What have you done to your car today?

Managed to tear the front end off of it today on a bump. Lip went under the car and I thought it was my mudguards scraping at first, so I kept going.

Ended up tearing the front lip off, running over it around 5 times, and tore off the right side of the front bumper.

The lip actually went back to it's original shape ( Yay for polyurethane! ), despite all the paint chipping off and a bunch of scratches, but I will need to fix the sides where it bolted onto the car. The front bumper itself didn't really get any cosmetic damage, but I'll need to find a new way to bolt it to the fender now.

Oh, and my trip meter just happened to be at 666 km when it happened. :scared:

Lmao.

All my friends make fun of my car sitting way up high--they call it a CRV. But hey, I don't have to worry about tearing stuff apart!

I think I should get myself a new battery for this winter. I don't know how long mine has been on there but the terminals had a good bit of corrosion when I first got it a year ago. I've killed the battery good 'n dead about 7 times since then, too. Looks like most of my Christmas money will be going to that. How exciting! Also, I'm going to have to toughen up and give it an oil change in the freezing cold here in a week or so. It's gotta be fresh for my Detroit trip. This time I'll make sure to get 5W-30; last year I used 10W-30 because I didn't think it would make a big difference. Well, that night in Detroit it was well below 0 degrees and when I went to start my car in the morning the battery struggled for about 7 seconds to turn the engine over 3 times. The oil had turned to jello!

I did something today that doesn't make my car handle better or go faster *gasp*. I installed a new stereo deck. I've been about 6 months now without a stereo, and it feels good to have my music back. I never did stop getting music, and I've got plenty of new stuff since last time to listen to now.

Haha.. I'm impressed you went six months without music. A lot of people can't do it.

I'm just the opposite. I never listen to the radio while driving. Well, unless its like a 5 hour road trip. But for my normal daily commute, the stereo stays off. The sound of a turbo spooling up is all the music I need to hear. :sly:

Didn't exactly "do" anything to my car, but when I got in I noticed I had a nice run of fours on my odo. Not bad considering my car is only just over ten years old.

I looked at my car today. I'm always in awe. :D
Rear axle and bushings getting installed today so my drum to disc conversion can be started. :D

actually, i took it to a car wash and they washed it

It'll be scratched to hell then...If there's one thing I'm never doing it's getting a car wash place to wash my car, or getting a machine to do it. It's not worth the damage they do to your paintwork.

On that topic, I got my Finish Kare 1000P sealant today, I've only managed to apply it to half the car so far but it's very easy to work with, gives brilliant protection for 3 months+, and even gives the car a nice gloss to it. The gloss apparently gets deeper as it cures over a few days too. I'll be finishing off the coating tomorrow 👍

Here's the reflection on the driver's side, I was very impressed considering it's a white car;

I got pissed off at having to roll around on winter 14's, so I put my Enkeis back on. It has barely gotten cold enough to snow here so far this winter, so until I actually see some snow on the ground, I'm not switching back.

Drove it around today and noticed my odometer had exactly 111 111.1 miles on it. Didn't have a cam with me otherwise I would have taken a picture. I also parked it at the local pet store beside a curb and opened my door to hit it off a small rock that had been placed for decorative purposes. Didn't see it coming in and when I swung the door in I heard a clunk......Seems like I wasn't the only one as there were other paint colours rubbed onto the damn rock. What a stupid spot for a rock. Now I have a small patch of white paint where the black paint had been.

EDIT:
Just took her out again and the check engine light went on.... Yay. :grumpy: Oh well, car still drives fine. Must be a dirty 02 sensor that made the CEL pop on like last time.

Changed out my front shock absorbers. I got all four for Christmas, but when my dad and I checked the rear has decently new air shocks in the back which are better then the ones I got. I knew I had air shocks but he didn't believe me until he actually got a good look, oh well, the store credit will be a little treat.

The front ones were absolutely terrible though:

I also figured since were not living there anymore I'd have a little fun in the garage. I must say it was quite a blast, and surprisingly I got both tires going. On the drive home I noticed she handles much better now, and it even feels like the front is a bit higher. One of the best Christmas presents I've gotten.

Reading your post I just considered that. But then I remembered the hassle of washing these wheels up so I could set them in my room. It look me like three hours in 30 degree air.

Today I fit a great deal of stuff into my little car to go back up to uni.

Not bad, considering in there there's a full size mountain bike, two large bags of clothes, a CRT television (a skinny flat screen would have been so much easier!), a box full of magazines, CDs and games, a couple of other bags, and not least, my girlfriend.

I'd love to see whether the same would be possible with a new model Fiesta.

I'm actually surprised how much stuff one can fit in a small car.

If I would've had more I probably could have fit it in there as well.

From my experience of putting large objects in small cars, I'd say the problem nowadays isn't the size of the inerior but the stupid shape of the hatch itself.

That is true, there have been bigger boxes I know I could have fit in my car if the hatch hadn't been so oddly shaped.

Really? I figured with the Mini's rear-end shape, you'd have a better chance than others, say like Civic hatchbacks.

The top is narrower then the bottom.

Today I put some more washer fluid in it. And £20 of petrol.

Tommorow I'm going to put some air in one of the front tyres, as it looks a little flat.

If it goes down again, I'm going to the tyre shop to get my free puncture repair.

I was wondering how much you could get in a MINI. They're not known for their boot space. Do the seats go completely flat? Mine go flatter than in the new Fiesta but not completely flat. Would be better if the seat squab could be hinged forward like in the old Renault 19 my dad used to own.

I helped grandpa (whose a mechanic) replace the alternator and the thermostat in mum's Magna. I'm looking at being a mechanic myself... :)

They don't go as flat as the rear floorboard, but I can lay them down.
