Why Subaru IMPREZA Rally Car '99 isn't a Premium Car in GT5?

...and WHY IS the Peugeot 307 cc AVN a premium car?

It is useless, ugly, heavy, uncool, unpopular, over-priced (43,260 credits!) boring, stupid, probably a cruel PD joke on us, and a menace to drive (I don't actually know this last bit. Wouldn't want to).

I do know that the Subaru is an old Premium. Don't think I'm stupid, I know it take 3-6 month to create a PS3 model of a car for a Gran Turismo PS3 game, but if they forgot all about it, then one of us should contact Kazunori Yamauchi about it, and see what he can do.

In that GT HD video, thats how Standard cars should look like in GT5!

Standard cars should look like premium cars, I'm pretty sure PD agrees with me on that. The only problem is that it takes a lot of work ( = a lot of money) to make it happen.

On topic: The GT HD Impreza is not in GT5 because it's not a premium car. It looks a lot better than the standard, but it's not premium quality.

Why does PD do anything? We will never know what goes behind the thinking and the reasons why some thinngs are done and not done by the Director Kazunori Yamauchi. Time? Resources? Or Just that the standard was good enough not to remodel all over again.

An even better question is what happened to the Nissan Skyline 370GT Concept by Gran Turismo from GT5:P? Not only does it's digital model NOT appear in the game, but this car was actually so popular it was re-created in real life!!! Then we get into things like Pikes Peak, Piazza del Campo and El Capitan and even more questions start circling around the PD logic camp.

Well GT5 turns 1 year old near the end of this month... lets see if PD does anything to freshen the game up on it's birthday.

I had GT HD and ended up deleting it for HDD space before I upgraded my drive to 320GB. Bad times. It did feel like an awesome little mini GT.

I say we campaign for the return of the Impreza Rally Car '99.

Have you tried re-downloading it from your Download List from the PSN Store? Even when games and demos are removed from the store, they are usually still available for re-download for anyone that downloaded it previously.

I'd much rather take actually meaningful cars like that Impreza as premium, than some Suzuki Cappucinnos, old 80's Silvias and even NASCARs.

I just checked my download list and sure enough GTHD is still available for download. The download list is sorted chronologically... so most likely it'll be near the bottom of your list. I downloaded it back in March of 2007.

Awesome, thank you very much for the tip mate 👍

Will be downloading it as soon as I get home from work :)

Remember Gran Turismo HD?

During e3 2006, they showed a e3 demo with a Subaru IMPREZA Rally Car '99 as a "Premium" car in it.

Heres a video of the GTHD demo reply with the Premium version of the rally car that I found on Youtube.

And see how it looks in GT5.

That isn't quite the GTHD demo- it's Promo to the GTHD demo and like all PD's promo it might be real time rendering but it definitely didn't use PS3 as the output (ie. it's a video not the game).

Like someone has pointed out the Subaru Impreza wasn't in GTHD. The only Rally car in GTHD was the Toyota Celica GT-FOUR WRC.

I heard a rumor a while before GT5 came out that after PD released GT5-P they started to using a new graphics engine. If there is any thruth to that, they basically started over so that may be the reason for certain cars not being in the game. That may also be the reason that some features available in GT5-P were missing from GT5

If graphical assets couldn't be shared between rendering engines, GT5 would have about 830 less cars than it does.

Here's a pic of the Subaru, it's pretty obviously a low-quality Premium, but that still doesn't explain why it's missing.

GT6 better answer all of our questions, damnit.

Maybe PD just added the standard cars because they would have been easier (or just quicker) to add them than it would have been to add the cars form GT-HD or Prologue

There are other things that didn't get included in GT5...

See anything interesting in that picture?

I still cannot understand why PD threw all of those out. That more than anything else proves just how impossibly scatterbrained GT5's development was.

What a colossal waste of effort on their part.

Assets are assets to the rendering engine.

Agreed, why not just include the 2009 cars alongside the 2010 ones? And why did MWR not just put Truex Jr.'s #56 in? Why not have the option to paint the cars in alternate schemes (even if they are fantasy) to vary things up in online races?

It's all very frustrating indeed! And I'm sorry to whoever the poor chaps were that had to paint and model all of those cars! Still... I can't help but feel that it might not have been entirely PD's fault (NASCAR Licensing requirement?), with the exception that it was their fault that the game took so long to release... but if they had gone another two years of development, what would've happened then???

*sigh*

That or it proves that when you do not know the actual facts and are just trying to second guess someone else's (most likely many people's) decision without knowing all the facts that went into the making of said decision, some might consider you to be scatterbrained for doing so.

It's easy to play the critic... which is why few critics ever produce any original work, but if you aren't even the least bit familiar with the actual facts regarding any decision in the development of this game - how exactly can you come to the conclusion that any one was impossibly scatterbrained?

It never ceases to amaze me how just because someone plays a game they think they know exactly how a game is developed without even considering all the issues and problems that force developers to make compromises.

This, like many other games is a massive multi-million dollar project whose development has lasted for several years... and yet some how we are supposed to be led to believe that someone not even involved in the project let alone any similar project, knows more than the men and women responsible for this massive project and whose livelihood depends on its success... and not just sitting in front of a computer posting random rants about people they don't even know.... wow.

My guess would be that the cars in GT-HD were not modelled to a high enough standard to be a premium car. And when they were doing the premium models got GT5 perhaps the Impreza Rally Car '99 wasn't available to PD for them to re-model it. It must be very difficult to get the time and availability with the cars to do the modelling. This has almost certainly been a factor in why there are so many Japanese cars in the game, purely because they are more readily available to PD.
