I made my own Camaro (as in putting in the options I wanted). It went from 25G to 34G VERY fast. They are that expensive. I'd take the Camaro over the Civic. I'd rather be fast, than look fast, Im not saying that Civics are slow or anything, just that I class the Camaro over the Civic. If the Civic was rear wheel drive I would respect it more, as I dont like FF's that much do to the oversteer that comes with them. Would rather have oversteer. I dont mind people who just like to make their cars look nice, but when they try to intimidate actually fast cars, that's when "I-dont-mind" turns to "what-the-h*ll-are-thinking?-Are-you-special-ed-or-blind?". I like cars, no matter what country they come from. The only think I hate is people who are so buyest to their country of cars that they are blind to see the good sides of cars from other countries. All they can see are mistakes. Hard headed people like that are rediculous. I love all cars (except Gremlins :grumpy: *shivers*) :P...

Yea...that comparision seems to be a load of crap. Right, lets compare a Civic to a Camaro Z28. Anyway, I honestly don't understand why everyone has such a big problem with people modifying their cars. Oh know, it doesn't have a V-8? Its got a paint job and rims? It must think its faster than us and so lets put down irrelevant facts to make sure it KNOWS its just a Civic. Even if the owner is just making it into a nice car, it MUST think that its fast because it tries to "look fast". You ever think that people like the way it looks? I mean I could be wrong, but I thought that people bought decals or a body kit to make it look better. I really haven't seen a Civic hatchback with a wing like that other than that Nitto online game I used to play, but if you have, then a simple "looks cool/crappy" will do. I doubt they are trying to show your big V-8 up.

There are some imports that do look goo, but a majority of them do not. Imports just have a bad reputation.

Nobody has a problem when people modify cars, its just when people try to make their cars only "Look Fast" and then try to intimidate actually fast cars is when people hate them. If they just want it for looks and dont really car for racing, I dont mind it. And another thing is why the H*ll would you put a big ass wing on a front wheel drive car? I understand putting the correct size of a wing on a front wheel drive car to keep the tail end planted and to stablize the car in turns (though they understeer badly), but comon, some look like they were off of a 747 Jumbo Jet...
 
I've often wondered on the wing thing to but never got a straight answer

I realize it was a joke, and my post wasn't aimed completely towards the comparison pic, but I hear that kind of stuff all the time. "That ricer thinks his car is fast just because he has a body kit" or "What a peice, my stock ___ could beat that ugly Civic" or something to that effect. It just annoys me, and seeing that comparison just set me off. I dont know, maybe I'm wrong. I just like a lot of cars with body kits and wings (not tacky, but good looking ones) and big mufflers and intakes and things like that because thats just what I like in car world. I'm not a muscle car guy, I'm into the imports, so I guess thats why I posted what I did, though I still stand by what I said. About the wing thing, huge, tall aluminum wings like that I think are unnecessary and heavy, but some people have really bad taste.
 
Honestly...The reason people put big sized wings on FWD cars..is simply for the looks..Like what's his name said..Not everyone is looking for optimum performance..Hence people chroming the valve covers on SOHC 4 cylinders...There are alot of FWD cars that have the appearance of a RWD car...AKA Prelude...And if a person doesn't know that a prelude is FWD(I don't know of anyone that wouldn't) they could easily be tricked into believing it was RWD..untill they opened the hood/saw it drive
 
damn, if I knew it was going to turn into a east/west thing, I would have shutted up... but then again, I see that the one with the point here is frustrated palm. and even with that, someone mentioned good and bad taste. I am not a n import guy, im into hot rods and customs, and stuff like that... and even there is terrible taste. Ive learned to like imports in this forum, because it IS completely an import forum with some exceptions like me and some other guys, but I think even the most import guy in here would rather admit that there are more bad taste than good in modifying an import... tha damned proof? see all the fuss about 2fast 2furious. I think that the cars in the damned movie are AWFUL, even if they have more hp than they should. ok, youve got a damned fast car, but a ridiculous looking one (the paint in that nsx... yeah, its got 654 hp... but id be ASHAMED if someone saw me in that... even if it can beat ANYTHING). trying to make it look good? yeah, with a wing that resembles a jet, literally. please. good taste is something really scarce these days, and with encouragement so massive like a movie, the things are doomed. I really hope that this rice thing goes to hell, but I dont think itll be soon.

I like imports very much, but not ricers... and a ricer isnt necesarily an import. have you seen a riced charger? I have. and I wanted to killl the guy.

and there are also wings with neon and wings with lights and, damn, plastic wings. you get it? that mazda in yer avatar has a wing because it needs one, just as the lemans cars. lemans cars NEED the wings so they wont get airborne... these stupid things perform better if they dont have a damned wing. and look better too.

and its not only the wing... bodykits that look like the cars being tortured, wheels so big that scratch the bodykits sheetplastic (not sheetmetal, thank you) and wont turn completelly, exhaust so big i could get my headinto, and of course, its just the tip, down that is the stock one, and 300 kg of stickers, so maybe womeone will fall that the guy has all those thing in the car, even if sometimes the sticker says pirelli and it wears ltd tires, and even if it has stickers from two or three companies of nitro systems... a painted fire extinguisher made to resemble a nitrous bottle? check. oh, and those neon lights!! oh, impressive!!

now go and see a lemans racer. or a racer. anything that really races. it remembers me the pro-street crissis of the mid-eighties, in the hot rodding scene, where street cars were made up to ressemble drag cars, but some of them didnt even ran... other had these gigantic scoops on the hood, rear tires so fat the pumpkin barely got in there, and a damned big-block-something with the biggest supercharger the dude could buy, and theyd run 13 seconds. please.
oh, and they had all these graphics... painted, at least... but, damn, they were still ****.
thank god, the 80s pased and now the focus is on making a hot rod that really performs and really drives. good taste comes in too. and altough there are still trailer queens and stuff, the focus is changing quickly. I hope it happens the very same with the imports.

ok you all say its a joke but then cano re-iterates exactly the point zrow was making. i agree with zrow again.

i am totally against nos and i don't really see the point of good engine mods AND a soundsystem, ur not going to be able to use both at the same time right? + it adds weight, but one thing i believe is that you can never have a wing that is 'too big' :D i love wings, big exhausts and big wheels with low profile tyres. why? i love performance too, i don't have a fetish for plastic or neon lights, but if you have a good car, you need to dress it up. some people can't afford REALLY good cars, so they buy the best they can and still dress it up. i have a problem with people in modded cars trying to race you but those kids would do it in non modded cars too. but people who argue that sticking a nice wing on an M5 'just spoils the car' are wrong, you don't tell a really hot chick that she doesn't need to wear makeup because she looks good already. same with a car, yeah she looks good but with a few tweaks here and there you can make her look amazing.

there isn't an FR car on this planet that cant benefit (in the looks department) from a wing, dropped suspension and nicer wheels.

(yeah i know someone is going to quote that! :D)
 
I respect a ricer if they actually KNOW what they are doing to their car. I mean if your a mechanic (not the greatest adjective) then there's nothing wrong with it. If you're doing it just to look cool, then you're a poser. I mean, sure you can add a big ass spoiler but do you need it? No, unless you cruise the streets at a 100 mph. If I were ever going to do anythign to my car, I would do it myself.
 
BTW, just so everyone knows, Im not an Import hater, and I take NO sides. I understand why some people do some things, and why others do another.

I believe a car has to EARN its badging and look (stickers, stripes, bodykits, etc) just how a soldier earns his rank. If the car is fast, sure why not? If the person only wants it to look good (even if it happens to look fast, but that's not what they were going for), its not problem. I just dont like it when someone tries to make a car only look fast and then they try to intimidate actually fast cars. You can usually tell when a car is actually fast here when you look at the details, but you never know, could be a sleeper.

Quickselver: another word that is used these days is a "Technition"

BTW, a "RICER" is a term for a bad car (or a person with a bad car) that only looks good, then they try to intimidate other people. Ricer doesnt mean Import, they are different. At least that's the way I use it :)...
 
Sleepers rock. I don't know who saw that Civic video (vs. the nitrous injected Viper) somebody posted a while back, but that was just bad ass.
 
yup, sleepers are cool. thats why they say... NEVER have a car that looks faster than it is... or youll only be laughing stock. this traduces as a ricer. but the other way around, mwehehehe instant fun. and they wont know what hit them!!!

Wow. Not only is the SS worth probably 2-3 times more than that Civic, but I gurantee you it's 2-3 times as fast - even with it being stock.:lol:
