Where are all the cars!

Not talking about all cars from these manufacturers but you are telling me you would not like any cars from them? Why are you defending a company that is making a game that will cost $60 and even though it looks gorgeous I would rather have 30 more cars and 10 less tracks, again project cars!

You do know you have a licence/agreement/contract to use any manufacturers products in video games. These things cost money. Money that SMS obviously doesn't have.

Oh BTW, the CARS part in the title stands for Community Assisted Racing Simulator, it's doesn't mean there will be a GT like crap load of cars to drive

Good point mate! And i remember myself before i quickly got bored of the Gran Turismo games, i only ever raced maybe 70 or 80 of the 600+ cars available.... To me this was always not necessary to have so many cars, the majority of which were old bangers with no performance! Bring on Project CARS with the beautifully created, modeled and accurate performance that each car has! Can't wait.... 17 days........ tick......tick.....tick....... :D

Remember GT1 'only' had ~130 cars and to say they were biased to Japanese brands would be an understatement. We will get a good selection of distinct cars from all eras with the initial release. Some of them are virtually exclusive, at least in this quality and level of accurate simulation. There is a lot in the Pipeline and me, having put in about 600 hours already, are not even starting to get bored, neither with the Car List, nor with the Track List.

I understand that you need licensing and it cost money but is SMS not making the game to make money? I want a quality game and I don't want 600 cars but I think that 150 is a good number and with the fact of having multiple cars that are the same yea I agree that's dumb, but the point of playing a game like this is to enjoy the cars and after you play for so many hours including online you will want more choices. And if they are going to add more cars with DLC than fine. But what is wrong with wanting more cars and still have quality for the money?

There does seem to be a good deal of exclusive cars in PCARS, especially the Lykkan Hypersport and the whole GT4 roster which aren't in any other games ATM.

@Russ15 This is their first game, give them a break about the small car list. Not like you aren't spoiled for choice. Almost every car make you need is in here.

Driveclub has the Lykan. :)

The point of playing this game is to win races. You're getting confused with other games. Even the single player element in PCars is a racing career. I guess it's just what you want from a game, whether you're a pure racer or a car lover or a bit of both, like most here. I am a racer, I'd race a box on wheels if I had to. And enjoy it too!

First things first, on a limited development budget, it is probably wiser to try establish the new franchise on it's engine rather than it's car count. If it is good enough of a platform (and that include tracks) it can potentially ease the licensing negotiation with right holders, and if it attracts enough of an audience some manufactures may even consider it a viable product-placement alternative...

PCars has the McLaren P1, which is nowhere near to appear in GT6, maybe 7 or 8, who knows.

I really hope this game gets good revenues so a PCars 2 can be released.

I guess less cars means more time and effort put into each car making them better for you.

True, but a line must be drawn somewhere. Remember, this is not a professional simulator made for a specific racing team who need inch-perfect replicas of its cars for training. It is a game targeting both casual and hardcore demographics, a balance of variety and accuracy would be recommended.

"The car count is fine in my opinion too. However, none of us can deny that it's missing some of the more 'important' manufacturers that are also popular requests by fans."

Sure there is always that one or two cars you might love but miss in the game.

Only one or two cars? For someone who likes cars in general, that's quite the understatement, in fact, there are quite a few great automotive manufacturers missing from this list, as stated by other posters, like the one you quoted.

Saying that though some of the cars in PC are looking a bit lonely, the M1, the Sauber C9, the DTM car etc, they need some friends to play with.

Another thing about PCARS' list, some cars are quite lonesome in their class. Liveries alone don't cut it for me. Racing championships gain more popularity when variety of machinery is present. The WEC is a fine example of this.

Honestly, the car count is irrelevant. The car content is what's important.

This, pretty much. PCARS' amount (for release) isn't bad, but the content is somewhat lacking.

The point of playing this game is to win races.

Not exactly. You see, PCARS doesn't make you race for prizes like XP or cash or unlocking new cars. Everything is available to you from the beginning. There's no need to win anything to see all the content the game has to offer. You could say this is one of those games in which, literally, it's not the winning but the taking part that's the most important.

Please, how many cars and tracks does Driveflub have? Yes I said Driveflub!

Not wanting to bring other games into this discussion, but allow me to say a few things in response here: Driveclub can't be compared to PCARS. PCARS focuses more on race cars, Driveclub more on road cars. PCARS focuses more on track (as in proper racing facility) racing, Driveclub focuses more on road-racing (racing on closed public roads). With regards to road cars Driveclub demolishes PCARS, same thing goes for its impressive public roads to race on (PCARS only has 2 locations of this kind compared to Driveclub's 6).

It's the first game they are doing independently (AFAIK) so cut them a little slack. Not like they are paired up with Sony or MS with a huge multi million dollar budget.

I am excited about the game and to have all the tracks is great but I thought the game is called project cars not project tracks? Where is Lamborghini, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan maybe, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Lexus, Pontiac, SRT, Subaru, Volkswagen? Is it just me or is there a lot of good cars missing?
The car list is limited for several reasons, the biggest reason being the very small budget SMS has to develop the game. Unlike Gran Turismo, Forza, and other games where SEVERAL million dollars are allocated to just car licences which is why they have Lambos, Ferraris, Nissans, etc. Also, games like GT are focused on having lots of cars and not necessarily the quality/realism of them. Project Cars is focused on perfection for every car that is in the game, that being said, it takes a lot more time and resources per car. The game itself has a great variety of cars anyway. There are all kinds of Formula cars, GT3, GT4, LMP 1&2, karts, and even street cars! Also, there is more cars to be added post release! This leads to another point, Project Cars is a racing simulator, which is partially why there is a focus on "race cars" rather than street cars.

While GT is a driving game which is why there are more street cars and more fictional tracks.

I realize their hands are pretty much tied because of their budget at the moment, so there isn't much more they can do right now to improve their shortcomings. That being said, the game has great potential for the future and I'm counting on SMS to deliver. My recommendations are targeted more at what the game should become at the end of its support cycle, rather than what it should be now. I hope its sales are good enough to allow it to evolve in great ways and I have already given my first contribution to this by pre-ordering the title.

Well, if PCARS sells well then PCARS2 will probably have a much broader car list.

more tracks over here too.
I own the game, waste of money, played it 5 times. Haven't played it in months.
I dunno, it will have give me about 5 months of enjoyment and wheel practise before pCARS releases. pretty happy with that. Driveclub isn't a terrible game really.

I understand the consternation over the limited car list but it's really just a budget thing and there's nothing to be done about it before launch. The budget for this game is less than 1/10th the announced budget of GT5 for example and it launched with only 220ish premium cars and a whole bunch of PS2 content including many of the tracks. The game is what it is, if the car list doesn't appeal to you it won't likely change substantially for some time, or perhaps into PCars 2, if it happens.

I know console players hate to hear this, but this is a "sim", and sims traditionally don't have large car lists. Don't quote me, but PCars might even have the largest car list of any sim at launch.

I haven't played many sims but rFactor had about 30 cars (I think), GTR2 had about 20, RACE 07 had about 20 (Not including DLC) with about 70 with DLC and GT LEGENDS had about 30.

Did you read anything from the last page? Of course we would like those cars, but SMS have a tight budget.

And please do not make the whole "$60 for an empty game" argument when:

A. This is one of the most advanced games ever in terms of physics engines- SMS probably worked harder on simulating air pressure than PD simulating an entire car. This is a case of astonishing quality over quantity.

B. both driveclub and the crew launched with around 50 cars. But it's okay for them?

A. Damn right they did, I've just read the Physics wiki for PCARS and pretty much everything on the real cars are simulated to be as close to real life as possible.
B. I know right? Arcade games can have 50 cars but PCARS need 200 plus?

The thing with those two games that you must also remember is the development of the cars must have been hundreds of times easier than pcars (well, this extent for the crew at least, I do respect that driveclub's cars are modelled immaculately) and yet, of the three, PCARS has the most.
