What have you done to your car today?

After looking up Raybrig lights they are halogen xenon which means they are more than likely not DOT approved bulbs, thus illegal. And you paid $85 bucks for them? You got ripped off, looking around the net they can be had for $50 easily.

And the best out there for high performance lighting is probably Höen, everyone I've ever talked to, no matter what vehicle they drive, swears by them. Plus they are designed so you don't blind other people while driving down the road. They even offer the upgraded connectors so you don't have a fire.

You probably will get pulled over for your lights, especially if there is a blue tint to them. Also xenon like bulb make it very difficult to drive in anything other then clear weather. If it's raining, foggy, or snowy the light is going to do weird things. About the best thing I can suggest if you are going to keep the bulbs is to install yellow fog lamp bulbs, not driving lamp bulbs though.

I'll try to keep that in mind, thanks for the tip and I'll try to keep myself from getting caught. Wish me luck. :) You saved me a ticket Joey D I owe you one

They just look stupid to be honest, plus the fact that they blind oncoming traffic regardless of how they are aimed.

Well (and, as someone who often drives at night,) they are irritating when coming the other direction. Granted, TRUE HID headlights (and not swapout bulbs) are much brighter and nicer to drive behind, but make sure they're aimed out of the way of oncoming traffic. I can't tell you how often I get blinded by some luxury SUV with the HIDs burning into my retinas like eye surgery lasers. And those are the low beams. Part of that is the higher headlight height (cars don't bug me AS much) and part of it is the sheer brightness.

On the other hand, I have Silverstars on the Nova, but A) I know they're legal, and B) they're true Sealed Beams, thus still don't throw as far as modern headlights. I think the only time they'd be all that irritating would be when I use the high beams...and that'd be irritating anyway.

One more thing: do you live in a heavily populated area, or somewhere more rural? You're more likely to get caught in the city: I once got absoultely seared by a pickup with EVERY SINGLE ONE of his eight off-road spotlights on, doubt he got caught, since we're out in a fairly rural area.

Silverstar bulbs aren't all that great, yes they are brighter and yes they are legal but they just aren't good. I went through several of them on the Blazer (mainly because I was dumb) and was very unhappy with their performance in retrospect.

Proper HID systems, ones with auto levelling systems and washer, shouldn't blind you. Many American vehicles lack these features, while all European vehicles have it due to law in the EU (or so I'm told). I've only had one person flash their lights at me and I think they were just because a bit of jerk since they were in an F-150 and my cut off is about at it's bumper.

Anyone with aftermarket HID systems and use them on the road should be ticketed because it is very dangerous, especially the blue, turquoise, and purple ones.

Another stupid thing is turn signals with red bulbs...in the front! I don't have a picture, but there's a Chevy S10 at the school here that has a coffee-can muffler (4-pot) and red bulbs in the front turn signals. I need to find it to get some photos!

If you get clear corners from APC for the S-Trucks the bulbs they supply you look very red while on. I had that problem when I got my first set for the Blazer. But yes it's is very annoying, indicators need to be amber.

I did something...interesting recently. It gets...reactions. I'll have to take some pictures. It might gather another "how mature" quip from Duke but from most it gets a giggle or a profanity.

I don't think I want to see that kind of thing on GTP. Either that, or you've been writing Clarksonan number 11s.

Haha well I'm positive they were actual red bulbs and not bulbs that appear somewhat red. Of course his truck also has a giant brush guard, and is only a RWD.

Why "especially" those? They aren't any brighter than normal ones.

No they aren't but they are much harder on your eyes at night and tend to cast odd shadows on the road. Not to mention it's unbelievably distracting to see lights that aren't colours we are used to.

**Light nearer to the blue colour spectrum gives a harsher, more contrasting look, while light near to red give a softer, smoother look. That's why you typically aren't bothered by the yellowish glow of normal halogen headlamps. Also having been in a car with aftermarket, blue-ish 10000K HID system I can tell you that the visible light in front of the car was awful. Also most HID systems will have decreased lumen's with a higher colour temperature.

You have to look around, but most bulbs that say DOT approved also say "for offroad use only, check local laws". Most import style bulbs aren't DOT approved, but most bulbs from companies like Slyvania or Phillips are.

There are these:

And these:

The best thing to do is look into your state's motor vehicle code and see what they say, if not you can always call you local police department and inquire about what is legal.

Thanks Joey D I'll be able to show people that Korean are great Imports too, by the way are you planning on doing anything to your MINI Cooper?

All I've done recently to it is install strut tower guards. I have a big list of thing I want to do but I keep thinking my money is better spent elsewhere.

booked the car in for thurs, i know it needs radiator replacing but they will have to do a thorough check to see what damage the overheating caused and give me a quote (and hopefully not involving a head gasket) :scared:
