Why people hate 4WD drifter?

Note that it was in response to JBanton's message, where he claims that cars that are rear-wheel drive with the engine placed at the front are the "truest" drifters.

Yeah i noticed.
But i am answering anyways. These discussions about layout are too complex to be treaten here. I´m just saying.

Anyways, not "truest"... but as standard, FR cars are the main choice due the weight distribuition, inertial concentration (engine, the most alive part in all cars), prediction in diferent situations and easier way to tune. I can even stand people saying how excentric they are by drift all kind of rwd layouts (what is dierent to bring awd as a valid option), but anyways... since its not so much normal and most competitions ignore what is not FR, i let these fancy things to the arabian sheiks.

To simplify what you said, many drifters put the engine at the front because the weight from the engine presses down on the front tyres and it also shifts the centre of gravity forward, meaning more oversteer. But at least IMO, putting the engine right at the back is a very silly choice because that means understeer in terms of weight distribution. But if putting it at the rear means understeer, then how come most Porsches oversteer like mad? Imagine if they put the engine at the front O_O .

JBanton
"Claim"? You mean quote :sly:

I'm pretty sure he means claim. Quote is when your using exact words. He could be clearing something up that wasn't exactly said word for word.

The engine is not a dead weight, like a ballast. It have its own inertia. In theory, anywhere where the engine stays in a car, not only the weight will makes influence, but also the inertia... so this part will have less freedom of movement, and will be more stable. Thats the second reason why front engine helps for the car´s balance.

About your argument, its important consider that MR and RR recieves massive modifications specialy in their suspensions, and even front ballast to bring the "G center" more to the front. What is hard to belive is see any MR or RR drifting like a boss with no extra weight inside the front hood.

I did use an exact word;

The speech marks notify that I'm quoting, read up on basic English before you say something like that :sly:

Whoa buddy easy. Got a question for you scholar, who are you quoting when you say "truest"? Is that a fact or claim? That's a claim bud unless you can cite sources.

He did not take full text from your script therefore who is he quoting? He put quotation marks around a WORD he quoted from you.

Don't insult my intelligence bud, that's not very nice!

You guys should take it to PM's, this is a forum not an english classroom...

True, point taken. People just need to learn not to take things so literal around here. I was just standing up against those types.

Back to topic. RWD FTW

Maybe RWD people hate AWD guys because their RWDs aren't accepted in WRC?

I don't know, I'm just putting it out there.

I didn't know that was the case..I could've sworn I've seen ff chassis in WRC...I guess I always assumed people didn't use rwd for rallying because of the inherent disadvantage of the chassis to what is necessary to be a successful competitor...kinda like awd is to drifting... :sly:

but awd and rwd drifting is two differnt things to,

but for me i dont hate any one. I love both awd and rwd drifters that really can do their thing.

but every one got different taste.
and some one like both things.

but there is no awd or rwd rallying, there is just rallying and awd is the most advantageous drivetrain to use, the same follows for drifting. any reference to "awd" drifting is an attempt to categorize something that doesn't need it
In both examples there is a constant: with all that is required to be successful an awd chassis is better than rwd for rallying; the inverse holds true for drifting, awd will always be at a disadvantage to its rwd bretheren, aside from the capability to go faster.

Wise words. 👍

Well said homie

Hmmn race drivers say that.

They use the grip upto the point of lost traction, we use it up to that point and beyond ;)

I have no idea what point you're trying to make, other than stating the obvious.

Then:

And then:

So, UnionStrike... if you don´t understand why the drifting forum is a serious place and points AWD as "drivetrain xenophobia", maybe you should look at yourself and analise your own xenophobia against the drifting as a whole.

I drift, I race, peoples take it too seriously here, it's a subjective thing, unlike racing which is definitive, either determined by time or position. So it really doesn't matter what the drivetrain is, you're kidding yourself if you think it's anything but ballet.

I see you went though my photos, well great, thanks for the clicks. They're old photos and I enjoyed driving the lancer around on a 100% Rain Nurb.. slides were bound to happen, which I just happened to have taken photos of. I drift to hone my skills for racing and nothing more, anything else would be a waste of time and energy.

You're 1/2 right. If anything i'd say drifting is more akin to figure skating then ballet..there are the subjective elements which are open to interpretation, but there are objective guidlines that are judged as well.

Im telling you we have a greater range of control with the car. We can do what grip racers do and then some (cant be said vice versa), try looking beyond the obvious.

Also competetive drifting is a trial of speed... Amoungst other things.

If you compare these things please try to do it right. Compare driving for fun/the car/the track with fun drifting and compare racing with drifting competetivly otherwise your comparing different things

Ballet is 100% style, there is drifting like this but theres also drift racing, didnt you know?

Yes we take it seriously because it's what we love to do, in real life & in GT5. Each sport is different & everyone likes whatever they want, but you got to respect other people's tastes. If you don"t like drifting, which is what it looks like, don't come over here talking 🤬 about it, you don't see us doing that in the racing forums.

I doubt you would be able to beat someone who only races.

Competitive drifting is a trial of speed. Normal racing is a trial of speed, so that makes your statement of comparing things invalid.... i think, the sentence isn't very clear.

Explain this "Drift Racing".

Competitive drifting is about trial of speed?

Please, do continue.

Drift Racing is basically using a racing line while trying to maintain a low angle and decent speed. You go for the fastest time rather than focusing on angle and smoke.

A old example made by Sheron

This sounds like some Tokyo Drift 🤬.

I always thought that the whole line and angle thing was the Tokyo Drift crap. Just saying.

What they do in that movie is races, whoever gets to the finish 1st. That has nothing to do with what we do, the comps we do, nothing. Yes, there's tandem shots in it but still the concept of it is a race.

I just thought that due to their fondness of drifting for show. Which would be the whole line and angle bit.

Also In Formula Drift the judging criterias are:
1. Style
2. Angle
3. Line
4. Speed

That is both for qualifying runs & the lead car in battles. In qualifying it only matters if you're going below a certain pre-determined speed at a certain spots, and in battles they've said it doesn't matter much since both cars are almost always around the same speed.
