What Racing Games Are Better than GT5?

If you have a ps2 like I do, thanks to playing gt5 I have been going gang busters on v8 supercars 2 a game that aggravated the pooh out of me lol.

Play some older games and you might find a gem that you think that are better then new games.

I'll take a good bit of older games over the newer ones right now.

In terms of being better than GT5 or anything in that nature then yeah GT4 takes the cake it felt more real than GT5.

While I'm thankful for GT5 giving me 16 cars at once, and a little better A.I and better photo mode.

It doesn't make up for the career mode and the fact Rallying had more factor in GT4 and GT3.

I claim biased comparison because you didn't pick the best of the best from both games. It would be like me doing a video of a FM vs GT sound comparison and slapping titanium exhaust pipes on all the cars in Gran Turismo. And by the way, I did read your whole post.

That was his whole point. You can't just say GT5 is better in the graphics deparment whilst ignoring such a huge chunk of the game that isn't. Yes, when GT5 is looking it's best it looks better than FM, the problem is all of the times when GT5 isn't looking at it's best.

Which racing games are better then GT5?

Does it matter? If GT5 is not good enough people wont buy it or play it.

Until Gran Turismo 5 the GT series had some of the funnest career mode racing there was. When GT5 rolled around Gran Turismo was reduced to heartless and cold PC sim with an ultra weak career mode but great online racing.

Alright, I didn't read a single reply, but I'm sure it must have been discussed plenty, but....

The correct answer is: definitely Forza Motorsport, especially FM4 and even FM3. There are some places where I might give GT5 the nod, but as a total package you can't beat Forza.

Gran Turismo 5 - Honda S2000 Type V '03 at Laguna Seca

Forza Motorsport 3 - 2003 Honda S2000 at Laguna Seca

Gran Turismo 5 - Mazda RX-7 Type RS (FD) '00 at Laguna Seca

Forza Motorsport 3 - 1997 Mazda RX-7

Gran Turismo 5 - Mitsubishi Eclipse GT '06

Forza Motorsport 3 - 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT

That was just some of my old GT5 vs. FM3 photos. I didn't do any for FM4, which looks better.

"But you didn't choose the right cars or tracks from GT5!" 1) I needed something comparable in both games. 2) You don't get to hand-pick the better-looking parts of GT5 and pretend the rest isn't there. The old track models and Standard car models are also GT5, and they count against the graphics.

Oh, and here's a personal favorite. It's an unedited photo straight from GT5. It was taken in the game's own photo mode (during a race replay), exported to XMB, uploaded straight to Picasa, and now displayed straight (unedited) from Picasa.

well done, of course GT5's premium versions look better, but thats the problem with GT5, you can't claim GT5 looks better because the Merc SLS AMG has all the stitches modeled and the rest of the game is the opposite, thats the point he's trying to make here

GT4 or Forza 3/4 imo. Premium gfx and lighting is head and shoulders over anything else but for me thats it. Its owned in every dept compared to say Forza 4.

I wish my DFGT was compatible with the other console..

I had 3 of those consoles and they all fried. But I enjoyed Forza 2 a lot. I remember that game was just FUN. The Livery system was cool, and the auction house thingy was neat and addictive. The racing was very enjoyable. It's like the game had many cool parts to it, so I played it a lot (COD 4 was played a lot too lol)..

Now I'm on my 2nd PS3, I bought GT5 and a DFGT. I want an Xbox and FM4 but don't want to buy another wheel :ouch:

Anyways.. What racing games are better than GT5?

I don't know but if you ask me, I want every racing game out there hehe.

I swear, on that very page, I just asked to not turn this into a GT vs FM thread, as we have three of those. I looked, and yep, I did. If you're going to go in-depth comparing those two, take it to one of those threads.

Also, as a common courtesy to other forum users, if you're going to quote an image-heavy post, please try to cut out some/all of them. We don't need to see the same set of images three times, especially when the response is no more than a line or two.

This, except for the rubbish and crappy ones like Shift 1 and 2.

those scored better than gt5 like everywhere, and are a lot more fun, in my opinion

1.-Forza 4
2.-Forza 3
3.-Shift
4.-Shift 2
5.-GT5

considering only games that fall into the ''sim'' category
in a general racing games category, GT5 falls even deeper in the list

games like Burnout Paradise and NFS MW are more fun than GT5 therefore, better games

oh and the engine sounds of any racing game from this and last generation are better than GT5's, GT really needs improvement there, it's not that it doesn't sound good enough, its the worst sound ever

FM4's Sounds = Over-exaggarated to even sound like the real cars, if I'm honest.

Damage model = Well, if you like more Pre-made impact points than actual real time based, then it's only about a choice, oh and FM4 doesnt have windscreen modelled at all from the cockpit and is invincible and it doesnt have chassis damage.

Car Selection = This is true, but ONLY if you bought the DLC, without those, the list is almost identical with FM3 (without the Porsche)

Career = FM4 is identical with the FM3's career, almost, they took away the endurance races due to the lack of fuel consumption which is made all wrong in FM series.

Graphics = Only blind person can really say FM4 looks better than GT5, cant fool anyone who actually has both.

AI = in FM4 it is certain that AI will ram onto the player car whenever player is braking at the corner, these dont care are you there or not.

Better DLC = Depends, FM4 has received any new track at all, and only DLC cars are really interesting but there is some cars I personally dont understand at all, Jackson's Charger for example.

T10 ahead of PD = IF T10 can ever create tracks, surfaces or cars right then it could happen, but I doubt that will happen before FM X appears.

Sam, owner of the both games.

IMO I don't see how Shift 1 can be better than GT5 when it has very terrible physics, especially in drifting mode. The physics ruin the fun and the game got very boring very quickly for me. For Shift 2, I can't judge it because I haven't played it but from what I've heard and seen, it has very bad physics just like the first one. Evidence:

Well your response might be "Well, don't crash then!". It only takes one wheel going into the grass for the potential of a roll-over crash to happen. And even if a roll-over crash did happen due to one wheel going off-course, it is very unlikely the car will roll as quickly and easily as it does in Shift 2 compared to real life.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want a sim racer, then you would ignore the rankings, as they are usually done by people who look for fun in a game.

That said, GT5 is boring. I'm moving on to iRacing as soon as I get the computer I need.

This is more or less exactly what happens in real life and that GT5 totally fails to potrait. Going sideways on grass and soft dirt/sand (especially) is very dangerous. Hell, even just going sideways at all on asphalt with cars that aren't supposed to be handled like that can be dangerous and quickly lead to rollovers or lifting of 1-3 wheels. Again, in GT5 for some reason these maneuvers are totally safe on any car except when setting weird suspension set-ups with the stickiest tires.

Lmao Burnout Paradise rated better than GT5? Can you even call that a racing game? It won't even let you use a manual transmission for the cars.

Racing games, which aren't always racing simulators. So long as there is racing in the game, then it's a racing game. 💡

It also doesn't have an interior view, but wait, perhaps the actual game is fun.

No, that can't be it.

I've played most of those games, and in terms of fun factor I'd completley agree. Gt5 last place. SP snorefest with annoyingly slow UI.

I've played at least 7 of the games on that Game Rankings list.

GT3-GT5 is 3 of them and that's about right except I thought GT2>GT3 though at least based off this board/forum.

1241Penguin you pretty much nailed it I think people need to hear that again.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit(2010) might not have the graphics or physics blah blah blah that GT5 got but IT'S MORE FUN! Just like GT4 and GT3 they are MORE FUN!

Graphics Wise Wipeout HD/Fury>>>>GT5 I just had to say that my god are those graphics nice.

I can honestly say that after playing GT5 for awhile, it's hard to play NFS:HP.
For one thing, Hot Pursuit is not a racing sim, and any game where a handbrake is simply a tool to gain faster turn in isn't in the same league as GT5 IMO. I don't own an Xbox so I can't say anything for Forza, but one thing I am sure, in my opinion
GT5>GT4>=NFS: Hot Pursuit> NFS: Underground>GT3.
It's not that I didn't like GT3, I just liked it less than NFS:U and WAY less than GT4.

+1

I also want to point out, my first car in GT5 was a Toyota 86-GT, whilst my first car in NFS:HP was a Ford Crown Victoria.
Make your own conclusions.
