Well just thought I'd post to say I've done over 30 hours of Twilight Princess now :D Just finished the Snowpeak dungeon :)

I just found out from one of my regular customers that I was the only person out of the first 69 Wii buyers at my local Best Buy that didn't get Zelda. I'm proud of that fact. :sly:

Apparently, this kid's friend was the guy standing behind me (I was #68), and when he went in to get his Wii, the Best Buy employee told him that I was the first person who didn't get Zelda.

Anyway, I don't hate Zelda games, but I just don't enjoy playing them at all (A Link to the Past was the last one I got any real enjoyment from, and the first game was the only one that kept me interested long enough to beat it). That said, I do like breaking steadfast norms, and Twilight Princess is almost selling 1:1 with the Wii, so I find this newfound discovery rather amusing. :D

Yup. I updated this morning after noticing my blue light and played with the Forecast Channel for a while.

I was hoping for Opera this weekend, but what exactly will this "trial" be missing? It sure would be nice to have a second internet-able device for those times when my friend takes over my computer and I'm stuck on the TV.

Your friend takes over your computer? Kick him off!

I'm thinking that this Opera trial will probably not include flash capability and stuff like that, however.

Heh. My house is his only internet access, and he and his girlfriend use it to keep track of their bank account online and stuff like that. Afterwards, though, he chats on forums like I do. I just want to be able to hop on the forums at the same time using the Wii.

You're probably right about the flash and stuff, though. It may just be a less-glitchy Wii Shop browser with more javascript functionality.

Found out a cool, but pointless, gimick involving the Forecast Channel. Madden '07 accesses it to determine the weather for your games.

It's kind of gimicky, but cool.

Sorry, I beat you to it. Believe it or not, this was a Wii post:

:sly:

You typed all that with a Wiimote?!? That's jacked up.

Personally, I think the web browser is pretty cool, YouTube works well, etc. However, since the Wii is 480i, it's practically impossible to read smallish text, and you have to zoom in on it. :irked: Not to mention there's no fast way to go to the bottom of the page and such.

I kinda figured that would happen, though.

It's not that bad once you learn to use the auto-finish dictionary. However, it was kinda pathetic when I hopped over to my PC to double-check those gas mileage numbers. A tab system would be nice in the final version of the Wii browser.

Anyway, I found out why we're finally getting the browser now, and why it's incomplete -- Opera had the browser pretty much set and ready to go, but Nintendo and Opera discovered that the Wii could be exploited using javascript and other functions of the browser (much like the Wii Shop "hack" that was closed off in that Nov. 30 update). Thus, Opera was forced to go back and revamp the browser, even to the point of manually building flash support to fill any security holes. Meanwhile, Nintendo was getting impatient because they had sorta promised the browser for launch, so they were pressuring Opera to finish the browser quickly.

As a compromise, they've given us this "Trial Version" (read: open beta), with most of the basic functionality and javascript in place, but only Flash 7 support and not much else.

I have a question about the opera though. Can't you get unwanted cookies, spyware, and viruses through this onto your Wii? They may be doing something extra or i missed something, but now that i thought of this I'm not too sure of reopening opera.

I've done a good share of websurfing on my Wii, yet my block number (for the Wii's memory) hasn't changed by a single digit, not even when I surfed using the Wii Shop Channel. It seems to me like an integral part of the Wii's web-browsing capabilities is that it wipes its memory clean of that stuff every time you return to the Wii Menu...that could explain why we have to load our favorites list like a webpage every time we use it.

I haven't tried using any forum login cookies or anything like that yet, though. Do they work on the Wii? If not, there's your answer.

Edit: I tried it, and the "Remember Me" option does indeed work. However, I also noticed that Opera has a 29-block entry with my gamesaves, in addition to the 230-block entry on my channels list. I suspect that cookies, etc. are stored in that easily-deleted "gamesave."

I got a pretty big hands on demo of the Wii today and it was a better experience than I thought. I would definitely get it if I knew I was going to have a lot of friend around but for myself not so much. I'd rather just get the Wii Mote and bring it to where ever the Wii Party (no pun intended) would be.

Will it blend? ...Not really.

I was really pulling for the Wii too. That sorry ass blabbering DJ and his $400 blender deserved to break.

Yeah, deleting the gamesave erases your cookies. The only problem is that it also erases your favorites too.
[my first Wii post!]

So do you guys want our Miis to mingle with each other? If soo ill have to get back with yall to give you my ID#

I've thought about it, but I'm not sure I want my Wii # posted on the internet for lots of people to see, even on a tight-knit, responsible community like this one. Any spam at all would be hard to deal with.

I think for the online system to work, both parties need to know each other's code.

Not to mention, I never get any spam because I posted my XBL Gamertag. not to mention there aren't as many Wiis out there to be afraid of.

The number of Wiis out there doesn't matter. All you have to do is email w(your wii number)@wii.com

However, you're probably right about the both-parties-needing-to-know-each-other's-codes thing. I don't remember how it's supposed to work.

I'm starting to get frustrated now. I have been trying to get my hands on a Wii since before Christmas and I am still having no luck. The local gaming stores will get 2 or 3 in but there will be 2 or 3 people, if not more, standing around waiting for them when the shipments come in. I would be willing to show up at 11:00-12:00 if I didn't have to work.

I wasn't getting frustrated until I was in Target and they had 3 60gb PS3s just sitting there and no Wiis. I assumed with twice as many Wiis out there that they would be the easier of the two to get.

Oh well, anyone else have any pointers on getting one of these things (that doesn't involve ebay)?

Sorry about the rant, but I am really getting tired of looking. It is tempting to just give up until I happen to walk into a store one day and see one sitting there. I'm not so spoiled that my life is ruined without it or anything, but this running around trying to catch them has killed my gas mileage and has become annoying.

I'm sorry to say that I don't really have any tips for you other than to try to be one of those people that is standing around when the shipments come in...or become good friends with someone who works at one of the stores.

On the positive side, at least you know that the system is doing well enough that it will probably fare better than the GameCube did, and will probably have plenty of good games to choose from down the road.

I finally played it. I hit up Bowling and Boxing on Wii Sports, and played DBZ TenK..........Whatever the hell it is. Not bad. the controllers just add alot to the feel of the games, great little system I need to get me one.

I tried the standing around during the five days I had off work over the holidays. So, instead of getting used to my new DFP I speant most of my time going from store to store and even hanging out on the PS3 demo.

Yep, I have full confidence in it and even if all I ever did was buy sports games for it I think it would be worth it. My goal was to have it before I got back to work, now my goal is to have it before Tiger Woods comes out in March. That should be a great game on the Wii.

The only thing that makes the News Channel worthwhile, IMO, is the slide-show function, where it starts playing that music and zipping to the location of each piece of news. :)

In other news, I rented WarioWare. It's fun, but dear god is it shallow. I finished the single-player mode in less than 2 hours, and then my friends and I were bored with it less than an hour after that. As far as we can tell, the multiplayer mode forces all players to use the same WiiMote, which is particularly troublesome considering the fast pace of the game, and a small handful of the minigames just don't seem to work right at all.

A fun rental, but never worth $50.
