What does everyone here do for work?

He sits on his butt all day clicking buttons and getting paid for it. He also writes totals at the end of each day.

I actually do something. I either paint machinery, assemble machinery, check in inventory that's been shipped to us, go pick up and drop off inventory, or machine parts on a mill. Also I slack.

For the past week, and then again next week I've been a driver assistant for UPS. Which means that I drive around all day in my neighborhood that I've lived in for 19 years, picking up & delivering packages. It has to be the most nostalgia inducing thing I've ever done..

How exactly is a 17 year old being allowed to drive a city bus in New York City of all places?
According to the US Documents on Bus Drivers.
While many States allow those who are 18 years of age and older to drive buses within State borders, the Department of Transportation establishes minimum qualifications for bus drivers engaged in interstate commerce. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations require drivers to be at least 21 years old and to pass a physical examination once every 2 years.

New York Department of Motor Vehicles Requirements for Class C-A vehicles.
Are there age restrictions on getting a CDL?

You can get a Class B or C commercial license at age 18, but federal requirements dictate that you must be at least 21 to drive a commercial vehicle across state lines.

If you're between 18 and 21 and have at least one year of driving experience, you may obtain a CDL with the restrictions that you may operate only within the state of New York and you are not eligible for the passenger, school bus, or hazardous materials endorsements. You must be at least 21 to receive a Class A license.

I'm also wondering why a 17 year old would risk doing something which could result in a driving ban, heavy fine and possible imprisonment.

I would tell you but it's against the AUP to discuss illegal activity. Send me a PM.

Fraud is a pretty serious crime, which is why I think this seems a bit far fetched. If you were seriously committing a crime like that, would you really want to post what looks like a picture of the bus you drive?

It's a fine effort though. It'd make a good movie, especially if Dennis Hopper put a bomb on his bus. (No one steal my idea)

That is a photoshopped image in my Profile Picture. It's illegal so PM for way more info if you care so much. Plus we drive different random buses to drive after each 3 hours or so.

Can I just ask, why do you drive a bus illegally?

Same here. It's obv. you're doing it illegally, but I can't possibly believe you still manage to get around all the strict regulations when it comes to NYC transit (paperwork, bus checks, etc.).

I've been wondering that for a while too.

Please don't hit M5Power/Doug, or we'll all be eating 4-year-old crow for Christmas.

Oh, I'm at Audi now, too.

I am an editor for a publishing house that does magazines about consumer electronics. I am the chief editor of the DIY loudspeaker magazine KLANG+TON and an editor (mostly doing speakers) of the magazine LP, centered around records, expensive and extraordinary hifi and analogue audio in general.

I am unemployed right now but looking at working at either Wal-Mart, local music store or local pharmacy

Yeah I'm still at the Cinema, I really need to pull my finger out soon and find a 'proper job'. [/cornish]

I'm thinking about getting a part time job at the local kiosk or petrol station, both are doing alright for being in a coastal town of about 200 people. :indiff:

Do you know what age it is legal to start a bit of work here? I've been thinking of just doing a bit of work for say a fastfood restaurant like Maccas, or KFC for that little extra.

I think it's 14, i applied last year at the kiosk because they needed extra help, but i was only 13 and apparently you have to be 14 with parent's consent, i'm 14 now but another girl about my age started working there and i think they have enough now. I could still work there if i wanted to, but i'm doing work experience later this year at the local service station. Anyway, i think it's 14 with parent's cosent and 15 without consent. I think some larger businesses you have to be 15 anyway, but there's not many large businesses here. :(

Well I'd hopefully be going to either of my parents workplaces the next holidays to help around a bit. Dad's a scientist and mum's an accountant, apparently my mum needs someone to do scanning, she said that I could have a go next holidays. Maybe.

I'm still working as an events coordinator for a company based in Stanmore but we have offices in Stockport which is where I'm based. I'm in charge of several client accounts, mainly governmental. Most of the events I organise are low key confereces at a certain hotel in London, Aberdeen, Birmingham, Manchester etc but we get some bigger ones that require the use of an exhibition centre. I've used the SECC and NEC and also an event in Madrid. It's an interesting job and it gets me a about a bit, I've done a few trips to the NEC and SECC and back in a day or two, right now a trip to Madrid isn't on the cards, sadly. But I am heading to France for a week in September to help finalise some arrangments over there. I'm not in charge of this even, but I'm going as an extra body and for experience.

I'm a delivery kid. I ride around in a truck with my co-worker and deliver to restaurants, hotels, Subway, Wendy's and small stores. It's an easy job, hardest part is getting up at 5am. On the bright side I get picked up in the truck and I get home in the early afternoon. I get to see some interesting things along the way, kangaroos (hit two :scared:), cows, horses, foxes, rabbits, cool cars (saw a TVR a few weeks ago). :D

I used to be a "waiter", you know, serving out drinks, food, beer, taking up orders, etc.

However, now that it's closed down, I'm helping my father in his LPG garage. While he installs computers and tanks, I install parts on the tanks themselves, safetyvalves, etc.

Hehe, I've been offered a job as a result of my work experience. I start working this summer at a Graphic Design/Magazine Reprographic Section. Great. :D

Extra cash and doing something I love doing.

Still working at Tesco. Up to a nice healthy hourly wage and getting shares.

Been giving responsibility of a small team once or twice when my manager and team leader haven't been in. It's not just shelf stacking, I have to put the shelves up and arrange the products first :P
