Nah, it's not that much of a workout. You break a sweat, but nothing beats the real thing. :)
DANGIT!!! I want a video game that offers a true cardiovascular workout. It would definitely help with childhood obesity.

It's hard to get a full cardiovascular workout when you're only moving your arm(s). Maybe if you have a big-screen TV and lots of space, you can run around your living room for Wii Sports Tennis, following the movements of your Mii.

Actually, I remember seeing a video of another Mii-based game where you're supposed to run in place, and the action of swinging the controller back and forth is what the system uses to determine that you're running. Also, WarioWare will have games where you need to put the controller on your head and do squats, and other "up and active" kinds of things.

Of course, those running and squatting games could be tricked by just moving the controller around in your hand, but only toolboxes do that.

Thank you PA for the Toolboxes thing :D

Meh, I was going through full golf motions and following through for bowling. Keeps you on your feet at least, instead of sitting all the time. Better than most console games about getting you up and active, thats for sure ;)

...Depending on if I get what I like to call my "Crime-Buster Bonus" at work or not, I'm pretty seriously considering buying a Wii now. That is if I end up with the $250 I should be getting, otherwise it is going right into the 360 pot. I still need an extra wireless controller, quick-charge system, and maybe an extra game or two...

YSSMAN, you might be interested to hear Amazon is going to have 1000 XBOX 360 Core systems for 100 dollars this Thursday, going on sale at 11AM pacific time.

All I need is a good lightsaber game and I will get a better workout than George Michael Bluth (from Arrested Development for those who haven't seen it).

Tricked? You mean like jumping off the Power Pad for the long jump?

I already have a 360 (premium), but thanks for the heads-up. The Wii purchase goes in and out of my head all day, so I don't know. There are still lots of things that I "need" to buy, an HDTV being one of them, a new digital camera as well. The Wii is on the list, but if the DVD player is coming fairly early next-year, I may just wait for that. I don't know.

...I need to call my Dad and see if he bought a Wii for my 6 y.o. brother or not. If thats the case, I'll want to use it before I buy it. Maybe... I still want to play Madden 07, Rayman, and Wii sports sooooooooo bad!

According to my friend, the stores here apparently won't ship any more Wiis until Christmas. What happened to Nintendo's plan of shipping 4 million Wiis by the end of the year?

1. Wiis here are supposedly shipping regularly.

2. The 4 million number includes Europe, Japan, and Australia. The Wii has only been launched in the US.

Other than the broken wriststraps thing, has anyone else found indications that the Wii isn't quite as strong as the 'Cube was?

While playing a Gamecube game on the Wii the other night, my dog walked into the controller cord and pulled the Wii off its 3-foot-high shelf. After hitting the floor, the Wii wouldn't load any game discs, either Wii or GC, and made weird noises. However, after smacking the console on the opposite side from where it hit the floor, it started working just fine.

I mean, yeah, the Wii's working again, but my GameCube wouldn't have even noticed if it was dropped from the same height. At most, an extension port plastic cover would pop out.

Anyone else have any problems, temporary or otherwise?

Was the Wii vertical? If you use corded GC controllers, you should lay it flat. Or you could get a Wavebird.

They didn't drop the system itself.
True, but I have never dropped a system. Teh simple fact that you just had to bang on yours to make it work tells me it is probably pretty solid, even if the GC would have taken that better. I challenge you to try that with any of the other two brands' systems.

My PS2 has never been dropped but when I pick it up and tilt it I can hear something moving around inside. It also has trouble reading certain discs. The best I can figure is that it took a bump in my car one day when moving.

Once, I accidently dropped my friend's old bulky PS2 about 30cm high off the ground. It just kept on playing the game when it was dropped.

Wow, every other story I've heard about it, at a minimum, put a huge scratch in the disc.

I am interested to see if my PS2 and Xbox controllers can hit a wall as hard as the Wii mote in that video does and still work. I do know that controller cords are very susceptible to cat claws/teeth. I lost two controllers in two days that way.

Yeah when my mate's PS2 got knocked off a 15-25cm ish high table whilst playing a game it started making weird noises so we had to hit it for a while and eject the loader a few times before it started working.

Wii is officially launched here December 7th, preordered my copy (with a free GT Pro series) and I'll be picking up Zelda...:D

If I'm not mistaken, you'll be the first person here to own GT Pro. I'd appreciate it if you told us what you think of it -- I haven't seen it available for rental yet.

No problem, I think it's already for sale here (even though the Wii console itself hasn't been launched yet).

My Beagle had a penchant for chewing up Sega Genesis controllers, so I feel your pain. I even lost a joystick that way. I cried.

Nintendo is getting Sued!

And for all the things they could be sued for (such a flying Wiimotes), it is for patent infringement:

CNet News
Nintendo of America has been sued by Interlink Electronics over alleged patent infringement in its Wii console's remote control...

...
Interlink, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in remote controls and electronic-signature technology, filed suit in a federal district court in Delaware on December 4, claiming that Nintendo's Wii Remote violates its "Trigger Operated Electronic Device" patent (U.S. patent No. 6,850, 221). ...

Its funny because the patent system is broken enough for this to be not thrown out of court. I'd love to know why they aren't suing Sony, Microsoft, Sega, Namco and Konami as well.
