What have you done to your car today?

Painted my 5 spoke Audi rims black to use for winter. I'll take some way better pics tomorrow in the snow.

I am strongly considering painting my RS4 rims black as well... :)

Picked it up about an hour ago and it's like a new car... steering is pin sharp again and no more squeaking over bumps. Haven't had chance to give it a proper thrash yet (that'll happen early tomorrow morning on the way to the golf club), but looking at how far off some of the camber/toe numbers were pre alignment I expect it'll be back to how it felt 30k miles ago.

This was what my Mazda was like after a full toe/camber/caster alignment. I reckon it's the first time it'd been done to the car in 95k miles...

Well this weekend I am hoping on getting new tires for my car (Toyo Proxes 4). Hopefully next week I can meet with one of my friends and he is gonna help me with some car problems and give me a turbocharger for my car.

Yeah. I didn't like them at first, but them I realized:
A. 2 nails are in the RF and the tire was balding.
B. The RR was going down
C. The alignment is off a little.
D. The car is lowered, which I am not too fond of. (as ive said, the previous owner rat rodded it)
So i am going to take it to a local tire place, get a full set and alignment. Luckily the tires are on sale (74.99 apiece as opposed to 89.99 apiece) and alignments $70. Just curious, under normal conditions, how long do the PX4s last?

Treadwear on the Toyo P4 is 300.
I would guess somewhere in the 15-20,000 mile area, depending on your driving style, alignment, etc etc.

As a reference, I got somewhere around 14000 KM (~8800 mi) on my Azenis, which are 200 treadwear. However, I am hard on tires.

That's why it's a non-premo hint...it doesn't really say anything. Suppose the joke was lost over the internet.

Well, got some much needed (and 3 weeks overdue) washer fluid for The Brick. With state inspections coming up in February, I need to get some cash together for a left rear wheel bearing (Since it's a GM Product, that should be pie). Also need to get some tires for the new rims.

Each tire is 225/50/R16. Any affordable suggestions?

Cheers,
Jetboy

What sort of tires are you looking for? Summer only or All-Seasons? And what do you plan to do with them? Also what is your budget?

Well, looking for a sturdy all-season, good grip for spirited driving, decent (300-350 Tread rating) wear with a budget around $80 or less per tire.

I was told that that there is a rather nice set that can be had around $55/tire but was never told the brand. TireRack, IIRC, is a little expensive.

I think you are going to have a hard time finding something in that size with those specifications for that price. Tire Rack, I've found, is actually cheaper than most shops but you also need to factor in shipping which I've found adds at least $20 per tire. You also need to factor in about $15 per tire for mounting and balancing and an additional $2-$5 for disposal of the old ones.

My buddy has Kumho Ecsta ASX's on his Focus and he really likes them. I don't think he paid a ton for them either.

I figured a "compromise" response would be posted, but I can dream. The one local tireshop told me that I'd be paying $117/tire! I dunno if he was Pro Cup 2's on it or what.. :scared: Just want something grippy that would moderately last and not break me..

The last set of performance tires I had was Hankook Ventus HRII's, which were... Meh. Grippy but not. They were of a hard rubber compound that still wore out fast. 👎

Started hearing/feeling a good deep knock in the camry coming from the rear around 10mph and up, expected the worse, hoped for just a bad axle or wheel bearing. Fairly certain it's the wheel bearing.

Washed my pride and joy yesterday. Only to have a whole tonne of road works right outside work and now it's covered in dust again.... not happy

I tested my winter tires on glare ice! And they passed with flying colors!! Then cleaned the wheel wells with a brush so I dont get too much salt/snow buildup

@ Philly
I think the gti is great in the snow! Maybe because mines a stick and that makes it better for control in the snow but last year I drove in some pretty bad conditions and it did fine.

Sticks don't really make any difference in the snow, it's really all down to your tires. A GTI with winter tires and an auto would be infinately better then non-winter tires and a stick.

I guess so I was just trying to justify why I think my cars good in the snow and he doesn't think so. Ive never had a problem with it and I had tires with little tread on the front last year. Sure it wasn't nearly as good as in the dry but as long as I kept a decent speed and got on the breaks and would down shift quite early there was no problems.

[edit] Maybe because I had all season tires and not summer tires?

Falken Ziex 912.

I've got a set on my Talon that I use half the year.
Treadwear for a 225/50-16 Ziex is 360, traction is AA-A

I've found them to be great in the dry and good in the rain, but not remotely good in the snow.

I've seen praise for these tires from a couple magazines (Grassroots Motorsports among them) for their performance at that pricepoint.

TireRack doesn't stock Falkens, so you'll have to source them elsewhere.
