Today marks two firsts for me. First, I successfully made an Android APK through a sample Godot Game Engine game. Second off, I successfully sideloaded an Android application. The game was a demo of a template provided by Godot. It played surprisingly well on two different devices I tested it out on. I was able to test it on a Samsung Galaxy Tab A and my Google/ASUS Nexus Player. Only real problem I noticed was that the touchscreen buttons were on when tried on Android TV. And on a tablet PC, the touchscreen buttons could have been moved up so they don't appear hidden. Otherwise, I can really see what awaits should I successfully build a game for Android through Godot. The future is bright. I also tried to test this game out by sideloading it on my OUYA, but the farthest I got was a message saying, "there is a problem parsing the package" when I tried to install the game. The other two Android devices I used are at least Android 5 or 6 while the OUYA is on 4.1.2 "Jelly Bean."
At least this makes me realize what is possible should I successfully make a game using Godot. Once I get over a few quirks, I really feel more confident making something with this game than I have previously. I also am taking advantage of using cloud storage to be able to distribute my APKs for testing. For the OUYA and my tablet, I finally found some usage for one of my USB Flash Drives so that I won't need to download from cloud storage for testing/debugging Android games. I may have to rely on cloud storage for usage on my Nexus Player since storage is difficult to begin with on the Nexus Player. I may eventually want to replace my Nexus Player with the Xiaomi Mi Box, since it has better USB support and will still allow for decent Android TV development.
Only other thing I may try to figure out is how to use Godot without having to have Android Studio loaded at the same time even when I am not trying to export game projects to Android. If I can figure that out, I'll REALLY be happy trying my hand at game development.
