What Phone Do You Have?

I think all modern phones have crap battery life compared to the old-school Nokias(at the time I only went for Nokias but I'm sure all the other brands had huuggee battery life too), they used to last days without charge!
Also depends on the phone and how closely it's grown onto your hand. I have three Sony Ericssons which I'd call at least semi-modern - K800i '07, C902 '09 and U10i Aino '10 - and the best battery lifes I've got out of them are 13, 15 and 9 days respectively. In "normal" use both the K800i and C902 gave seven to eight days and the U10i gives five to six days, and normal use for me includes several internet visits and calls a day, as well as the occasional SMS.

Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) on Android's 2.3.3 gingerbread update. Absolutely love the phone. Screen is large and very clear, it's fast, and (as a personal favorite android feature of mine) you can download any file you like from the internet and use it or transfer it like a usb drive in your phone.

Can't wait for my hardware upgrade in a year and a bit for my hardware upgrade for the s2.

Casio GZ-one commando. I absolutely love having a smartphone that's waterproof and basically indestructible!

Call me crazy but I can definately see myself using the newly announced Galaxy Note as an every day smartphone.

So much want...

I wonder when these phones will stop growing in size... The Note is immense and I think my Galaxy S2 is big enough.

I have an alcatel ot 980 that I am using to post right now which cost just £80 on orange payg which I unlocked and put a giff gaff sim is so I have unlimited net and texts for just 10£ a month without a contract. PM me if you want a sim because you get £5 credit for refering someone and they also get £5 for being reffered

Now the phone itself I thought was amazing until my brother bought himself a milestone 2. Anyways it is very good for texting because of the slide out QWERTY but the screen resolutions leaves a bit to be desired when surfing the web. Forgot to mention it has android 2,1 but overall its A GOOD PHONE FOR ITS PRICE

I need advice for a good car mount for a cellphone
Few weeks ago I got a Samsung Google Nexus S with it I got a Platinum case. Any Good car mounts (window or dash) for this kind of cellphone with a phone case?

On side note.
On amazon I already ordered for 7 bucks a car charger for this phone as well a Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh External Battery Pack so because Nexus S battery life sucks with the 4G enabled.

Alright gents I own a X10 which is old news but I am posting to see if any one can explain to me what on earth is a ROM ?/obvious noob alert

I'm 15 and I'm proud to say I don't have a phone! I really don't want/need one because in all honesty kids don't really need them lol.

Im with you both im 12 and dont have one where all my friends and younger kids do have them

Actually I may have to disagree, because mobile phone is very important as I've been in a situation without a phone and it was awful... I've been using mobile phone since I was 6 years old and it was a Philips Twist

Eventhough it was a real damn cheap phone, it helped me in many situations. It's even more important since I don't have a line phone at my house. So when I'm out with my friends, or going anywhere I use my mobile phone to tell my parents where I'm going to so they know where am I without them worrying for me. Also I can call them whenever I need something or in an emergency etc...

However, with issues that kids nowadays are using iPhone 4s, Blackberries and many more super-smart phones are just crazy. Parents nowadays are willing to spend a whole lot of cash for their kids in which they can actually spend them for something else that are much more important (unless if the kid itself purchase it with their own cash, owkey that's cool). I haven't been using smart phone until I was 14 when my parents gave me some sort of an entry level smart phone - a Nokia E63. It was cheap and damn good - upgraded to an E71 as my dad switched to a Blackberry. Now, my parents won't be spending any cash for phone and decided to use my own money to buy my current N97m and now I'm 17.

So what I'm trying to say is, mobile phone actually is very important nowadays.

I had a cell phone when I was 13. I got it for my birthday, and it was just a basic Motorola V360. My parents paid the bill for that until I got a job when I was 14 (my bill was like 10 bucks a month). I had that phone for two years, and I accidentally had it in my pocket when I took it in the lake, and even then it still worked for 2 months after I put it in some rice. After that phone crapped out, my mom gave me her old phone, a basic Samsung flip phone. It's the most durable phone I've ever seen, 7 years old and it still works perfectly, even after dropping it hundreds of times.

In April of 2010, my dad's company switched carriers from Rogers (who I'm with as well) to Telus, and they all got new Telus phones, so he gave me his old Blackberry (Bold 9000), to put my SIM card in and use. I've been using that phone ever since, and now I'm paying 40 a month for it. It's also lasted a very long time, my dad had it for 2 years and I've had it for about a year and a half. The only thing wrong with it is the latch at the bottom which holds the case on the back of the phone. It's broken, so the battery would fall out all the time. To fix the issue, I wrapped a piece of clear hockey tape around it, and I just change it periodically as it gets dirty. Honestly, if I didn't have the Blackberry from Dad, I'd just be using that old Samsung flip phone.

A ROM (for android) is basically like another flavor of android. Android is opensource that means many developers can take android and make it into anything they want. Most developers have decided to create "better" versions of android. Some focus on speed other on battery life. Some roms are also a newer version of android, Most OEMS stop updating the phone so the developes create a rom based off of the newer versions of android. I recommend installing a ROM called Cyanogenmod it will be much better than what is currently on the Sony Ericsson X10 and it is based off of Android 2.3 which is the latest version of android.

Be careful when you are installing a Rom and make sure you get the correct version for your phone.

If you want any help feel free to ask me or PM me.

Damn. Old thread is old.

*blows off dust*

Anyway, I've been holding off this post for 2 weeks now until I found something I didn't like on the Razr, because I made the mistake of posting that piece of 🤬 Sony the day I got it, and regretted it starting the week after. But I just can't find anything bad about this thing.
Anyway, I currently own this:
motorola-releases-source-code-for-droid-razr.jpg

So pretty much everything about the phone is really great. And the stuff that isn't really great is just incredible.

It's got loads of power, and a fast processor, so lag is almost non-existent even when running a lot of apps. The camera quality is fantastic, although getting a focused shot can be difficult with certain lighting conditions. The speakers are all great, audio voice quality is clear, camera audio capture is fantastic for the size of the mic. The 4G speeds are nothing short of incredible, and it manages to maintain a strong connection in places a lot of phones can't. For such a thing, light, thing it feels very solid. And the battery life will likely last you at least a whole day unless you're going heavy on the resource intensive gaming.

And the Super AMOLED display looks fantastic.

And let it be known that even though I have a valid post, it feels weird posting in a 2 month old thread.

Same here. All my friends have a phone, and I am literally one of the 5 kids in my grade without a phone. I really don't find the need for one. There's IM and Facebook, and the Home Phone. I mean, sometimes I do wish I had a phone, but I don't think its worth its cost either. If I need a phone, I'll just borrow one or use a public phone (They text too! 10 cents/ text!)

Also, is it me, or have phones been getting bigger instead of smaller?

Unlimited texting plans for the win. I use thousands a month generally.

Though really, most kids don't need a cell phone. At least not till they can drive. Adults on the other hand kind of need these things, and I'm always a bit baffled when someone even has a land line anymore.

As for size, smart phones are getting larger because people are finding a use for the screens and form factors. There are still plenty of sub 4 inch smart phones on the market though.

I've always thought that phones and actually quite a lot of handheld consumer electronics can only ever get so small before the size becomes a hinderance. Cameras are another one, and look what happened when Apple made that tiny, tiny iPod shuffle; they took a step back with the generation after that.

I have an iPhone 3GS and I personally consider it physically perfect for someone with hands the size of mine, but I find I only use a handful of apps; Twitter, GT Planet, Sudoku and a couple of other casual puzzle games. I have a load of games on here, but I don't think I've finished a single one because this phone is overrated as a handheld games console. As such it's kind of overkill for my needs, but that's fine, I guess it's better than it not being good enough.

Then again being unable to type and walk sucks. Oh and the keyboard and my thumbs argue a lot as to what keys I'm pressing. My brother has an iPhone 4, my dad and sister have a 4GS each and I really don't like the feel of it in my hand, I much prefer the 3GS' rounded edges and back.

It also does the thing where it won't let you unlock it every now and then when you have an incoming call, that is far from useful.

I currently have a Nokia E71 but the size of it in my pocket is annoying me, so I'm in search of a old Motorola Razr v3 now.

The RAZR V3 is probably one of the best Motorola I've ever had (except that mine is the V3i). Looks good, feels good and it is simple like hell! Still have it and it's already 6 years...

About your Nokia, well of course this is just my opinion but the E71 is the most frendliest sized Face QWERTY phone I ever had. It may be heavy because of the metal body but it fits in nicely in my pocket. Now my N97m is bigger, but twice funner.

Still, the V3 never fades...

Anybody remember this ridiculous little thing?

That's why phones aren't getting any smaller.

As for the size of smart phones getting bigger, looking at my phone, I think it's safe to say it's only as big as it needs to be to fit the screen into it, given how thin it is. I wear pants with big pockets, and I enjoy watching movies when I'm out places(Can stream Netflix over 4G), so being able to do so on a 4.3" screen makes the size worth it. It's all down to what you want out of it, though.

I think 4.3" is up there, and any bigger than 4.5" might as well be a tablet, though.

Before colour screens were brought in there were some mobile phones with screens small enough to show 2 lines of text and keys that needed a stylus to press them.

But then colour screens, and the entertainment and practicality of them become increasingly popular and screen sizes grew and now we have touch screen tech the size and quality of a screen is one of the main selling points.

I can't imagine phones will begin to shrink again until we get roll-out flexi-screens that have been demonstrated for a while now. Then I could forsee a phone shaped much like a pen or a 15 cm/6 inch ruler becoming quite possible.

I have one, not too bad if you treat it right. With the right modifications and hacks, it's a decent phone. Shame about Symbian though :indiff:

Mine is... I barely made anything to it other than installing some good applications and theme. Updated to the latest firmware and bloody it's good!

Sure it still lags a little because.. Well it's Symbian. Otherwise it could've been a fantastic phone. The camera performance is awesome with the Carl Zeiss lens. No comment about the resistive screen. Been using it for half a year, an upgrade from E71 and so far it's not a dissapointment.

Since I'm happy with Nokia, my next one will be the Lumia 800 just to go alongside my N97m.

I Have a Nokia N70 with 5 years old  but i will purchase a Nokia C5-03 because my n70 is not working very well
