First off let me just say that it's a TERRIBLE ripoff. They try to use the same funny punch lines, jokes etc. And frankly (from the preview i saw) it looks nothing less but a joke...And i'm an American.

Secondly the host's. Tanner Foust..Not bad, but the other 2 guy's? I know the chubbier guy is on that Nascar trivia show, or something like that on Speed channel, and the other fellow...I have no clue?

Idk, im just bias to the original, i never even bothered with the Aussie version (no offense guy's :sly:) or any of the others, but this American version was really the last straw for me.

No matter how hard these other guy's try the will never have the same chemistry as Jeremy, Richard, and James. And that's gonna be the problem with this version, they're gonna constantly TRY to be funny, and it's just gonna fail.

So with that being said, i WILL NOT be watching this.

P.S. I totally didn't see the movies and tv thread, so if a mod would like to move this, that would be highly appreciated.

So your basing your opinion of a show on a few commercials?

I will give it a go, I've never been a fan of the British one but there is nothing else on Sunday night.

No cable = no watching, but I might catch it on Netflix.

No, it was about an 8 mintue clip of the show where they drove this old Caddilac around, And from what i seen there wasn't good.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm a huge Top Gear fan, and I know it won't be as good as the UK version. But I won't judge it before I see it. So I'll be giving it a shot. Who knows, I may like it. Although it may be tough, since it's on the same hour as The Walking Dead.

Meh. Its been in development hell so long it probably won't be any good, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Can't fathom why it is on the History Channel, though.

I don't get why people are already hating on this show. True it says Top Gear, but I think it's a bit hard to expect something as great as TGUK, especially in the first season. Why can't people just watch it and appreciate it for what it is? Sure, maybe it won't be great but if people just watch it for what it is, I think it'll be pretty legit. And even as a Top Gear fan, when I was making my way through all 15 seasons of TGUK this year, I must say that the first seasons were awful, especially for entertainment. I think it's harsh to expect TGUSA to suddenly be as good as the UK show after it had many years to be what it is now.

That said, I will have this time on Sunday nights set aside to watch it, no matter how much it sucks. My girlfriend will also be joining me, which is awesome.

I'd like to at least watch a whole show before I damned it, but nothings better than the original. Accept, "The Italian Job".

You can't help but compare things like this.

I'm going to give it a shot. I'm sure the original is always going to be better, but I think that had a rocky start in the beginning... And look where that is now.

You never know. I guess we'll just have to see.

I think really, for me. It's the host's. You can't try to be funny whe you were never funny in the first place. Not that Jeremy and them were ever comedians them selves., they're just naturally funny.

Also, the BBC is the largest broadcasting company in the World, so they have endless amounts of money to throw at Top Gear UK. Im sure the History Channel isn't lacking for fund's them selve's, but there nothing like the BBC. So in that aspect it won't be as good either.

I just like how in the UK version they go to places you never really heard of. Interveiw people you never heard of. The UK version is just really unique, And i think the US version is gonna lack that.

I'll give it a shot mainly because TGUK is on a break so my download queue is empty, anyway, I agree with what Philly said, if you watch the first seasons of TGUK they're not great either.

The only season that didn't have James May was the first. It didn't instantly get good when we signed on. It had to warm up.

The Australian Top Gear is horrendously bad and I'd put money on the American one to be just as bad. I'm surprised Drew Carey isn't hosting it.

The show was pretty big right off the bat (in the UK anyway) Jeremy use to do it in the 80's and 90's so people were pretty hyped for it to come back. Top Gear US shouldn't need time to warm up. The shows name is already known so it's either gonna do really good or really badly, quickly.

And not everyone has the BBC channel. So more than likely Top Gear US is gonna do really well.

I don't think people were that excited about Top Gear coming back. Fifth Gear was already a few seasons in, and that was basically old Top Gear. Plus, have you seen the first season of Top Gear? There were like 15 people in the audience.

I agree Top Gear UK needed time to warm up, and yes looking back at the frist season with like 15 people in the audience is pretty funny. But im pretty sure 5th Gear started around the same time Top Gear did, it wasn't already a few seaons in, atleast i don't think anyway.

What could be said is...
Secondly the hosts. Jeremy Clarkson..Not bad, a bit opinionated, but the other 2 guys? I know the taller one used to be a car journalist, or something like that , and the short one...I have no clue?
Do you see the difference? Give it a chance before you just automatically slate it. 💡

Oh, and moved to the correct forum.

Atleast Richard Hammond And James may have been doing what there doing for awhile.

Tanner Foust. Established racing driver. Legit reputation with car's. And opinionated himself (he is a racing driver)

Rutledge Wood....Started off as an analyst for Nascar in 2008..And that's it.

Adam Ferrera...Mediocre Comedian, who's done some movies, TV etc.

:I went and got some Info on the other 2:

So, pretty much what your gonna have is one guy who can really, really drive. One guy trying to be funny all the time, and a fat guy with glasses trying to fit in with that...Im sorry but it's not gonna work lol.
Again this is just all my opnion...Sorry for the rant, and thank's for the move 👍

That sounds almost identical to the Australian one actuallly.

We have a fat comedian forced to be funny, a guy who 'can drive' (he can't, I've raced against him before but he's promoted as an excellent driver ) and some random guy trying to fit in. Doesn't work.

The chemistry between the poms is magical.

Confirmed by Wikipedia, Fifth Gear was already two seasons in by the time new Top Gear started.

I'll watch it, I'll give it a chance but my expectations for it are pretty low. I feel like it will be like the Aussie version, which I thought was pretty horrid.

Well *tongue in cheek* seeing as that other Brit export that became that AWFUL unviewed tripe that is American Idol I'll probably give this a pass.

Actually, if it's on Sunday nights at 9, It may prove to be on past my bedtime.
I may watch the first couple to see if it's worth the time.
As we get so little good automotive TV (that isn't public access) It has the potential to be good.
BUT only if they don't try to be the British version.
If they personalize the show, it may prove to be ok.

It's Sunday at 10pm on the History Channel so it appears it's past your bed time :P

Top Gear USA is for people who never heard or watched Top Gear International. If you have been a fan of the UK Top Gear, you will probably hate being American after watching the first episode of Top Gear USA. I know I will, and that's just from watching the stupid commercial where the guy blatantly rips off the UK version by counting the mph as he's driving and at the end "167 miles per hour in a four door". I googled it and it's a Maserati. I'd rather watch UK Top Gear any day of the week, but I will at least give the first episode a shot. If anything, it'll be good for a laugh as I compare every single second of it to its UK counterpart.

^ I thought it was the Porsche Panamera.

I watch BBC Top Gear because of the chemistry of Clarkson, Hammond, and May is often hilarious to watch. Just all the crazy things they do I can't even begin to name, cheap amphibious cars comes to mind as well as races between a Veyron and a plane and a GT-R against the Japanese Trains. Also, the three of them, especially Clarkson IMO, can drive a supercar to its' absolute peak. I know Tanner Faust can drive too, but the other 2 guys I'm not so sure. I will be definitely tuning in. I'm a huge Top Gear fan its just I think it won't stack up to BBC.

I'll give it a shot, if it's that horrible I'll just quit watching. I'm certainly not expecting proper Top Gear quality out of it.
