What is the scariest horror movie?

that's actually a matter of opinion, but nowadays, the scariest thing out there is more The News than anything else.

So true^^^

Wife and i watched trick r treat last night. Wasnt really scary, but was pretty good. Shame it never hit the big screen. Great halloween movie. Had the vibe going through the whole movie.

For me its Stephen Kings It. Mostly because of my fear of clowns, especially killer clowns.

You should read IT. Movie did it no justice at all. Pennywise is one evil mofo for sure!

A Serbian Film :scared: This is one messed up film!!

Isnt that the one that was banned in a few countries? Anyway I forgot one film, Ive never actually watched but Ive seen clips from it, its called Cannibal Holocaust. Its not really scary but its extremely creepy. And the special effects are amazing for a film that is 25 years old. They were so realistic that the director actually got arrested for murder and producing a snuff film.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

In the film, Emily is woken at same time every night(2 am?). After I watched it, it happened to me twice, and I swear I heard something creeping up my blanket. I don't believe in ghost or demon bothering people, especially me, but I know I didn't dream that.

For pure horror film value, The Ring(Hollywood version) is pretty scary. I have yet to watch it alone, so..... yeah.

.... There was another slasher film director that had to explain to the authorities and also release a documentary stating that his films (The Guinea Pig series) weren't a snuff film. The first film was created in 1985...

Its not a scary movie, more of a gore-fest and horror than anything else, as I understand it from Wikipedia.

I just remembered one of those cheapie "x of the Zombies" types we used to have a tape of. something about a group of WW2 soldiers, German and American, running into some sort of gas that made them immortal during the day, but zombied them at night, and they had to go over their battle continuously when that happened. it's not that scary, but it actually came across as pretty well written. beware of the 70's hair in that one, though.

I'd add "hellraiser" to the scary movie list. it's not an outright gore-fest like others of its era, but there's just enough of everything to make it nice and tense and scary.

I'm a big horror buff but most Hollywood horrors just aren't that scary. The best film scare I've had recently was the original Japanese version of "The Grudge", called "Ju-on". Good ghost story!

EDIT: Ooh, speaking of zombie films (as PeterJB reminded me in his post below), here's one a lot of people probably haven't heard of but it's a must see if you're a zombie fan: "Pontypool". Fantastic! Though I wouldn't say it's the scariest.

This is a difficult one. I haven't watched many horror movies although I want to watch more, especially zombie ones :D

Signs and Insidious are boith very goiod at making you jump and generally freaking you out without you having to witness people suffer on screen. Human Centipede was disturbing and scary because it seems like the kind of thing some nut job may actually try and replicate. That is basis of the 2nd film, I read the synopsis, no way I'm watching that tripe. :D

Pontypool is good.

It's one of those movies that makes you use your imagination for the first 3/4 of the movie.I thought it was awesome.

*edit*

Another good one that makes you use your imagination, and is pretty dang good at it, is Paranormal Activity.A lot of people will say nay,but this movie wins my vote for "freaking yourself out before anything happens" award. The director did a good job with this movie.

David Lynch's Eraserhead is an amazing film, not sure if i was scared or disturbed by it.

The Fourth Kind is one of the best scary movies i've seen for a while.

I'd say Paranormal Activity, The Grudge, Nightmare on Elm Street ( I was a kid when I saw this ) , and Poltergeist.

I know its funny and poorly acted, but the first time i saw Aracnaphobia i threw the covers off my bed and inspected the bed every time i had a foot tickle for a week

Event Horizon.......terrifying.

Totally, Deep Blue Sea & High Tension.

Edit: Tremors scared the hell out of me when it came out on VHS. I booked it to my bed and hopped under the covers for the longest time (*cough* still does it *cough*) growing up.

The Ring

This movie gave me the creeps for a few weeks after watching this.
If you liked The Ring make sure to check out Darkness Falls. Holy crap that movie is almost as eerie / creepy as The Ring. There is a part in that movie that made me jump worse than any other movie I have seen. :scared:

I cant think of the scariest horror movie. But The Ring and Darkness Falls are up the list quite far. Thirteen Ghosts is quite scary too.
