Why are people starting to hate GT5?

I love Gran Turismo, 5 being my most favorite. What I do hate about it is theres no Inactive auto kick for people who always leave themselves in a lobby and go to sleep or work or where ever. Leaving others to suffer with a boring track or some jerk who wants to cause problems. Then theres the 420 obsessed people who feel they MUST advertise that they are a pothead.. no one cares.. But other than that.. I was hoping GT5 would keep having DLC tracks like every month or something. More and more tracks. I don't care if my harddrive gets like full from just DLC courses. like 200gbs worth of DLC just for GT5 lol. It certainly would make me happy.

Good gravy who resurrected this thread? It was a silly trolling question a year ago, and it's even more silly now a year later to be talking about people "starting to hate GT5". For pity's sake, if you're bored with it - take a break, or move onto something else. Lots of people do. I don't play for a few months at a time when I have other stuff going on. And then I come back and remember what I actually love.
Sure everyone has complaints of things about GT5 that are less than ideal or not to everybody's specific likings. But this is different than a lot of games for a lot of people. For example, I really don't play any other PS3 games. It's all about the cars for me. And racing with pals who like to race the kind of cars & tracks & type of racing I like.
So basically... if you're hating it:
Either move on or take a break.
Or check out the online section if you can do online racing, and see that there's a lot of cool ideas people have for racing in GT5. You're not doomed to only do seasonals.
People were not starting to hate it in droves a year ago, and they're not hating it in droves now. I think there's still people playing gt4 for pity's sake.
Look in the other thread where people are getting all worked up & exited about the possibility of a Juke being offered. :sly:

@ Miharuhi - I too would like to see more tracks offered. Seattle or that seaside rally track with the great hairpins or the cobblestone european city track ... from gt4... Or more options for making custom tracks.

But most of your complaints seem like they aren't about the game but belong in this thread

(Worst you've dealt with online... )

I hate the fact that you need an Internet connection to play the game. You can't buy the formula without Internet? It's great that there is races that gets updated every now and then, but I still hate the fact that every game today it's 50% online. It's not a big deal but 800 (all standard cars) out of the 1000 cars the game has, I hate that they are just copies from gt4. Fx. I got a Subaru without doors? When you race and got damages on and chrash, it looks like it is melted. And there missing some good car customizations. You can only change rims and colour.

Main reason: HAX!!!!
On the contrary, creating hybrids, especially the realistic kinds (e.g. 20B in a Miata) is what made the game fun again for many. For example:
I had to get into hybriding to find this game interesting again.

...though there's no doubt that some are getting peeved that they can't play online without running into a million horsepower X1.

I never thought about the realistic ones. I've seen some R26B RX-7's & RX-8's.:dopey:

Well, you should see my R32, wingless, Angled exhaust, slammed, RB26; the sound is just 🤬 good. It's very hard to drift though but it's worth it. Too much wheel spin even though it only has 650hp.

So this is the way I see it; Us Gen1 folks that grew up playing this from the launch of the game know how amazing the base model game is.

The young bucks out there that grew up with GT4 and GT5 don't know how fun this game is playing offline, experimenting, playing next to family and friends, sneaking your memory card to school so you can trade cars with friends, buying a screen to put on your PS so you can play it in the car on long road trips, idolize your favorite cars as they are shown in Initial D and playing them in game, making home made Tape recorded videos of your gameplay to save for posterity, and buying said games and systems repeatedly over time so you can relive the nestalgia.......

Ok I'll breath. This game is deeper than its ever been and the younger folk, under 21 I'm guessing, really did not get the same experience. We will continue being happy with nearly anything and everything GT and playing online with friends is ok, but still nothing beats sitting down with buddies playing Gran Turismo and GT2 with NON Dual Shock controllers.

Blah, I'm rambling too, but us rusty nails know who we are.

I'm 42 and have bought every GT title on launch day and while I don't 'hate' GT5, I do find it very, very lacking in regard to both the heritage of the series and in particular in regard to its contemporary peers.

For me the simple truth is that PD dropped the ball on GT5 in a big way, its a bloated mess, with little to no focus, missing or incomplete features (that it should have this gen) and despite a massive development times was still released in an very incomplete form.

So I have to disagree, its got nothing to do with the age of the player or how much they 'understand' GT as a series, and has everything to do with PD and the product they released.

I'm 19 years of age, I've played every Gran Turismo and loved them all. Gran Turismo has been my childhood, the only time my Gran Turismo disc left my PS1/2 was when I got the next in the series.

So I very much disagree with you about "Not understanding" and how "Knowing how amazing the base model game is" makes GT5 any better than what it is.

Now don't get me wrong, I still love GT5 despite it's glaring flaws but I'm sore and disappointed with Polyphony for producing less than what I know they're capable of. It's disappointing that a company I grew up in love with slipped up to such a degree and left a sour taste in my loyal mouth.

UrieHusky and Scaff, I can totally see your point. Bet you don't hate the game though! I was relieved when it finally was released because I needed a change of pace.

Bloated... Yes, Lack of Focus... Absolutely

I don't think people are "Starting" to hate on GT5 as the OP said, I think we hated pieces of it from the get go. New Console, waste of time and $$ on GT5 Prolouge which built anticipation for what.... A failure.

Do you Agree or Disagree that if GT5 was the first in the series you would not have become as connected to the game? I agree with that statement. It is very lacking to what GT1-3 possessed. 4 started to lose it in my opinion (the intangeables of the game).

This being said, I did yell at the game for 30 minutes trying to somehow catch a pesky 2J that got a mile jump in a 5 lap race with overly agressive AI that somehow started the race on my right side.... Grr, brings back some feelings when I finally beat it.

I outright said that I love it regardless.. so... y'know.

Can you honestly say that you weren't disappointed? that after so many years of development, this is what we were given?

Like I said, I love Polyphony, I love GT, I love GT5. But it's still a mess of a game and no amount of nostalgia or brand loyalty can make that fact go away.

Bloated... Yes, Lack of Focus... Absolutely

I wouldn't call it bloated, it definitely lacks focus though.

I disagree. Over time the issues that were minor annoyances in the beginning slowly start irritating you more in more.
Like driving a very long distance with a strange rattle or beeping in your car, at first it doesn't bother you; you can ignore it. But after 3 hours you're getting irritated. Then by 6 hours you're pulling over trying to figure out what on earth is making the noise.

A strange analogy but I'd imagine you can get what I mean.

Maybe? Put it this way; I'm glad GT5 isn't my first experience with Gran Turismo. However it's not awful, just disappointing. Lackluster. Could have been better. That's why it grates with me so much.

And despite all of this? I play it every. single. day. and love it for what it is.
