What's your $250,000 dream garage?

Does it have to be £150k worth of strictly just cars or parts too? I'd love to spend £150k converting my Mondeo to an RS Cosworth. Everything - complete engine, transmission, drivetrain, suspension, the lot.

Basically, I'd spend it all on building something Ford should have done a long time ago.

Sure, you can do that!

^A 2004 Powerstroke, this will only end in tears...

The only diesels I liked from Ford were the ones from the International years. Powerstrokes were never anything fantastic. Though I'm not a diesel fan either.

If it were me, I'd probably get these:

1970-1971 Ford Torino 351 Cleveland with 4V Aussie Heads and 3.91 rear
1969 Mustang Boss 429 (provided I can find one cheap, which I doubt)
1985 F250 4x4, I want another one
1968 Mustang 428 SCJ

2013 BMW 335d Coupe (E92)
New
$165.000

2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE
Used (142 kms)
$76.700

1982 Opel Manta GTE
Used (172 kms)
$3300

Grand total: $245.000

Obviously the 335d is eminent for all kinds of driving, whether you need a grand tourer or just personal transport, but you can always use the security of having a Range Rover standing by if you need more space or towing ability. The Manta is just a fun little classic that can be had for nothing, and I've always had a sweet spot for these Rüsselsheim rockets.

I'd get a bike (1198s), a fast but comfortable commuter(M3) and a utility car(F150 SVT). Pretty sure they don't add up to $160k even.

Well, let's see.

MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR. € 16,990, I'll just go with 20 grand to include a custom black/red paintjob, just as pictured below.

101812-2013-mv-agusta-brutale-1090.jpg

Nissan/Datsun S30Z, € 27,000 for a Z in good condition. With all the necessary modifications (including an LS7 if I had it my way), I'd probably be looking at ~ € 60,000. Should look something like the Z below.

tumblr_lyyflaGbHz1qjjrxvo1_1280.jpg

tumblr_lyyflaGbHz1qjjrxvo2_1280.jpg

Alpina B3 Biturbo, based on the F30 3 Series. About € 15,000 more than the 335i it's based on, which would put it at roughly € 60,000.

Screw that first first thought about the F350! I totally forgot we've got the RAM 3500 with the Cummins Diesel available, for somewhere around 40 grand, too!

That leaves me with about € 47,000. That's enough to get myself a Ford F350 6.4 Powerstroke. You know, to haul stuff and stuff.

So basically, my post >_>

I must say, as a US domestic car fan, that is the absolute sexiest S30Z I've ever seen in my life.

I owned one.....first thing I would do would be to go under the hood and swap in a 351 Cleveland. Pipes out the back would make that thing BANGIN'. And the best part is, I could buy a restored one (needs paint, that's it) very, very cheap, in town. The other thing I would do is move those damn mirrors onto the door. I hate them being so far down the hood.

I also have a Windsor block in my shed.....hmm...I might actually take that up now that I think about it. Especially as I can get paint stupid cheap thanks to a 57% discount and no labor charge.....

That's our 180% vehicle tax working its magic (nearly 200% with VAT). It is by far the most expensive country in the EU for car buyers. If I remember correctly, Portugal has the second-highest vehicle tax at 80%.
Well, if you want, you can have tax as extra outside the allowance. I doubt anyone else factored in tax, I know I didn't. :)

Wait, so this is $250000 in our own currency... Bugger...

Why must this be so cruel! I bet there would be enough money for one in US dollars or Euro's.

But to do this properly.

Used 2012 Audi A7 for $108,890.

Used 2006 Lotus Exige for $67,900

Used 2009 BMW Z4 $54,800

And then with extra money, will be incase I want a motorbike or ATV at a later date.

Feel free to convert the amount into your currency if it means you can buy more/better cars.

250k US would be 300k NZ, I think. Curious that the SLS is so much more expensive there than in Europe or North America.

👍

Yeah, it's one of the best examples I've found so far. The owner got the balance bweteen 'improving' the car's lines and not going over the top right, which makes the car stand out so much, I think. It also looks perfectly driveable, not just like a show car.

Now, thinking about it... It would probably be much, much cheaper to just buy the Z in the US and have it shipped to Europe. Especially if it's ordered alongside a nice, big V8 :sly:

Not terribly interested in supercars. At least not those within that price range (which is about 1.5m short of a McLaren F1...)

My garage looks like this:

suzuki-jimny-club-06.jpg

Suzuki Jimny, with a lift, big tires and a snorkel.

2010387371_ESCORT_MK12NV_035.JPG

Mark I Escort (I know the Mark 2 is better, but I just love the looks of the older car) with an SR20 and suspension swap.

100_1109.JPG

A Honda D15B powered Mini. So it looks good, turns on a dime, and actually accelerates. Why a 130 horse 1.5 instead of the 170 hp B16? Because it's cheaper, leaves room in my budget for other stuff, and is small enough so that you can fit air-conditioning. That's the most important part. (A local guy has a swap kit with an AC bracket)

One obviously needs a stock car for a daily driver:
29736302.jpeg

Mazda2. B-Spec is showroom stock, right?

2007_Ford_Ranger_2.jpg

Since I have a lot of modified junk up there, I need a tow vehicle. The Ranger Diesel is great for towing or burnouts or both, in whichever degree you like, and it can even follow the Jimny rig some ways off-road, if need be.

Seeing as how I really need a sportscar to go with all of the above... I could get a V8 Miata, but I'm torn between getting an NC, with its better chassis rigidity and available "almost-a-coupe" PRHT variant:
162.jpg

...or simply an NA with the "Flyin' Miata" kit:
ls2-v8-miata-68-albums-lee-s-ls2-miata-6-picture-overview-49.jpg

But in the end, I would probably just settle for one of these:
38721580001_large.jpg

with a motorbike motor, because it's cheaper. (starting to see a trend, here...)

As for an actual motorbike:
royal-enfield-bullet-classic-efi-army_2.jpg

It's not very fast, it doesn't carve all that well, and it sounds like a tractor, but who gives a damn? It looks fantastic. And for days when I want to take my kid along:
Sidecar-Royal-Enfield-Black-Pearl-Military-6.jpg

Yes, I will be buying an open helmet and aviator goggles for this.

Figure as long as I don't go for carshow finish on the older cars, I've still got about $50-80k left over (our taxes here suck). Which I would spend on gasoline and tires. I figure I'll be able to rip through a $1k set of Advan Neovas with the Miata every two weeks.

VTEC Mini by Murcie_LP640, on Flickr

As for mine, $250,000 will give me these:

Daily Driver:

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG

As it's just me and the GF to take round practicality isn't that much of a concern for a daily driver. So my daily driver is a V8-powered luxury convertible. You may ask why, I ask: why not? It's soft enough and has the features to live with everyday, loads of torque for my 99% city driving, it looks fantastic to my eyes and you can take the roof off.

Specifically, I'd pick up this demonstrator model here:

122639610.jpg

On Carsales for $139,990 driveaway.

Track Toy:

This is a little more difficult as first preference would put me over budget (2010+ Nissan GT-R). So I went and found the next best thing. An R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II N1, that won Targa Tasmania outright in 2005:

11436027.jpg

So with that and the SLK, there's $30,000 leftover for which I'm going to use on a motorcycle...this is of course if I ever decided to get my bike license. To be fair I'm not an aficionado with two-wheeled machines but I absolutely love the looks of the Ducati Streetfighter S. Which also happens to be a pretty badass name.

2010-ducati-streetfighter-14.jpg

I'd toss the entire 250k in fixing up old cars. I've always wanted to do a track-toy AMC Javelin with Trans Am flavor, with the entire bollocks, new-gen HEMI with custom fuel injection with the injectors poking out of the hood, widened fenders, slicks, 11-inch-wide Minilites, 6-speed, maybe I'd dump the 250k in just that car.

Or maybe I wouldn't go as overboard with the Jav and save a bit of cash to build another old car as a classic and basic street rod daily driver. A 1940 Ford or a 1959 Impala wagon tickles my fancy.

1. I would buy Audi S7 (New 80K$):

2013-audi-s7_100408349_m.jpg

2. I have always liked 64 Mustangs so i would buy one (Used 25K$):

64_Mustang_Wallpaper.jpg

3. Mazda RX7 with Veilside Fortune body kit has been always my favourite car so i would buy Mazda RX7 and equip it with Veilside Fortune body kit. And off course i would do for it engine mods, change the interior and other stuff (Build it myself 60K$).

RX-7.jpg

4. Everybody needs a SUV so my choice will be Range Rover Sport HSE (New 60K$)

land-rover-range-rover-sport-hse-3-6tdv8-auto-5274006-1.jpg

5. Everybody needs a porche so my choice will be 911 Targa (Used 20K$):

Total Price: 245
