I'd probably go with a Samsung option over a Seagate, although I am a bit out of the loop as I haven't researched it closely since the summer when I bought and installed my SSD.

And yes you need one. It's the single most effective upgrade you can make to your computer, it makes everything you do so much more snappy and responsive it's unbelievable. My computer literally boots faster than it takes for my monitor to turn on, it's unbelievable. If you have games installed on it loading screens are basically irrelevant.

@CAMAROBOY69 - The PC Master Race would like to welcome you back. It's been far too long. :P
So it happened..... After a fair amount of work I managed to get ALL my electronics hooked up and running over the weekend at the same time with no issues at all. That includes 2 computers, 1 360, 1 PS3, Sony Bravia HDTV, receiver, pc sub and speakers, and other goodies.

Since this is the PC thread... I was able to get both my computers hooked to my 40" Sony Bravia. :) Installed and played several games including Age Of Empires 3, League of Legends, Black and White 2, Far Cry 2, Yuris Revenge, Red alert 2 and several others. One of my computers had some compatibility issues with AOE3.

Getting the computers hooked to the tv required a DVI to HDMI adapter. In fact I am going to make a new thread with some questions and suggestions.

Personally, I'd go with an 840 EVO.

Without a doubt, yes. Yes you do.

I just installed f.lux. It'll definitely take some getting used to but at least my retinas aren't burning anymore.

The Seagate is basically a Corsair Neutron GTX. I guess ill go for it then. Will prices go down much this year?

I have a question: Is there any way I can stop Windows 7 from auto-muting (well, auto-attenuating) programs when system sounds happen? Like, if I'm charging my phone while playing BF4 and it rings, I have to disconnect it from the dock to answer, so I get the 'boo-doop' sound, then I plug it back in and get the 'doo-boop' sound, but BF4 is super quiet, then I check the sound mixer and it's at 5% volume or something. There are other instances of this but this is the only one I can think of, and it's annoying because then I have to alt-tab out (fullscreen windowed mode is broken now so I have to use fullscreen) which causes something like five successive screen blank-outs, then alt-tabbing back in causes another five and yeah, annoying.

Never saw that happen on my Windoze box, which is Win7/64. Possibly some "helpful" addon that was pre-installed when you bought the machine?

I had the same problem myself. A very simple fix.

>Press the start button
>Search for sound (I suspect you know your way around the NT environment Neema, due to the posts from you i've seen in the "What have you done computer" thread. Just go to the sound menu where you modify the sound card settings. You know.)
>Click sound
>Go to the communications tab
>Select "Do nothing"
>Press "Ok" to apply the settings

It is a neat feature if you think about its purpose, but it does the same for external HDDs

Now that my pc is hooked to my 40 HDTV I am able to sit on the couch and play without ANY wires!! Plus the mouse has enough buttons so I really don't need the keyboard at all. :D Nice to be getting back into pc gaming again. Been many years.
Wireless Keyboard and wireless mouse. Mouse has 11 programmable buttons..

I re-installed my GPU. Oddly I didn't have to update my drivers, which is odd as I uninstalled the drivers before uninstalling the card...

I've done this because I had the "Display driver has stopped working but recovered" issue, followed by screen corruption/artefacts and eventual restart. 7870LE.

Hopefully this works.

I actually really don't! I've only owned a PC since 2011 and the OS is a mystery, some things I can work out by figuring out what to Google but in this case I'm a bit stumped. Or was, rather, until I read your post which has fixed it. Not sure why I hadn't had a poke around there before, thank you very much!

Edit: I've been playing around with emulators a lot lately. Ice works really well once you get it set up and is a very useful tool if you do any emulation. You tell it where you keep your emulators, then tell it which consoles are emulated by which emulators, then it'll generate a ROMs directory with sub-directories for each console. Drop your ROMs/ISOs in there, run Ice again and it adds each ROM/ISO to a Steam category named after the console, then when you launch a game through Steam it automatically starts up the emulator and that's it. It's supposed to have a built-in 'quit game' shortcut where you hold start and select together but I don't think it works with Xinput controllers. I'm not too bothered about that, though, since I have yet to test them in Big Picture mode (except for ePSXe which really didn't like it) nor Steam/Limelight streaming.

Nope, still doing the same thing. I need to remove the card and run it from the on-board graphics to check if it's something else, but I probably will end up sending it back to manufacturer as it's only 8 months old or so.

So I just got my birthday present. Let's just say I now need to find an alternative use for an 8-year-old MacBook. I could turn it into a media server or client but that's boring, also I'm doubtful of its capabilities in that role. Maybe I could install MAME on it? It's a 1.8ish GHz Core Duo with an Intel GMA 950 IGP, so it's hardly a powerful machine. It does Steam home streaming well enough, though.

You might be able to run 2D games on the MacBook but I doubt it'll run any 3D arcade games.

Since my old GPU gave out, I got an HD7850 to replace it, but found that the old one can works now.:boggled:

So I stuck the old one back in for 4 screen capability with no DisplayPort.

Well not today exactly..

Ordered a GTX770 from Dabs on Thursday before 6pm and paid for next day delivery. So Friday comes and no new card, rang and was told I missed the cut off even though I didnt and now getting it on Tuesday. Next up are Corsair fans to fit in my ROG case.

Roll on Tuesday, will I use Dabs again...probably not after seeing some reviews of service, should have looked before ordering!

When it rains...

I've confirmed the GPU failure and I'll be getting a full refund. Woo!

On the downer, Windows Update has broken my installation today. Arses. The first attempt at installation repair didn't work, at least a clean install doesn't take long and I don't have a huge amount of data on there that isn't games, so a data grab shouldn't take long. Bit of a double whammy!

I picked up the first few parts for my PC build this week.

Two days ago I picked up the LG Blu Ray / DVD writer drive, today I picked up the Corsair CX600M power supply and also the Corsair Graphite Series 230T case.

It's rad, it's a crazy vibrant orange colour with a side window.

This will be my first ever build, and I'm building it to play Project Cars etc.

Nothing so far but I just downloaded windows 8.1 evaluation to see if this older pc's hardware is compatible with windows 8.1.

I'm still using XP. :D

Tested iRacing at full graphics setting on triples at 5760x1080 using the new 770. Sticks constant at 84fps and no more stuttering frames so well happy with the card.

Next up to test is BF4 and Titanfall.

Good card, went with the asus version to match the system and because of the great reviews. No complaints here!
I'm torn between the EVGA and Gigabyte. I think I'll go Gigabyte for the better cooling (I live in a pretty warm environment)

And I went with MSI's version for no apparent reason whatsoever. It breezes through everything I've thrown at it, so I'm rather pleased. :D:tup:

You pay extra for the EVGA cards even though they are reference designs(well most).

Gigabyte and ASUS triple faned options are the best.

I have an MSI 680 (Twin Frozr 3 cooler), it's fantastic. So quiet, very cool, I'm sad that I'll need to upgrade it one day. Not any day soon, mind you.

It won't run 8.1. It'll crawl 8.1.
It's even worse than that. A few minutes ago, I wanted to download the motherboard drivers. 8.1 is not in the list. :ouch:

Googled for 8.1 drivers. Gave up after a few minutes. Seems that I need a new computer.

2x :ouch:

Unless I keep using XP.
