What have you done to your car today?

I'll tell you what I did to my car today...
I ran it to 4800rpm and scared an old M6 into submission.
That's right, a joy-riding M6 got burnt by a '01 Corolla LE.

Saw a car taking off about as fast as my self only one light ahead of me. He caught red, I caught the same red, I looked the car and driver over... Older man, really nice car, custom exhaust (based on the smell)... I saw how he accelerated for the light before, saw him by himself in the car, figured he was joy-riding a toy at baby boomer age.

I went for it and got him big time on the reaction time... By the time his reaction was on point I'd already gain just enough to work the automatic transmission into the near-peak HP rpm range. He fought against it for a moment but gave up as I passed 4000rpm and created better acceleration than himself (which was still lower rpms due to the slow reaction). He gave up and I walked up to 45mph where I just cruised to the next light.

Fun stuff for sure.
That M6 would have ripped you a new one if he really tried.
I know the Corolla XRs with the ZZ engine is a pretty quick little car but not that quick. :banghead:
Good stuff though Kent. Nice kill.

yesterday, something hit my passenger-side rearview mirror, and knocked the lens out of it.

a new one is on order.

Hehe, nice. I gave a punk in an SRT4 a run for his money. He was tryin to act big with his loud BOV (gf was with him); started from a ~20mph roll in 2nd gear with him right behind me. By 80mph, he still hadn't made it to my rear bumper and let off. I love smokin kids in their new-ish cars with my 20 year old Tbird that I barely have $3k in. :sly:

I got an oil change. (cost me a fortune, i got synthetic oil) and found out i have a gasket leak on my oil pan, thats a plan for tomorrow! wooo

Finally got a new front windscreen after having it cracked since May. Insurance covered the whole thing and I'm glad it did, would have been almost $800 without it. There's a bunch of tape on there right now but it should be good to come off tomorrow.

Cleaned my air filter, fitted some mudgaurds and also tired to fix a squeak comming from the suspension/steering. It only seems to happen when im accererating from standstill or near standstill and also when i turn the wheel very slightly. It sounds like a noise when you rub rubber on rubber but a lot louder and a bit more creaky :s I sprayed wd40 everywhere and also put some grease in places but I cant see if the noise is gone because my air filter is still damp.
Also painted my back box flat black, might be questionable to some of you but makes the back look a lot smoother

I really like your car Slick Rick 👍! Looks clean and simple and the mud guards really bring everything together.

I completely tore the rear end of the car down including the drums so that I can replace both wheel hubs, change the trailing arm bushings with polyurethane units, and get rid of the drums with Plymouth Neon discs so that the car will finally have 4 wheel disc brakes. :D
4 bolts and the axle is dropped and ready for bushing removal.
That'll be next weekend though. ;)

Today I test drove mine around the block a couple times. I need a new TPS sensor, and my Walbro fuel pump is going out already and I've barely driven my car a few times since we rebuilt the engine and throttle body :grumpy: Don't buy fuel pumps from eBay... lesson learned...

I didn't even touch mine today. Damn rain.

Tomorrow... if it's sunny... it'll be due for a thorough cleaning.

I'm looking around for a set of 'big brakes' from a 2G DSM. Because 900+ degrees isn't any fun when you're on the track.

On my mom's Mazda 6...

Slight airbox mod...
K&N air filter (needed it anyhow)
TB grounding mod (was worth a shot)
New wiper blades.

Now sounds better, and may be marginally quicker.

Tomorrow going to maybe do a TB coolant bypass.

Fitted my hid's today, needs major adjusting though the glare is pretty bad from far....

Quite white for 8k but still need 50hrs run in time though..

Looking good, did you get all the relevant safety features fitted too?

I cleaned my car today, and found it's first paint stone chip, about 3mm long and right down to the primer. :(

However the cleaning was worth it since it needs it more often in the winter. I was hoping to wax it but didn't have time so in the end it was a wheel wash, then a whole car wash, then a drying of the bodywork and wheels, before sealing the wheels and dressing the tyres. Might apply a few layers of wax tomorrow, though.

Also spoke to my brother about his first car and he said he would take over the payments on my car in a few years time if I wanted to get a 500 Abarth. :D

Technically, I haven't done anything to my car today, but I did take it to the local garage for it's MOT, and it looks like I'm facing an unfortunately large bill. Unfortunate, because I could sort of see it coming. When I pick it up tomorrow I'll likely be poorer to the tune of £250-300.

I could do with getting another car at some point really, one that resists corrosion a bit better and just generally doesn't go wrong in any way, shape, or form. Something like a Honda, Toyota or Mazda probably. When the right time comes I'll resurrect my car choice thread again! The Ford is getting to that age where the little things that are going wrong are more and more expensive and time consuming to fix.

You missed a bit :sly:

I havn't done anything to it, but 2 weeks ago I got the oil changed and right now the local Chrysler dealership has it. They are replacing the timing belt and water pump, along with a few gaskets. I think my EVAP solenoid too.

My timing was off by 14.5 degrees, they were surprised my car was even running. Thank God for cam/crank sensors that said WTF and told the computer not to rev over 2500rpm.

On Tuesday-Wednesday, I prepped and painted a set of bigger, dual piston calipers off a later Talon for install on mine.

On Thursday I gave it a wash and wax. It hadn't seen wax in a few months, and really needed it.

Friday morning I swapped the 'big' brakes onto my car. The rotor is slightly thicker, and about an inch bigger, as well as having a dual piston caliper with a bit more mass to it, which should help with heat dissipation. Between the zinc-washed rotors and painted calipers, it looks good too. I haven't got on the brakes hard, yet, as I need to bed them in. Initial bite is fantastic, and I've now got a very smooooth set of brakes. They just barely fit under the stock wheels, with about 3/8" clearance to the spokes.

The same guy that I got the brakes from offered me a set of 16*8 split-five spoke wheels. I didn't catch the brand. They've got tires mounted, though one is destroyed. The best part: He offered them for free. I just might have to bring myself to three sets of wheels and perhaps swap the Azenis over to them, as they're on 16*6.5 wheels right now.
