these benefits, the Jag doesn't impress me at all, I still prefer the G35.

Well regarding the Maxima SE vs. Acura TL Type-S w/ Navi.,
its a tough fight between these two, but there are in a different class levels (supposed to be: Acura TL vs Infiniti I35 or Nissan Maxima vs Toyota Avalon).

Comparison according Carpoint (http://autos.msn.com):

I know the 2.5 and 3.0 X-Types sold in America are AWD. Did you click my link? :)

Um, I agree fully, but you were the one who brought up the TL Type-S/Maxima SE fight in the first place, so I thought I'd follow through with the comparison. :)

About the X-Type: Yes I did click the link, You didn't mention if it was a Euro-domestic or a USDM.

TL vs Max SE: Yes I understand, I'm just defending my interests about the TL, but the Maxima is a decent car no doubt, excpet the rear-end.

I thought the direct link to MSN UK would speak for itself, but I understand your concern -- the new 2.0 X-Type is sold throughout Europe, and will not (as far as I know) be exported elsewhere.

The rear-end on the current model is nice compared to the coming rear end. I would post it in your auto tabloid thread, but I can't seem to find the picture.

The kinks you speak of called character sound suspiciously like minor defects. :odd:

Which is probably why everyone says Lotus and Ferrari are just gushing with character. :D But there are cars out there with both good character yet lacking defects. The Lancer EVO comes to mind, as do most in that segment (well, all one of them: Impreza STi). The Skyline GT-R had loads of character, and bulletproof mechanicals to boot. Two more words: E30 M3.

But generally, some cars are built so cleanly and solidly that they tend to elminate all interaction with the driving experience. Sure, you can get to where you're going both in style and in comfort, but the thrill is gone. Nothing is perfect, everything is a compromise. And thankfully so. I'd prefer an all-out sensory overload when I drive rather than someone not-talking me to sleep.
