What's your Dream Car, and are you pursuing it?

1985-86 Lancia Delta S4: No, I'd have to sell both of my kidneys just to afford the buying price, the repair costs and to make it not a death trap? I don't want to begin to think of the bill.

The 037 and Stratos both fall into the same category.

As I grew older, I just want to settle with something simple. But the road conditions here isn't convinient for that car sadly so I have to stop dreaming.

For many years my dream car was an R32 GT-R. I've been lucky enough to ride in a few and drive a few of them, and i'd still really love one - but they are just WAY too expensive now that the USA can import them (gone from $20k NZD to $50k-$100k+ NZD) so that dream is likely to only be a dream now.

My second dream car, and still current, is the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. Fell in love with it while watching the roof fold itself away at a car show in 2006 or so. Last (?) year i came extremely close to buying the exact one below (i was in contact with the owner, and getting insurance/finance quotes) but i figured that it would not only take all of my savings to buy, but also i'd have to take out a small loan. And given this car is notoriously expensive to fix things like the magnetic ride suspension, automatic folding roof and other electrical gremlins, i opted to can the idea and spend that money on the house instead. :(
Plus, i actually want the car in the bright red colour it comes in.

As for my ultimate dream car, it has only ever been the Ferrari F50. Don't care what colour. I fell in love with it when Dad first showed me pics of it in 1995, and since then not a single other car on the planet has come close to topping it as my ultimate dream car.
Extremely annoyed though that their prices are increasing a stupid amount, so it too is looking highly unlikely i'll ever get it.

So basically, they'll remain dream cars. Luckily games like Gran Turismo feature them (hoping PD bring back the SL55 too) so i can still get some enjoyment from their existence.

As I've got older, I've realised that finding the money to buy the dream car is only half the battle. You have to house it somewhere, and look after it. And then when you drive it somewhere, you want people to see it, think "hmm, that's nice" then get on with their day. Nobody keying it or slashing the tyres. Nobody wanting to race you at the lights or on the motorway. Not being stopped for 30 minutes every time you put fuel in it.

You'd also want to be able to actually use it for something. So you'd need to be able to put some stuff in it, you'd need a roof for when it inevitably rains (as it does where I live, at least). You'd need to be able to leave it somewhere without panicking about it being stolen while you're having lunch. You'd need it to start when you wanted to take it out of the garage and - more importantly - start when

So, while my ultimate car is a McLaren P1, I'm not sure I could ever really be bothered with it.

I'm starting to think that my dream car is one of these:

I've been for a ride in an SLS soft top along the local motorway a few years back. You'll never tire of hearing that exhaust note! And i was amazed at the ability you have to have a normal conversation at 100km/h with the roof down, so no complaints about wind noise in that car.

To be fair though, that was the first convertible i'd been in.
