Just a reminder, Top Gear returns tonight on History. It's on at 10pm here on the East Coast.

^ Or 7:00 pm in L.A. time. ;)

-> Too bad I don't have cable/sat/etc., too bad I'm going to be still at work when it airs. :indiff:

I actually thought it was pretty entertaining. The hosts are definitely gelling together a bit more and the show sounds a bit less scripted. I laughed quite a few times throughout the episode too which is good! I'm also surprised how far the camera work has come, it seemed like last season they used a camcorder from Best Buy for some of the episodes, now it's go some good production value.

I'm looking forward to next week's episode too!

Great episode. Didn't get bored at all like I usually do. It helped that a Miata was one of the stars :) it looked badass in monster truck guise.

Can they manage to do anything original?:yuck:
It's the same production team as the original, so I am not surprised that they are redoing popular segments, especially considering the program is targeted for an audience that didn't watch the UK version regularly.

And even then, the production and writing is still far more original than anything James Burrows or Joseph Barbera did in the last 20 years.

I liked it when Tanner kept hitting the brakes and had his hand out the window like his car had hydraulics or something. Ahh it made me laugh.

It was a pretty okay episode, but from the preview the next one looks damn good. UK Top Gear doesn't always deliver so it's nice to see something a little different. Though they should poke some fun at Britain or something.

Do Americans watch UK Top Gear?
If they get BBC America, they can and car guys do. Not everyone has BBC America, I don't, and then I am unsure if we are getting the most current episodes there.

On Netflix we have series 2-13 I believe. They might be newer than that, I can't remember exactly.

On the topic of US Top Gear, I think it may be doing better than we suspect. These guys have been renewed and Speed is attempting to compete with The Car Show. It seems as if there may be an emerging market for actual automotive programming in the US that has to do with more than just NASCAR.

Meh, it was alright for me. I hated how Rutledge kept complaining though, and it doesn't really seem like the get along to well with each other. There were a bit of funny parts though, especially the part where Tanner acts like he had hydraulics in his car. To me though, there personalities are a bit stale, I guess I'm just so used to the UK version. This weeks episode looks fairly good though, lets hope it holds up.

Who wants to see an episode of Top Gear where they take on the UK hosts, that will be very interesting.

I just wish they were a little more creative. They use Clarkson's "across the line!" line and do pretty much everything basically the same. I know its the same show, but I'd like them to add their own flair, give me something that normal Top Gear doesn't. Until then, I'm sticking with the UK version.

To my knowledge Top Gear never created pick up trucks out of normal cars, and really what's more American flaired then pick ups, cowboys and Texas?

To their defense, I've only seen the one episode with the Viper and the helicopter. That one wasn't very original, I'm pretty sure it was the pilot. I haven't seen it on since then.

I want to like it, but can't make it through an episode about wanting to go off and do something else....it just seems so..not convincing. Such as the whole making fun of what car each of them choose during a challenge.

It's not doing a good job of setting itself apart.

That's what I was trying to say. It's not a bad show by any stretch of the imagination, but Top Gear UK has my expectations set so high that it'll take some time to adjust to a new group of guys.

It was the pilot and that episode was horrid. Try watching some later season 1 episodes, they are actually quite well done.

I will next time they're on, thanks bud 👍.

I must say that I actually quite liked that episode. I was just as much of a critic as anyone when US TG first aired. But now I think they've really hit their stride. Sure there are still a lot of parallels to the original UK TG, but with the same production office, this is to be expected. I really hope they keep this form up.

I just watched that episode – I definitely really liked it. I have to say that TG USA season 1 is quite a lot better than the reboot season of TG UK. There is potential.

And speaking of which, I’ll hopefully be on at least one of the episodes this season. :) Stood in the studio audience, and I believe they were going to use the footage for the season closer and at least one other episode. I have to say though it was quite a chore and I almost feel like I should’ve been paid.

I really enjoyed last night's episode, I think they are starting to click and make the show entertaining. The first car challenge this was pretty interesting and it was funny how they fit each of their first cars so well.

The ZR1/458 thing was kinda eh, but I loved the cinematography with the Ferrari in the warehouse.

And I think I died a little inside when I found out Chumlee from Pawn Stars drives a Maserati GranTurismo.
