I got Windows 7 running, albeit very slowly, on a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz with 512MB ram,so your pc should be able to run windows 8.

I'm looking for a laptop bag for college, but I have no idea where to continue looking as Amazon has not helped.

I've got a MacBook Air 13", but I need a bag that has a shoulder strap (not a backpack, though), is waterproof and has compartments for other stuff, namely the charger, some pens, a scientific calculator, an A4 pad and a couple of those Snopake 250x180mm foolscap folders, though a bit more would be nice (I do occasionally have to carry large ring binders around). Basically I want what I have now, but designed to store a laptop without damaging it. I have thought about buying a slip case to put in my current bag but I don't want it banging about inside a big bag, you know?

This is what I have now:

Any suggestions? Ideally I want to spend £50 or less, but we can't have everything.

Ideas please?

I just un- and re-installed Firefox because somewhere along the line it was taking up over 200Gb. :odd: Back down to a respectable 54Mb now.

Bought some Turtle Beach Z22s to replace my current Sony 5.1 HT System. Gutted as the surround was awesome but as I mainly race when my other half is in bed above the room that has my PC in, it has to be done!

First impressions of them are good, just need to fine tune everything and its handy having all the controls so close to hand.

I cleaned my grandmothers PC which had not been cleaned ever (6-7 years). Looked like the thing on last page, except worse.

Wut? Just how?
I honestly have no idea. Control Panel showed it at 200Gb and my 1TB drive was almost full. I'm now showing just over 200Gb free. Needless to say I'll be keeping an eye on it every so often.

@TB, a lot of cached videos maybe? I'm really having difficulty trying to figure out how Firefox can take up that much space.
If it is, it would be from Netflix, which could be a possibility, I suppose.

Started resurrecting my 2001 PC today, re-casing it all and trying to figure out what I can use it for. It was quite high end in its day.

AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.3ghz
ASUS A7A266 Mobo
1GB DDR1 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 2MX

I'm going to try and put Windows 7 on it which I think it should handle. Does anyone think it will run Windows 8?

So today, I did some more research on computer parts, because I need a new computer. Here are the parts that I picked:

Operating System:
Windows 8.1 ($98)
Optical Drive:
DVD-Rom ($20)
Case:
Corsair Vengeance ($128)
Power Supply:
Seasonic S12II ($70)
SSD:
Samsung 120GB ($90)
HDD:
Seagate 1TB ($58)
RAM:
G.Skill Ares 8GB ($65)
Motherboard:
Gigabyte Z87 ($130)
CPU:
Intel i5-4670 ($220)
GPU:
Gygabyte GTX 760 ($260)

total:
$1149 (?)

Am I missing anything? Are the parts good?
(the prices might of updated since those figures were from a few weeks ago)

Any reason you aren't spending the $0 more for the 4670k over the 4570?
Whooops. I probably accidentally passed over it. Fixed. I'm not going to get the over-clock version, because I really do not see myself over-clocking in the future.

Does everything else look good?

So instead you'd rather spend $30 MORE on the exact same processor that doesn't' allow you to overclock instead of spending $30 LESS for one that you can but don't have to. Not seeing the logic.

I'm going to assume you've already compared the GTX 760 vs the 770? When I picked mine up, the extra $60 game included with the 770 made it a no brainer. No idea if there are any deals still floating around or not.

What? When I checked the prices, the overclock version is $10-ish more expensive. Either I'm looking at the wrong thing or something.

I personally haven't seen any deals. Hopefully by the time I start buying the stuff, a deal will pop up.

The 4570 you linked to before - $190
The 4670 you linked to after - $220
The 4670k I mentioned - $190

Research is your friend. ;)

I'm pretty sure (but I haven't compared any specs before posting this so don't take my word for it) the Z-series motherboard's biggest advantage is that it makes overclocking much easier, so if you don't want to go into that you could save yourself some money by going with a cheaper one, possibly.

Basically, if you buy a K processor you'll want a Z motherboard, if you don't want a K then you might not need a Z.

Doubt it. I'm showing it at $230 now, too. Last night it wasn't.

If you can't/won't increase the memory there's probably no point in installing Win7; it needs around a gigabyte just to boot up. Running Aero would be out of the question, too.

I don't think I'll increase the RAM because DDR1 prices today are insane. In more concerned about the processor keeping up.

Windows 7 run's fine with aero on 1GB of RAM, I have run with that on my other newer Athlon 64 3200+ PC for 4 years along with Photoshop and CAD programs.
