Next time, I would highly recommend using the power button instead of unplugging it. You were lucky.

SSBB got delayed a month. :(((
You would think it is GT game or something. You know, developers might just be best not announcing release dates until after it goes gold.

Just a thought.

Let me just sound off on the Wii. This goes back to some of the earlier criticisms.

John Sounds Off! - The Nintendo Wii
I get the feeling that Nintendo was been declared dead with the GameCube. I do admit that there haven't been too many games I've played with the Nintendo GameCube. Thing is, I've ALwAYS respected Nintendo. I was a Nintendo person before I eventually turned a Sony person. Nintendo has contributed a great deal towards creating great games that would be great even in the 21st Century. I've heard all the criticism about the Wii when it came out. I saw that bogus-looking controller planned for the Wii. How many people who hated the Wii eventually found something to love from swinging around the nunchucks? Nintendo's Wii system turned out to be one of the most innovative and creative ways to enjoy gaming. It's even served as health benefits. More than ever, Nintendo created something that will be popular to not only gamers. Look at the different health clubs and stuff having Wii consoles. It was a new way to play games where you basically are the controller. It may look dumb to most people at first, but at least you aren't going to use a controller attached to a system. Think about being a quarterback in the Madden games. I think the Wii version of whatever Madden it was was received better since you have more control passing the ball down the field. As much as the Wii was hated by some people, most of them eventually just shut up and play.

I've never hated Nintendo. The Wii (or even the GameCube) wasn't as bad as... the Virtual Boy (and I wanted one!). I've only played "Super Mario Galaxy" on the Wii so far. I still need lots of help using the motion sensors and stuff. But just thinking about what you can play on your virtual console and everything is just amazing. Buy classic games, download them to your Wii, and play! Nintendo's gaming success can be enjoyed on the Wii. It's old school charm on a new school system from a company as great as Nintendo. Why Microsoft (and even Sony) fans continually bashed the Wii is beyond me. They talked about Nintendo like Nintendo went bankrupt and stop selling games. Like they were going to join Sega, Atari, 3DO, Jaguar, and Turbo Grafx among others as no longer making game systems. Who said they were dead? If anything, Nintendo's made gaming fun again in my view. You can even still use the GameCube to play some games. Nintendo's not dead. Nintendo's just brought a little more life and fun back to gaming. People just hated on Nintendo simply because they felt Nintendo was no longer on par with Sony and Microsoft. Like these people wanted Nintendo to just give up and give way to Sony and Microsoft. Well guess what? Nintendo's still alive and well whether you want to accept it or not. I'd still love to play "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" and "Mario Kart Wii" on the Wii. I may even play some classic games I didn't get a chance to play in my younger years including Kid Icarus. I may even want to do what I couldn't do when I was younger- get past the third world in Metroid.

The Wii is not going to accepted to most people. That's okay. It's just NOT okay when you say this console is not in the same league as the PlayStation 3 and the XBOX 360. This goes back to me saying that people need to give things more of a chance rather than bashing them like they are pieces of crap that don't deserve to be successful. If it's so unsuccessful, then tell me why there was a shortage of Wii systems when people wanted them so much. I'd probably say the Wii is kind of making people forget all about the GameCube with its inventive style of gaming and pure fun this system can deliver. If this isn't enough to convince people otherwise, then I've failed myself trying to convince others. I guess you can't make everyone happy.

The most I see are those Wii videos at Wal-Marts and stuff. I think more people are starting to like the Wii more than when it was released. I just wish more people stopped thinking Nintendo (as well as the GameCube) was dead.

i'm too lazy to try this myself but if you had an SD card slot on your computer could you take the gamesaves off of the SD card and transfer the saves onto your computer then onto something like youtube? or would you have to go to taht wiisave thingy?

also has anyone here tried fight a lvl 9 marth using Ike? i think it looks really cool.

You tube won't take any non-official video formats or non-video files, so not on YouTube, but any file hosting system or site you wish to use should work.

Can you use a USB keyboard for wii internet browser? I saw the icon for wiimote only as I went to buy it. Is that saying I can only use the wiimote for the internet browser or can I use a USB keyboard?

Well, looks like the best way to get a Wii is to...kill children?

Report: Prison Guards Ordered to Play Wii with Child Killer
September 9, 2008

ThePeople.co.uk reports that guards at H.M. Frankland Prison have been ordered to play Wii games with an inmate who killed two little girls in a highly-publicized 2003 case.

According to the report, administrators, who apparently hope to prevent Ian Huntley (left) from committing suicide, have also instructed guards to call Huntley by his first name and "treat him like family." Huntley has made three unsuccessful attempts to take his own life. From the report:

...taxpayers have picked up the bill to put a £179 Nintendo Wii console in Huntley's cell in Co Durham.

And warders will join him in games which require players to replicate real-life actions in sports like tennis, golf and fishing. A jail source said: "Huntley has been asking for a Wii for months.

"When he moved to Frankland in February he was given a Nintendo Game Cube - but after only a few weeks he began complaing it was out of date.

"Management are desperate to stop him going though with threats he's made to kill himself and by giving him a Wii they believe they can take his mind away from harming himself in any way."

OK, I think this may be a sign to Nintendo that they need to change things a bit.

Nintendo's move 'away from the hardcore' cited in N-Revolution mag's closure

MCV reports that Imagine's Nintendo-only UK magazine, N•Revolution, will cease publication. In this day and age, with ad revenue and readership down – not to mention a little thing you're using called the internet – this move doesn't exactly come as a surprise. Its publisher's reasoning for the closure does.

Imagine's managing director, Damian Butt, says that Nintendo's focus is shifting away from the magazine's readership, i.e. core gamers. "It has become increasingly obvious that Nintendo's strategy...has moved increasingly away from the hardcore gaming community that is our specialty," Butt explained.

Still, Butt says that Imagine – which also publishes gamesTM – will continue to work with Nintendo to "drive purchases of Nintendo software." We're sure it will be in an entirely objective, unbiased, above-the-board way ... of working with a company to positively influence software sales through editorial. What could be wrong with that? Oh.

I notice this thread has been dead for months. Have we all moved on to black monoliths and red-eyed cyborgs?

The last time I used my Wii was to use the Photo Channel to display an image on my TV so it would be well lit for me to take a picture of it and use it as a sticker on LittleBigPlanet on my PS3. Yeah, I used the Wii to aid a PS3 game.

EDIT: Before anyone else says it: Huh-huh, his name is Butt.

I use the Wii for Wii Fit butt (:P) haven't done so for a few weeks.

Yo I'd get the Wii Fit for Wii Music Only, play the drums . What other instruments does the wii music have that needs the fit board?

On top of which, Taiko Drum Master is out for the wii, in like 8 days from now , but it's only for japan :banghead:, but hopefully it'll come out for NA by new years

Do yourself a favor and just buy Rock Band or Guitar Hero World Tour for the Wii.

If you are going to get a music game at least get one that will have better music than public domain songs and Nintendo theme songs.

EDIT: And Wii Music is as much a music game as a Fisher Price toy.

Yeah, Wii Music is a total joke. I haven't touched my Wii (lol) since a few weeks after Smash Bros. came out. Kind of disappointing.

Turns out... wii (we) have a Wii! I think my stepfather got a used Wii. So if I get a chance to comment on some stuff, I'll be sure to stop by GTP and share my thoughts.

My GF and I were just playing a pool game we downloaded over the weekend (Cue Sports: Pool Revolution). As the background music was playing during a game I found myself thinking the words Markplaz, Ahrwieler (spelling?), and could not understand why. I then realized the music was the same as during the main page screen in GT5P, where your current car is displayed in various locations. It was a bit odd.

Not much of a pool game, for one reason-its impossible to get a decent break, even with max power, at various distances and angles. The balls stay fairly tightly packed and makes every game of 8 ball tedious.

I'm going to make a YouTube video showcasing my full ideas in regards to the Wii. But I think the Wii is plenty cool. We got a few channels on our Wii. It's a real kind of multi-purpose package. No wonder they sold so fast. Really cool system.

If I can make a suggestion, give it six months before doing this.

It will allow you to do one of two things first:

1) Possibly get a chance to play with the Motion Plus add-on, which will give it the 1:1 motion control they claimed it had at launch, possibly making it better. I know I am waiting for the first Tiger Woods game to use it.

or

2) You quickly realize that outside of a handful of games there is no motion control, just waggle. When compared to games on the other consoles most of them come across forced or half-hearted and you wait for Nintendo to put out another good traditional game. And if along the way you realize that to make some games better you bought a last-gen controller (Gamecube Wavebird for me) you then have to take a step back and wonder why.

Here is how my disenfranchisement with the Wii went.

Wii Sports - Hey this is pretty awesome. I am breaking a sweat. I could lose weight doing this. Wow, I even have muscle cramps!

Madden 07 - Offense is awesome but the defensive control needs more work. But I have to tip my hat to EA Sports.

Wii Play - Not quite as fun as Wii Sports but I am loving the 9-Ball game and the Duck Hunt like shooting game. Hey, I wonder if they will ever put Duck Hunt on the Virtual Console. It would be a perfect fit.

Tiger Woods 07 - Wow, it even has my slice. Wait, I can't compete in career mode at all. Let's put this on easy. There we go. I can feel it working my golf muscles. But what's up with putting still using the power meter? I guess this motion control thing still needs some work.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - This game even looks good. I am impressed. -Halfway through the story- Really, I just shake and he waves that sword around that much? I can sit down and play this. Good story though.

Super Mario Galaxy - Its fun but once again my fighting is 90% shake the wand around. I would actually have better control if I had a normal controller, but that won't work because you have to pick up star bits. That almost seems as if it was added to justify no traditional controls, and give your kid brother something to do. -after beating the game- Oh my God, my wrist is cramping up. Seriously?

MySims - Um, where are The Sims? This is just a block puzzle game. Ugh!

Carnival Games - Hey cool, Skeeball! All these other games suck though.

Resident Evil 4 - Wow the motion controls are just like the non-motion controls, except the fire button is also a trigger....after I changed it in the settings.

Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles - Light gun game Wooo!. Quick Time events?

Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Really fun game, but I am so glad I bought that Gamecube controller.

Endless Ocean - Hey, this game works extremely well! This is the first third-party game I bought since the system launched that was actually good! Too bad it is purely an educational game and I will likely only play it when I am tired of fast-paced games, but it works the way it should and doesn't feel forced.

I only point this out, because for the first six months I sounded like you. But then I realized that most games used motion control as a gimmick, not a game enhancing control scheme. I will even say that Nintendo did not kill their core traditional gamer base, that was done mainly by other developers. But Nintendo then threw salt on the wound with Wii Music. Was the world not full of guitar heroes and rock bands it might have been well received.

That said, my Gamefly queue is still 50% Wii games because I really, really, really want to like it and am willing to go through and find the hidden gems, like Endless Ocean.

I've been perhaps a bit more cautious in my game selection, because I've had almost nothing but positive experiences with my Wii. Here's how it went for me:

Wii Sports -- Fun in a group, pointless by yourself. Everything works great except for golf.

Excite Truck -- Fun game, tilt controls work well, graphics look nice, personal MP3 player is a nice touch (and other developers just ignored it). Short game, though.

Metal Slug Anthology -- I like Metal Slug, so I had some great fun with this, but it exposed two weaknesses of the Wiimote; lack of buttons and imprecise diagonal control with the D-pad. The game gives the option of using other controllers, though.

Sonic and the Secret Rings -- Many people didn't like this game, and I didn't at first, but after you earn the "upgrades" it's a blast. Pretty graphics, the tilt-control gameplay works alright, and it has a nice straightforward, old-school Sonic feel to it.

Metroid Prime 3 -- Amazing, totally eclipses the failure of the second game in the series. Great environments, smooth and intuitive gameplay, very polished and well-made.

Mercury Meltdown Revolution -- Interesting puzzle game, like one of those "tilt the marble" games but with liquid mercury. Didn't hold my interest for an incredibly long time, but I got my $20 worth.

No More Heroes -- Genius. It's clever, entertaining, engaging, and the gameplay thankfully kept to button presses for most of the hits, saving the motion control for the satisfying final blows.

Brawl -- Great game that would have been better without all of the crazy hype leading up to its release. I play it exclusively with the Wiimote and Nunchuck; I don't care what people say about the Wiimote or its motion control, the Wiimote + Nunchuck combo is the most comfortable controller I've ever used, period.

MarioKart Wii -- Tilt control works well enough, but the game is not very good. Extremely punishing, the most effective items appear far too often. Balance is thrown completely out the window, winning is a matter of luck (being the fastest driver is the worst thing you can do).

Okami -- Incredible PS2 action RPG that finally earned the Wii release it so desperately needed. Waggle control for the fighting takes getting used to, but works almost perfectly if you know what you're doing. Brush control is where this game shines; brush stroke recognition, not so much. But that was a problem in the PS2 version also.

De Blob -- Nice music/action game. Waggle is a little unnecessary, but not intrusive. Gameplay strikes that rare balance between letting young players have fun and keeping older players entertained.

I've also played and greatly enjoyed a lot of Megaman 9, but that's a tri-platform game.

I've been perhaps a bit more cautious in my game selection, because I've had almost nothing but positive experiences with my Wii. Here's how it went for me:
I just listed the more high profile games. Gamefly is still keeping my Wii in moderate use. It is just that most go back immediately and are so bad that it is evident motion controls aren't the problem.

Excite Truck -- Fun game, tilt controls work well, graphics look nice, personal MP3 player is a nice touch (and other developers just ignored it). Short game, though.
Endless Ocean has a stereo on the boat that loads music off of your SD card and plays that song in-game until you change it. So at least one other game utilized custom music.

Metal Slug Anthology
On my Gamefly list.

Sonic and the Secret Rings
I have a Sega collection for my PS2. That runs right up to when I quit caring about Sonic.

Metroid Prime 3
On my Gamefly list.

Mercury Meltdown Revolution
On my Gamefly list. Did you ever play Marble Madness? Is it similar to that? I used to love that game.

No More Heroes
Gamefly list.

I don't care what people say about the Wiimote or its motion control, the Wiimote + Nunchuck combo is the most comfortable controller I've ever used, period.
I think this is where we differ and it may purely be personal preference, but my timing is nowhere near as fast without using the Wavebird.

MarioKart Wii
Gamefly list.

I wasn't trying say the Wii itself is bad. It isn't. I have enjoyed plenty of games on it, and with the exception of Wii Music Nintendo themselves have been working to feed what their traditional core wants. In all honesty, I think the only complaint I have about the Wii is not giving multiple control options more often. If SMG didn't have the star bits gimmick it then had no excuse to force Wii Remote usage.

The problem is that developers have not used its strengths and don't use motion control well. Factor that in with the fact that since Brawl there hasn't been a game that I felt I just really wanted to get, while I am still trying to afford to get the 2008 PS3 games that caught my attention, and it is easy to see why I have fallen out of love with the system. I'm not a huge shoot-em up kind of gamer and so thought the Wii would work well for me while I waited for GT5, but its non-shooters that still appeal to a non-casual gamer aren't forthcoming.

That said, I should bump Boom Blox to the top of my game Queue after I get Rock Band 2. I'm also hopeful for Sim City Creator.

Now if Gamefly would give me more than a 50 game list.

And in case anyone is wondering: Wonderworld Amusement Park and Godzilla: Destroy all Monsters are just as bad as you would imagine. Nay, worse.

Okay, I've offered my views from my studio... which also serves as my room. Check her out:

It's a wonderful system for what it is. Plenty of new ways to enjoy gaming as you are the controller.

Thank you, SweetshopUnion. And yes, the Wii is a wonderful console even if people thought Nintendo was dead.
