I had my first experience on a Wii last night, I must say, it was quite fun, but I think it's really something that I would only use with a bunch of friends, probably not just sitting at home by myself. Admittedly I only played Wii Sports.
I play at least one game of tennis by myself almost once a day. It is a great stress reliever after I get home from work. I have decided that I am the John McEnroe of Wii Tennis. (YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!!)

But I must ask, why is everything backwards for people who play left handed like me? For example in Golf, I had to swing in the opposite direction of the TV.
It worked fine for my brother-in-law. But he created his own Mii and we were using separate controllers. That way he was able to do this:
When you select a Mii to use it should ask you what dexterity you are.
And his Mii now has all his left-handed settings saved.
I meant more specifically the action. When I did bowling left handed, it did it exactly the same as a right hander would, just bowling normally towards the TV. However, the golf swing, which is more or less the same as a bowl, had to be done backwards?
Bowling is the only game I can think of where the motion is the same regardless of which hand you use. In Tennis your backswing and foreswing switch directions and your Mii switches stances to accomodate. In Baseball your Mii will stand on the opposite side of the plate and use his left hand to pitch. In Boxing the stance changes so your right hand is forward and the left hand can do power punches. And in Golf your Mii will stand on the opposite side of the ball.

Also we were just kinda swapping every couple of minutes so the right hand players got preference.
I think this is your problem. Were you telling the Wii that you were left-handed? If not and then you personally took a left-handed stance the Remote reads the IR signals backwards because it is facing the opposite direction (making it think it was upside down). Either tell the Wii you are left-handed or swing from a right-handed stance.

Your best bet would be to create your own Mii and make him left-handed so it is saved that way and then when you get a chance to play load up your Mii. It isn't as if there are any huge loading times.

I think I'll be firing up my AIM account once again. This is pretty slick.

Long story short, it'll let you use AIM on your Wii. IMO, it'll be gimmicky, but it's still a cool feature nonetheless.
So it works through the browser? I guess that will save that crazy registration process you have to use to use the mail center.

That reminds me, they need to have a way for you to identify yourself when you do that because getting an email from a Wii number and asking if I know thw Wii number doesn't help much. I had to go look up my friend's Wii code to make sure it was him. I can only assume it is meant as a security thing.

Quick question...Can you save Gamecube games onto a micro SD card placed in an SD adapter in the Wii? I was just wondering because I was thinking about purchasing Animal Crossing and I don't want it to take up any space of my Wii's memory.

No, but don't worry about it taking up your Wii's memory, because it won't go there either. You need a GameCube memory card in order to save with any GameCube games.

Ah okay. Thanks for that...guess I'll have to fork out for a 251 block card or something then.

I got Wii Play this weekend. Considering that after the Wii Remote you are really only paying $10 for the game its is pretty fun and a good deal. It is a good party game, and made even more fun after a few drinks. My friends and I are working on putting together a Beerfest styled competition using Wii Sports and Wii Play.

Oh, and is everyone voting? My wife is loving that channel.

Can I join the Wii Club? My brother bought one yesterday, I spent about an hour playing on it tonight.
Only Wii Sports so far, what games do you guys recommend?

Welcome to the Wii Club.

What game depends on your tastes. I currently have Wii Play and Madden and am trying to play through a rental of Trauma Center. I also rented Rapala Tournament Fishing.

If you like (American) football Madden on the Wii is awesome because of the controls. I actually have to stand up to play it because I can't sit still while throwing out a stiff arm or juking around a guy. The graphics are not as good as the other systems, but on Super Bowl Sunday I was playing at my mom's house and one of her friends came in and thought the game had already started. So they will impress non-gamers, but regular gamers won't get too excited. I don't know if Madden is even sold in Australia, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. You might have some Australian rules equivelant or other sports titles that get an added bonus from the controls.

Wii Play is a fun party game and it comes with an extra remote. I keep going back to play pool and the shooting gallery by myself. It's definitely much more fun against other players.

Skip Rapala Tournament Fishing. Fishing is something I love to do but when you remove the nature and the actual fish it is extremely boring.

Trauma Center I have just started and so I am still on the fence. Early on it seems slow, but it might have the potential to be awesome as I get into it. I could live without the soap opera style storyline. They should have made it more like Scrubs (TV Show). That would be awesome.

Then if you like past Zelda games that is a no-brainer. I heard that Zelda sold with something liek 9 out of 10 systems so it must be enjoyable. I am the one guy that didn't buy it.

And if you like to roll old school there are always the Virtual Console games. I love my Super Nintendo games. Capcom and Konami seem to be coughing up some decent stuff.

Thanks for the tips, and for the welcome :P
I'll have a look into Wii Play, we've only got one Wiimote for the moment, so another one would come in handy for sure, and shooting + billiards sounds like awesome fun.
I'm not a big football person, but I'll keep an eye out for Madden all the same.
I believe my cousin has Trauma Centre on her Wii, I'll have to go have a look at that, I must say the idea does sound interesting, its not often you see a video game based in a hospital. :)
And unfortunatley I never got into past Zelda games (this is the first Nintendo console we've had since the SNES) but I hear the latest one is excellent, so I'll add it to my list of games to take a look at. Thanks and +rep :)

Sonic and the Secret Rings is pretty fun. Definitely better than Sonic for the 360 and PS3 (as if that's hard to do) -- instead of being hellishly retarded, it's just frustrating in a normal oh-yeah-I-almost-forgot-Sega-programmed-this kind of way.

It's basically a Sonic-Adventure-style game with Sonic-Riders-ish gameplay, along with the best graphics I've seen on the Wii yet. It also has a Sonic-Shuffle-like set of party minigames on the side.

If you're used to being frustrated by 3D Sonic games, SatSR is right up your alley.

Any you guys had the problem with the wii say when the power goes out in your house. Unless you unplug it from the wall for 2-5 mins after the power goes out and comes back on your wii "well at least mine" will not turn back on. It has only happend when im connected wii24.

I haven't had the situation happen yet, so I can't say.

We picked up Wii Play today, which came packaged with the all-important extra WiiMote.
The minigames are pretty fun, will be great for a party :)
My fav was the fishing.

I wish Wiiplay was only 5 bucks more instead of 10. That tanks game is awesome.

What, and ruin the 9.99 at the end of every price? Really, I think Nintendo's 4 key is broken.

I love the tanks game, although two player always turns out to be my friend and I shooting at each other first so we can claim all the points. I'm not so keen on being discouraged to kill my friend.

Since WiiPlay is laid out in a training format for the Wii Remote I am curious what they intend to make for us after they assume that we have mastered the controls.

Does anyone else love the third traning minigame for tennis in Wii Sports? You know, the one with the targets you've gotta smash.
I spend hours playing that! My top score is 28 :)

You guys are making me want a Wii now. Stop it!
You know, there's only one cure for that. :sly:

So, my dad finally got a chance to play the Wii with me this weekend. I thought he would be better with this because his usualy complaint is that there are too many buttons on controllers. Well, while bowling he kept hitting the A button to try and start his approach and at one point said, "Wrong button again. That's the problem, too many buttons." I'm glad I didn't have him play anything that required the Nunchuck.

He did manage to beat me at Wii Play pool because once he got used to using the B button he understood the angles and the point behind the game. He also managed to get the hang of the cow riding game and beat me on his third try (no buttons).

Tell him that there are only so many things you can do with a pong-knob.

Well, he can handle an old-school Atari joystick. One button, one stick.

My dad is the same exact way with the whole buttons thing.
Must be an adaptability thing. At least he can get the movement part down. Unfortunately his bad rotator cuff prevented him from really getting into it too much.

I do think he liked it because he was asking how much it cost. It would be interesting to see if he actually buys one. Maybe he will get used to the idea of two buttons.

And I haven't even told about when he tried my DFP. That was just too sad.

I've yet to see one for sale. I'm thinking about just getting one at Christmas if I spend some time with one somewhere and like it.

Cow riding? You mean bull riding? How on earth do you do that with a controller?

I recommend trying one out. That's what hooked me.

I got one, but I woke up at 4:00 AM and stood outside Target (they didn't have one) and then Circuit City an hour before each opened, in freezing rain and snow. I figured out when and where by watching the Amazon message boards at the bottom of the Wii page.

Well, they might be bulls, but they had very tiny horns. It isn't bull riding like at a rodeo, rather you race them (against a friend or the clock) down a road and knock over scarecrows for points.

The play works by holding the remote sideways. You tilt it forward to speed up and back to slow down. Left or right will steer it respectively, and then occasionally you have to jump a hurdle by jerking straight up. It's actually very funny to watch, especially if you start trying to bump the other player off the road.

Here is a two part video of Wii Play.
Part 1

Part 2 (Cow riding is at 3:37 - 4:20 if counting down)

I just read a preview for Medal of Honor: Vanguard and it sounds like it will be fun as you point and shoot and actually make a throwing motion to throw grenades.

Although, next Thursday is Tiger Woods 07 and every preview I have heard/read makes it sound like it works perfectly with the controls. I am taking Thursday and Friday off work for the NCAA Tournament (yes, I am that guy) so I will probably buy the game and get plenty of playing time in, especially since my paycheck Friday will have about 30 hours of overtime on it.

Heh, yes Wii Play is lots of fun. Just today I got the gold medal for the ping pong, 100 returns! The shooting minigame is great too, but my favourite is still the fishing, I caught 2000 points worth of fish today :)

OK, I said a while back that I would give a review of Trauma Center: Second Opinion. Well, I have been busy and finally had a chance to play through my rented version's story mode.

I haven't played the DS version, Under teh Knife, so if I seem ignorant of it that is why.

The gameplay is nice and teh controls work well. It starts out kind of slow and you spend more time with the very, very, very boring soap opera storyline. The story would be easier to watch iof it were videos and not just 2D images that popped up with words at the bottom. It reminded me of SNES style story interludes.

So, you use the nunchuck to select your tool and you use the remote to direct your instrument. It is very simple, unless you are my wife who "can't do two things at once" and refuses to see how a traditional controller requires two things at once.

Anyway, as it builds up you start t9o feel like youare getting bored, until you have to work in the ER because "there are no ER doctors on call." Then you have to use the defibrillator and the puzzle part of teh game truly begins to show as you have to use precise timing to save the life of the patient.

After completing the fisrt chapter (10 episodes, not all involving gameplay) you jump to your first Z mission with a female doctor. I call her the anal probe doctor because she starts surgeries by saying she is ready to start the procedure and then thrusts two fingers straight up in the air. All I could think was that she should buy me a bottle of wine first. Thgsi si when the puzzle game becomes obvious as you actually have to work a puzzle and rebuild a bone from fragments. This truly shows the Wii controlls as you actually have to turn the pieces by turning the remote.

Anyway, the story goes on, and you discover that you have to stop diseases created by medical terrorism that involves parasites, so surgery is required in every case. You have the "Healing Touch" that you can implement onvce a surgery to slow time down and help you out. Occasional levels require the use of it and only at a certain time.

Basically it is a puzzle game disguised behind a surgery game. It requires no medical knowledge at all and just quit, steady hands. The controls and gameplay is smooth. After a while it feels less like surgery and more like a shooter as you chase parasites around with lasers. The weakest point is the story. Once I discovered that hitting (-) would fast forward the story I quit paying attention.

Overall the game is solid, but slow in parts. If you enjoy puzzle games then it is definitely for you. I for one am the type that disliked Resident EVil because I just wanted to kill zombies, not solve puzzles and find hidden gems. So, if you want a game that is just a game without thought avoid it.

Overall I will give it a 6.5/10. A better story and way to tell it (videos, anyone?) and it would be a solid 7-7.5.

Next I will review Tiger Woods '07, which I have not made a secret that I am really looking forward to. I love golfing and I orked 14 hours when it was a nice, sunny 75 degree day here.

In other news: With Nentendo announcing Neo-Geo and MSX games coming to the VC rumors have been flying around online about Sega Sturn games on the VC. While I never owned one I know it had a lot of nice games and seemsed like a early version of what the Playstion was. I am looking forward to this.

And a couple of questions:
1) I submitted this to the Everybody Votes Channel - Would you like to see a media channel that would play audio and video failes, such as MP3 and mpeg files? I can see this being run through the Internet Channel to give it versatility.

2) Did anyone expect to see the Everybody Votes Channel be more along my above question than thinsg like favorite color and whether you prefer cats and dogs?

3) I will add this if my other question, or something liek it appears on Votes - woudl you liek to see VC updates so that you can play them online? Or would you like to see any online games?

What I'd like to see is an expanded version of the Photo Channel that, like your idea, FoolKiller, could play audio or video files, but could also allow you to compose your own simple MIDI tunes (a la the composer feature in Mario Paint for the SNES) and send them to your friends using the Message Board. I could see Nintendo going for the idea if it had that extra gimmick.

Internet-based multimedia playback will most likely be a feature of the final version of the Internet Channel, methinks.
