Does inaccurate hand movement animation bother you?

  • Yes i want steering wheel degrees to match animation degrees.

  • No. This has been the case with nearly all racing games and i can live with it.

I mean steering wheel input from controller and animation on the screen does not currenly match in any GT5 footage or prologue. GT5 supports 900 degree wheels but animation does not support them. For me this is the only bad thing in cockpit view that really bothers me. Animation is not difficult but only reason might be that when using controller animation would look too jerky. I want an option for 1:1 animation!

So give me you thought if this bothers you or am i just being too anal about this thing :)

Timppaq illustrated issue quite nicely:

^Basically this is what we need, instead we have this:

but for sure the animations will have the full 900deg. turning in the final product.. hopefully then it'll be less distracting.

GT4 had 1:1 animations and they looked ok. Current GT5:P animations look bad compared to GT4 crossing hands etc:

Also animation was fine in GTHD:

They did have a more full animation with crossing hands and everything in the early trailers for Prologue, but they took it out as it didn't work very well at the time.
I can only assume they couldn't get it working to a standard they would prefer and decided to leave it as it is.

Take LFS for example. If GT5 does come out with that feature, I hope its better than what they previously had according to the video Ardius is talking about.

I love LFS because of 1:1 hand animation. It helps me visually to drift better and it also looks good compared to limited animation. LFS does not have this feature as default but players have an option to use it.

Rally racing also looks more authentic with this feature.

I would need 1:1... to be honest, for serious racing, I would use bumper cam... cockpit view would just be a nice extra, for maybe a fun drive or something. To me, from what I've seen in screenshots, the view of the road just looks too small, so I'll stick to bumper cam thanks very much!

Having a 900 degree wheel, but 200 degree animation would screw me up. I'm fine with 900 degree animation and 200 degree control - like in GT4 when you set your wheel to 200 and put the steering indicator on - but the other way around would just be tremendously offputting.

I dont exactly know what your on about but one thing that worries me it that GT4 had those beautiful fluid hand movements on convertables where the driver would cross his hands etc... it looked so genuine.

Now they have gone back to hands glued to the wheel which looks terrible. I cannot understand why PD who basically pioneered these fluid hand movement animations have removed them!!

Robin.

They did have them in an early version of GT5P... exactly the same ones from inside the cockpits in GT4. But, they only really looked good from the outside... inside, it just looked extremely dodgy.

There's a thread about it somewhere, I think.

Of course I'd like to see full 900 degree wheel movement, but I can understand it might be hard to implement (e.g. make it sync properly with the gear shifting animation). So yes, I can live without it.

I love how the right hand does a Bodyguard-style leap at 0:31

This is from TGS 2007... there are also more, just look in the related videos when it ends. They start with "TGS 2007" of course.

:)

Seems like over half of the people think this is a serious issue and it has to be fixed or at least give us an alternative.

I can live with it, even as an onboard view user in GT5:P, but in my opinion when using the basic Dualshock I'll admit, it doesn't look like the animation is going far enough. This is very noticeable in the long bends like Suzuka's 130R.

I'd like full 900 degree rotation hand movement, likewise I'd like more options to adjust G25/G27 steering angle.

If if doesn't have 1:1 steering, I'd rather not have a visable wheel at all.

Thanks, didn't remember those on board vids. Why did they took it away!? It looks great for god's sake! :ouch:

I prefer bumper/bonnet cam angles, I find cockpit view distracting.

Plus why waste CPU/GPU power on something so frivolous?

Is there some way in the game settings for YOUR steering wheel to change the linearity and make it so turning YOUR wheel past the 90 degrees (to the left or right) that the wheel does on the screen doesn't turn the wheels any more? In other words, make turning YOUR wheel 90 degrees to the left fully max out steering to the left? I know, that takes away from having a 900 degree wheel but in reality, most racing series that I watch (NASCAR, IRL, F1) don't turn their wheels any more than that on track. They have their steering boxes made to turn their wheels to the angle they need with less than 100 degrees of input.

There are some racing games that have 2 - 3 cockpit angles.

One GT5P style, where you see hands and wheel,
Tow, where cam is placed on the middle of the dashboard.
Three,, where cam is placed where the wheel is, you see a bit of guages or just top of driver side dashboard.
GT needs that and I won't complain about hands not turning wheel 899 degrees ; )

I'm just saying if you're racing your car on track at speed, you won't be turning the wheel 900 degrees in a turn. That's whats not realistic. Doesn't matter what kind of car it is, you won't need to turn the wheel that much to make the turn. Also, at any speed over 80, trying to pull your wheel a full 180 (making the wheel completely upside down) would take a decent amount of upper body strength to A. Turn it in the first place, B. Be able to hold on without a full racing harness as the G's you would feel (if the front tires kept grip) would be fairly high.

Yes matching hands but without the HUD on the cockpit view :nervous::ouch:
That map and all those times are so annoying!
Imagine no text on the screen! :sly:
