What have you done to your car today?

Swapped the stock stereo for an Android tablet. New amp is on the way, since the last one I tried using didn't output any sound.

Nothing super special, but she was sounding a little...asthmatic on cold damp mornings, and I suspected the labyrinthine stock intake and pillow-esque air filter might have been the cause.

It was on sale on Amazon with 2 day shipping, and I figured now was as good a time as any to help her breathe a little better. She sounds deeper and has a quicker throttle response, given that the air doesn't have to travel through a whole mess of boxes and corrugated pipe that increases resistance, and this pillow:

(Not my photo, just comparing the stock air filter(bottom) to a high-flow airfilter(top) that I was considering buying until the intake kit I got went on sale.

Got this coming for my H22 build. It's the factory intake manifold off a Japanese-market 00-02 Accord Euro-R, and flows better than most aftermarket options. It's been modified by Rosko Racing to work in an American car and includes the Acura RDX fuel injectors I had planned on getting as well. The inlet's been bored out to 68mm to match the new larger throttle body, and the fuel rail is custom for this manifold-injector (Acura RDX 410cc) pairing. Second most expensive part checked off the list, it's a bit of a milestone for me. Plus, these manifolds seem to have been discontinued by Honda and they've been incredibly hard to get a hold of, even by importers, for the last two or three years.

*ED. - new photo, now that it's in my possession and I've transferred over what I need from the old manifold.

Don't know why it took more than a year to finally bother to cage je chavvy black centre caps but it looks better now :) Wheel refurb might be in order sometime this year. (And yes they are filthy :P)

I'm in a kind of transitional phase, putting some money aside to move into a place with a garage and I'm really wanting to walk out on my job soon even though it'll probably mean a bit of a dip in pay for a while, so my engine build's on hold. To fill the boredome, I've hand-polished my Spoon Sports header (just primaries; they bolt to the stock downpipe):

Also, I got a speeding ticket. 65 in a 45 at 4:30am on an empty country road. $155.

Wash, Clay bar, light wax. New brake pads (Hawk HPS) when they are delivered this tuesday.

Also garage parking for a while just to enjoy the joy of clay bar clean. 👍

^ I've got HPS pads myself, and they've been great. They dust little enough that the car wash takes it off (I haven't washed the car much over the winter with the constant on-off moisture, either), so this has probably been the longest my wheels have ever stayed clean.

I'm jealous of your paint finish. I badly need a re-spray.

Thanks, since new in august 2011 (Im the original owner) Ive practiced the two bucket method, never used car washes with brushes, and washed regularly. This was the first time I did a clay bar and it really brought out the reflective qualities of an otherwise mediocre subaru paint quality.

I swapped the coil pack with a second hand coil pack and all the problems are over and out, done, finished, gone, .... . 7 months driving around with engine problems, to find out that it was just the coil pack.

All in all, I'm so happy now that my car is fixed.

For months, my passenger side projector has been aimed at the ground due to the headlight housing being broken where the retrofit bolts to the back of the stock reflector dish. With nice weather, I finally got around to fixing that despite having spare new headlights sitting at home for quite a while.

Took both of the old headlights apart and transferred the one projector from the broken housing to its new dish; that involved using a dremel to enlarge the stock bulb socket (TheRetrofitSource's Mini H1s, if anyone happens to be familiar). I then put the housings together just enough to properly mount on the car, and went to a nearby parking lot with a good wall for a rough aiming:

The HIDs showed up pretty well in the daylight, so I thought I got them both level, and went ahead and sealed the new lenses to the headlight housings. By the time I finished it was dark, so I went to the wall again:

Left-right and up-down aiming are functioning great (not topping out before reaching where they're supposed to; common problem if the projector is seated at a bad angle in the dish), but it looks like I have to go back and mess with the 'twist' some more. Driver side shouldn't be a problem, since turning the back securing nut clockwise won't risk backing it off. My only fear is having the remove the passenger side lense again; very time consuming with all that butyl sealant to mess with. A big part of my holding off on this project is because I work in a different city from where I live and have to leave early enough that it's still dark. This fix will have to wait until my next day off.

Got 'er done, at least good enough for my own scrutiny. Got everything buttoned up just as it started to snow. It's only too bad my phone's crappy camera can't capture the nice red of my dash lights, lol.

Washed both the E30 and M5, and replaced the faded, pitting and falling off rear emblems that's seen much of the intense Californian sun.

After:

Maintenance time, Changed out the Resonance chamber seals, oils separator, serpentine belt, air filter, engine mounts ( lehmforder ), steering rack boot, clutch, changed all the hydraulic hoses to silicone ( REIN ) and a bunch of other parts, still waiting for 2 parts to come in before i can use 'ol silvers again.

Porsche Boxster?

Jacking at the diff doesn't seem to be that uncommon? People commonly use the diff as a jack point on my BMW, to varying opinions and degrees of consternation.

Gave my Smart a good scrubbin', got my summer wheels on and hooked the amp and subwoofer up 👍

Thing's already dirty again from a forty mile drive home from my dad's place :grumpy: Weather isn't as great as it was a week ago, either.

yep ( added the boxster "S" parts but not the badge after the S came out a year later, plus some Option Z Racing Bits and pieces ), I also have a BMW 325ci, and it's got additional jacking points.

for now I'm Rebuilding the BMW 325ci's Shiftronic Sequential Transmission, while waiting for more parts, busy summer !

I bought a 1972 260z as a parts car, but it turned out all that was wrong with it was ... the ignition rotors and spark plug wires where on the wrong sequence ... so anotehr car for another batch of projects.

That's awesome! Rebuilding an S30 is a project I'm dreaming about myself 👍 Maybe someday... Those things are prohibitively expensive over here, though. Nissan never sold as many as they did in the US, so they're collector's items by now :grumpy:

I never found original pistons for the engine, so i had tanabe motors rebore it the larger group A rallye pistons, the car came with a lot of extra panels, an extra L24 motor, and 2 extra transmissions, a used BRE motorsports 5 speed and my 4 speed, installed a monza super sprint vertical stack exhaust because i can no longer find the original or even the rallye straight pipes.

btw, you know it's part of your family if it has "baby pictures' in your hallway LOL

My Wife got herself disqualified at the end of October (6 months ban for numerous 'relatively minor' speeding offenses), and as a consequence the 996 didn't get driven for a couple of months. When I came to start it, it took ages to fire up, and when it eventually did, it was only running on 4

Had it recovered to my local indy at the beginning of this week and got the call today with the list of work;

New battery
Coil packs
Plugs
Rear discs & pads
2 rear tyres
Couple of suspension arms
Auxiliary belt
Some bulbs and other bits
Service
MOT

Also asked them to look at the central locking and the AC, both of which have stopped working.

Looking forward to getting her back end of next week :) Not looking forward to the bill :nervous:

I put my Fiesta into a wall last night trying to keep up with my friend's Evora. Kicking myself really hard, both because because I made a rookie mistake I thought I was long past, and because I'd long since sworn off doing stupid stuff on the canyons for exactly that reason.

Fortunately it's just a bit of body and suspension damage, and I can get parts wholesale and have a shop so I can have it back up and running pretty quick.
