Why are they keeping the Stiff Chase Cam?

GT3 chasecam was my personal favorite. I hate the fixed cam. I just looks very strange when you want to steer into a corner or control a slide. It's far from natural. Would be nice if they gave us the option between both chasecams.

Current GT5 chasecam is perfect imo, not too fixed (I've tested it just now, 3 laps in a 350Z), you can still see the car wobble a bit before the camera rotates. I can make perfect apex smoothly and it feels responsive.

Some also say the car is too tiny, but I disagree.. if the car is closer (and bigger) then it would block the view.

Maybe some of you want it like this:

It may be great for spectators, I used to love looking at that car in the arcade when I was still in highschool 15 years ago..
For playing I prefer the stiff one, but the last time I've played using chasecam was in my first days playing GT2.

it is standart in every racer nowadays, but GT not...

Things are done differently for different tastes, just because you don't like something it doesn't mean it has to change for everybody else. There are plenty of choices with the perfect chase cam that it is not GT for you to choose from.

I hate the chase cam used in GT4, GT5 and what looks like in GT6. All are too stiff and i havnt used them since they changed. And i also think its the worst chase cam i have ever experienced in a racing game bar test drive 4.
The Original Gran Turismo 1 has the best angle and view. Gt2 was different but ok. Gt3 was the same as GT2.

The perfect chase cam. Hell, the perfect racing game. Time to go break out my Saturn for a couple hours...
Yeahh!! I'm still left wondering how they could make such a great rally game with incredible 3D graphic at that time!! it was the era of SNES, and the big arcade machine even rumble when the car enters gravel part (if I remember correctly), and the steering wheel was much more advanced than my plasticy DFGT, using belt system I believe, it was smooth and the force feedback was so accurate and very strong.. and it was 15+ years ago... it was so fun drifting in that game!

In that case, give us options like @Tornado said. I've said it from the start, options, options, options. But nooo...

well, they should at least let you move the camera with the right analog stick. instead of mapping the throttle to it

Why do you want to rotate the camera? The track is right in front of you... if you don't spun there is

Exactly. Full rotation with the right analog stick like GTAIV and GTAV etc.
I was going to say this in an earlier post but I had a. Feeling that's where it would be going....

However, I use the right analog as my shifter, up for up, down for down. Left and right wise.... I got nothing, but I think I might use those for the R18 just to have it all down....

Maybe for some RA sensitivity but idk..

To me being able to rotate the chase cam around the car is just so far out there it is beyond words. I could not imagine why they would add such a thing in a racing game and surely am not sad that Gt doesn't do it. You can't drive looking at the side of the car you have to see where you are going. This is a driving/racing game rather than a walk around your car while in a race game.

GTA while popular with many is not even close to a good driving game. After having heard a lot of people bragging about it I tried it for a while and could not believe how lame it was. I definitely did not see anythign about it that I would want in my racing games

There is a hilarious double standard in regards to perceived standards of realism here.

Can anyone else spot it?

And how is that?

When I drive a real car mostly what I see is hood and road. I just got back from a 2 hour drive and I paid attention to what I could see and ironically I could not see that much headliner even when I stopped and titled my head back a bit to look at the roof. in my normal FOV maybe 6 inches of headliner visible in my car, not 3 feet and it doesn't feel like the back seat.

GT has no view that is realistic

Hmm

I always thought the camera should swing to the outer side of the car in chase cam, when turning, so you can see where your steering! Makes sense to me....

i second this, isn't looking into the turn a key aspect of driving?

I'd hate to disprove you but the SLS AMG has good latitude views, except they lack in longitudinal...

Just about every game sucks in longitudinal view so we can't get over that. Normal field of views are around 130-150 and in GT it seems to be down to as low as 90...

After looking at this image and noticing the HUD being different than mine, is this a limited HUD or what version is this from...

I had no idea people bought GTA so they could race.

You can get back to me on how completely ridiculous the concept of looking around your car is in reality the next time you take your daily commute from 15 feet back and 5 feet up.

Ignoring the fact that this is a meaningless argument for the conversation for whether a free look option is beneficial to have: Driver: San Francisco. Project Gotham Racing. Forza. Are all of those also "not even close to a good driving game"?

Personally, I prefer a stiffer cam. If the cam is too flexible, like the one in GT3, I find it really disorientating. I lose sense of how much steering input I should give.

Dude... Chill. A LOT of us want the ability to run around our cars when at a stop. It's a good way to set up pictures from replays...

I'm not arguing against the option, so I don't understand this response.
So you are comparing racing games with similar features to this thread, while he brought up GTAV and it's racing?

Grand Theft Auto... Auto... Cars... It's all the same thing except with less basis towards the simulation. Arcade at heart is GTA..
