I personally like rap. I don't understand how people can come and claim rap to not be music, or not have as much talent as some other genre of music.
The fact is rap music rymes more then any other genre, it's faster paced, more upbeat, and a helluva lot easier to dance to then any other genre.
I just.....people make accusations asumptions and prejudices against rap and rappers but they don't back it by any logical reason. People simply say it's not music but don't give a reason.

I dunno I just think it's weird.
 
Mainstream rap is not music. Underground rap is though.

For instance, Ja Rule has absolutely no talent in anything, while Jungle Brothers do.
 
All kinds of rap are pure ****, its not music...the day they learn to pick up a decent instriment and play it, is the day I will call them musicians...
 
Ever age has its own music what I like and what my kids like and what my father liked is all very differnet ..and differnet contries each have there own tastes but one of the test for music is the test of time eg. classical has been around for years and even less time is Rock n Roll .but when you have artistists that have been in the buisness for 40 years and are still a going and have a following by more than one generation of people they must be doing something right lets see where Rap is in 40 years time

I don't think that. Rap has a very big impact on the ppl who love rap. Those ppl think rock n roll has no impact like rap did.
It just has no impact on you, because you don't like it.
It just depends on your musical taste.

You can't dance to that, most of the junk I've heard has a varying beat, and if you tryed to dance to it you'd look stupid...
 
You ****in *****es. Rap is the ****. Its alot harder than any other genre. Try singing a rap song throughout the whole song, u actually have to memorize spots were u have to breathe or else u have to stop or make a pause where u shouldn't, all the other genre's u can breathe whenever. It takes a **** load of talent to write a rap song.

Maybe u like to waltz or whatever, i like getting my crotch rubbed by a girls ass! And thats the way u dance to rap!
 
Rap is my favorite genre of music. About the only other song you'll ever find me listening to that's from another genre is Megadeath's Symphony of Destruction.




I'm also going to have to agree with Klos on this one.:) The underground rap is about the only kind that's good. The "rap" you hear on MTV & BET is GAY.
 
The only thing i want, is for MTV to quit playing rap videos 24/7.

And Adelphia Cable to be bought out/Fall off the earth/Go bankrupt/ etc etc would be nice also
 
Troy, try singing a Nelly song, and then try singing a KoRn or Slipknot song, holding the notes too ! you'll see which is hard ;)

You must have a totally different MTV than we have here. See, here we don't have a problem with MTV playing too much rap; we have a problem with them playing too much WWF crap, dating shows, game shows, and tons of other shows about stuff other than music.



I think that they only play about a good solid hour of music per 24 hour period...:rolleyes:
 
i think that people who hate rap are crackers with no culture (not specially crackers), why would you wanna say that rappers have no style, i would like to see anyone try to make up a song out of nothing in 5 minutes, and unlike rock you don't hear some ****3r yelling and sending satanic messages to kids, like i call rock Devil Music 'cause that's what it sounds like
 
Puffy, we never said that they have no style, we said that they have little or no talent...get it right next time.

What really gets on my nerves is all of the "huh" "yea" "Whu" "ahuh" that they add randomly in the song...like they are agreeing with the main sing....uhh talker...
 
Maybe some of you should not listen to MTV rap. And listen to some quality rap where the rapper indeed has talent.

Go download "Jungle Brothers - Brain."

If you are going to judge rap by what Nelly, Ja Rule, Puff Daddy [*gasp* P. Diddy], and Jay-Z, and Fat Joe do then by all means just paint "ignorant" on your forehead.

If you are telling me that by not using an instrument they have no talent then what about lead singers such as Maynard Jmes Keenan of Tool who does not play an instrument. Is he untalented?
 
Simon Tibbett, if you are so ignorant to the fact that one of man's greatest instruments is his voice.....just don't say anthing alrighty ;)

i personally only like "old school" rap. I don't like half of the new stuff. All's i'm saying, and my point to starting the thread, is, everyone who dislikes or thinks rap is distasteful, is completely ignorant to the actual talent that goes into writing, and rapping rap songs. Who in the community of GT Planet can speak/rap as fast as busta rymes? Can free style as poignant as undergrounders?

I also personally think that rappers are one up on rock n roll singers. Rock n rollers can sing and scream. Everyone can scream, some people can sing.

Rappers can carry a certain vibe in their voice that gives them a stylistic speaking, or rapping, which they can do at a slow solemn pace, or at an unspeakably fast pace. And they can also sing. Not everyone can rap, not everyone can sing.

That's my argument. Oh, and music is in the eye of the beholder. If you think it's standardized, then the only logical conclusion we could come to, is that music is created with notes, that hold a specific value for how long they should be played. And these notes must be played on an instrument. There ya go.

Heard all kinds of rap, from mainstream to underground...its all **** !

And rap stars dont sing, they talk, rock stars who sing are talented, so dont get me started...

and unlike rock, rap give kids messages to smoke crack, deal drugs, beat women, steal cars, and be a dumb ass homie. much like yourself i would assume. :rolleyes:
