I remember watching that race (1999) at an Irsish pub in Myrtle Beach, SC. I was a big Terry Labonte fan at the time and became the official #1 Dale Earnhardt hater...good times and great racin'!

The first GT was more about road racing factory and modified factory vehicles than anything.

Yup, that's touring cars in a nutshell.

And GT1 was on PS1, and the first game. Did you complain when GT2 included LMP's? Do you know what LMP's are? Did you complain when GT3 included F1's? Did you complain in GT2 when Rally was introduced? Probably not, but you'll sit there on your couch, playing video games, talking about what drivers have what skill IRL, cause Lord knows, you Know.

I did complain. GT should be separate from rally. And I'm a fan of rally. If you were on the boards long enough you'd have noticed when I did.

Assumptions make me LOL.

For all you NASCAR haters out there, do me 1 favor if you would...On August 22nd there is a race at Bristol Motor Speedway. WATCH IT! Its a Saturday night race. The track is about a 1/2 mile or so but very very fast. Its like racing in a bath-tub. Short track with very high banking. Granted, not all races are as exciting as Bristol, but if you watch that race you'll kinda get an idea of what I'm talking about. Think like a driver and not a fan, because in GT5 your not watching the race but racing yourself. Its not as easy as you think. Open your mind and enjoy that you have the PRIVILEGE to play GT5 and absolutely no one will force you to buy the game. It is what it is...take it or leave it, its up to you my friend.👍

I disagree with the "very very fast" part. Also I hate short tracks. Indy Car, NASCAR, etc. Too slow. Dirt tracks and sprint cars are an exception though. Those things go nuts on those tracks. Also I have watched Bristol and I never really liked it. More about shoving the guy out of he way than flat out passing him it seems. NASCAR (all series) just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Too many gimmicks and the cars/trucks are too damn slow for me to enjoy watching it.

Actually, yeah, you did. What with the whole "GT should only have touring cars" and "I did complain when other forms of motorsport were included" bits.

Note to self: Constructive criticism is now the same as anger.

My, how the english language has changed....

Wait, if I talk about how I think this site could improve, will I get sent to anger management??

Perhaps your definition of "complain" is different from mine, but its always meant to me when you express criticism over something that makes you angry in some way. When coupled with your obvious holier-than-thou tone throughout this entire thread, you don't lend much credence to your hilarious "just joking guys" backtracking.

A little advice: If you want to act like you're smarter than everyone else because of your refined tastes, try not to contradict yourself quite as much as you have in this thread.

Hey, it's not my fault that your definition of "complaint" and "anger" don't match up with homeboy Webster's account. Did I complain? Yes. Was I angry? No. Was I disappointed? Yes. Was I livid? No. Does one have to go to the extreme of being angry before one complains about something? I don't.

How is that a contradiction??

But anyways, for the sake of staying on topic, let's leave semantics aside. You said "If it makes you so angry why are you still playing it?". So if I suggest PD did something wrong, then I must hate the game, right?

Tony Stewart's no-crap attitude should rendered in game to scare the AI!

I think the AI would be more scared of Kyle Busch.
^ Those guys are weak on the track compared to this guy:

^ When he died; my love of the sport died along with him. He was the only reason why I used to watch NASCAR. 👍

The current state of NASCAR is just sad...

AutoWeek just had an article about the S&P (start & park) teams in NASCAR in the last issue -both the Nationwide and SPRINT series.

Hard to argue with some of the numbers (per the AW article). The pay structure doesn't favor the complete race racers. Example "At GAteway, Brain Keselowski, Brad's brother, ran all but two laps and finished 20th. Teammate Allen start-and-parked to 41st. Keselowski earned $24,955 for 198 laps. Allen earned $21,945 for one". Then add in the expenses for the crew, the tires ($14k at Daytona), etc. plus some teams seem to be getting "something" for their pit postiton being empty in front of a driver who's in the hunt and could use an easier in and out.

And bigger tracks have bigger payouts -one S&P at Brickyard went one lap and earned $141,825, Daytona for 2 laps paid out $85,938.

The article summerizes that the S&Ps are basically just trying to survive in this economy and their other choice is to not race.

From Car & Driver, February 2009 - "The Quitting Game" - http://www.caranddriver.com/features/09q1/the_quitting_game-sport

No pit crew and no intention of running more than a few laps. How can anyone support a "sport" that allows this kind of crap? This is akin to throwing a fight. Has it always been this way?

And don't tell me it's the economy. Because F1, ALMS, IRL, etc. don't have teams that earn money just by qualifying & then not try to win.

It has been like that for awhile in the Nationwide series, it really only started this year in the Cup series though. I guess other than the economy it is just a side-effect of having such a big field. Chances are when the economy is in bad shape finding 43 teams able to run a full race is rather hard.

Speaking of NASCAR and its sad state, I lol'ed when they made a big deal about how there would be Mustang and Challenger bodied racers in NASCAR, then I seen the "Mustang bodied" car and it looks nearly nothing like a Mustang at all. At least Chevy gets it, as they won't be entering a "Camaro bodied" car because they said when the Camaro races they want it to look like a Camaro.;)

We are all entitled to our own opinions. Which is cool. However tell that to the almost 100,000 fans that show up for that race. And as far as the car/trucks being slow? Have you fallen and bumped your head? hitting almost 160mph at a 1/2 miles oval is fast, and at other tracks like Atlanta the Cup cars are hitting 200mph...thats slow? Also sprint cars are twice as lite as a cup car with just about the same HP, of course those little rocket ships are going to fly around on the dirt and I bet you its fun as heck too.:)

Big whoop 200mph. Yeah it's fast don't get me wrong. But that's slow as hell compared to other racing cars out there. CART was going +250mph on some tracks in it's heydey. And yeah I would love to drive a sprint car. Those cars are insane. Almost every crash is an aerobatic routine with those cars.

That video is more interesting than the last ones. Excellent use of slipstream (or whatever it is called). Imagine that outside an oval, that would be cooler.

I'm sure part of it is to pique interest in the US. But Kaz also said he would like to use Gran Turismo to introduce NASCAR to the rest of the world.

Coming from someone who played the first Gran Turismo as a kid at 13, raised on NASCAR and having to endure year after year of crappy EA sequels after they bought out the competition, I'm ecstatic
