Actually just finish the Civic's story first. And make it quick.
I'll finish it sometime. I'm very busy lately, and combined with the holiday crap I'd rather maximize my sit-down time.

Anyways, it's a non-turbo S5 GXL. And it's sweet. I don't get it until Monday when I can pay for it in full. After that it's an inspection at the dealer, a hella double oil change to make sure it's clean, and other stuff like that. Probably won't drive it much for a week or so. Plus, winter. My buddy owes me a set of snow tires for this thing.
 
Falken Ziex 912.

I've got a set on my Talon that I use half the year.
Treadwear for a 225/50-16 Ziex is 360, traction is AA-A

I've found them to be great in the dry and good in the rain, but not remotely good in the snow.

I've seen praise for these tires from a couple magazines (Grassroots Motorsports among them) for their performance at that pricepoint.

TireRack doesn't stock Falkens, so you'll have to source them elsewhere.

You selling the Civic or keeping it as a daily?
Once my thread is updated you'll see that the Civic is no longer in the picture. As a matter of fact, Thursday and Friday I'll be taking a few more picture of it and my second, less-fun journey to New Jersey.

It's seen the track... 26 times this year.

I end up autocrossing on the 912's a few times a year during the winter and early spring. They stick fairly well for an all season, and break away progressively. The sidewall is a bit soft.
 
Probably soft cause of all the crankwalk Cam.

Arrrr...haven't said that in a while. It feels good.

Couple of backboxes for the Porsche. They are standard (2nd hand) boxes, modified with a bypass pipe between the inlet and outlet...

The modification gives the car a more throaty, 'aircooled like' sound and is a cruder version of the official Porsche Sports Exhaust. The PSE has a switch in the cabin that allows the pipe to be either on or off, but costs upwards of £1,200 + vat and these were £450 (from Germany). There are a couple of versions (105db and 110db)... I went for the 105db version as 1) 110db is too loud for most UK trackdays, 2) I don't want to attract too much attention when hooning and 3) it will still be quiet enough for longer trips.

Couple of pics of the car... it's a boggo 2000 996 Carerra, RWD, 6 spd manual. All standard at the moment, but will be getting treated to a Porsche Tequipment suspension upgrade in the spring (spring, shocks, roll bars and bump stops) along with new front top mounts... but there's the small matter of a transaxle rebuild to take care of first :nervous::scared:

I like the sound file you posted, it does sound just like an older aircooled 911. Car looks great too, that model of 996 is one of the cleanest 911s of them all. I've always liked that look, I actually prefer it to the shape of basic 997s. Can't quite top the look of the 993 for me though :D
 
IMO, the 996 is the poorest 911 shape... the headlamps are poorly styled, and the front overhang is too long - necessitated by the move to watercooling and thus the need to place radiators at the front of the car. Of the various 996 shapes, I prefer the narrow bodied ones.

I'd just like mine to ride a little lower, which the MO30 suspension upgrade will take care of (15-20mm ride height drop). I did also think about making the switch to 11" rears and 295's earlier this year, but as I understand it this can add understeer, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to stick with 10's and 265's for now.

Personally, I think the best looking modern 911 is the 993 in wide bodied guise - C2S, C4S and Turbo... such a lovely shape.

But when it comes to owning and driving, the 996 is a much better proposition - much more modern feeling to drive and with a much improved interior. Plus they are actually cheaper than a 993 to buy for some mad reason.

What I'd really like is a 997 C2S or a 996 GT3... but not really in the place where I want to drop £35-40k on a car at the moment, so the 996 will do for now... it still has all the feel of a 911 :)

Very nice Porsche man and clean.
And like owning any Porsche, it's a car that loves to be maintained with lots of upkeep.
The reason why I asked was because I too own a Porsche but an older model with front engine and rear drive.
Once called the 'poor mans' Porsche, it's a blast to drive and like you, must do alot of upkeep to keep the car in wonderful shape.

944's and 968's handle so nicely... I always fancied a white or yellow 968CS one day, but there are so few decent one about now.

And yes, they do take some looking after. Mine was trouble free other than a MAF sensor and 4 tyres in it's first year. But this year she's had 2 radiators, 2 more rear tyres (they only last about 8k miles), the suspension work, 2 back boxes. In January she'll need her annual service and the diff/gearbox rebuild... it's been an expensive 12 months!!

Oh, and I managed to pick up a pair of GT3 tail pipes for mine tonight for £100 :)

Stotty, that's the way it is with the Porsche but you got to love them.

I had the auto sparky come around to the house yesterday (I HATE doing electrics!) and fix up the thermo fan issues I was having with the Cressy, like the melted fuse box we found from the thermo fan!! :eek: Upgraded the relays and fuses (from 30A to 40A) plus new, thicker wiring inside and outside to make sure she can handle the current. It's so good to not have to worry about it cutting out intermittently and boiling the radiator like a kettle! Very professionally done too and a cheap call out fee means I'll be using these guys in the future if I ever have any future electrical issues. 👍 Didn't take too long, about 1.5hrs worth of work, the price spent was more than worth it. :cool:

Final step, brand new custom radiator (already have a custom alloy one in there but it can't handle the 1JZ, that's why the problems surfaced in the first place :() and then voila, my car is back to 100% ready to rock. :cool: I can't wait to get it all done so I can show up the LS1 & LS2 powered Holden utes in the area, the bogans won't know what hit them. :mischievous: Hopefully I can get it done by NYE so I can do some "testing" and make sure the new item can handle the pressure. :cool:

I'd give you guys pictures but at the moment I'm data capped (:yuck: ) so I'll have to wait until after Christmas to show the engine bay + put a vid up of the car in all it's glory.
 
I'm not at all a mechanical person but I'm trying to start learning. Changed my oil and removed this hunk of junk from the air intake system:

I have no idea what it's called but it seems completely useless and sapped heaps of power. Anyway at least now the air intake has some form of airflow.
 
I forgot what its called but it goes before the air filter and is supposed to cancel out any extra noise from the engine when you put your foot down.

At least that's what they call it for the car I have because it looks similar to an actual bong.
Resonator would be a more appropriate name for that contraption though. All those air openings are supposed to cancel out all the noise a free flowing air intake would make. It's actually a cold air intake from the manufacturer but with all the little plenums in the intake tract, it makes it useless for performance.

And yeah, it's useless. :D

Sounds good. On my last setup with the cherry bomb, the car sounded great although loud for some.
I'm going to be trying to use the longest one I can get ahold of so that it'll muffle a catless exhaust.

It seems a lot louder then I thought, but I have no problem with that :D. We had a Thrush muffler on for awhile and it sounded like a normal car. But now it seems deeper and a little meaner. I haven't driven a lot to really hear it yet, but tomorrow I'll have some time.

I'd like to suggest that you paint all the chrome shiny bits flat black. I often painted stuff like that black on my car because I don't like anything sticking out like a sore thumb. Scuff, clean, prime, paint.
 
Oh no! Reminds me of my friend in highschool who put a cherry bomb muffler on his Jeep YJ. :lol:

P.S. Wash your Blazer, the poor thing is screaming from all the salt.
