It was physically impossible to make it all the way through the campaign without using some sort of standards. The truck race is the perfect example. ALL the trucks were standard, thus, you HAD to drive one to finish the entire campaing. So anyone claiming they beat the entire campaign yet never touched a standard car, is 100% lying. That's just 1 example. I know there are more events that required standards. Don't even get me going on the frustration of waiting for a truck to cycle day after day through the huge standard car list in the used section.Back when we were still waiting for Gran Turismo 5 to come out, there were plenty of people here on the GTPlanet forums and elsewhere across the Internet declaring their hate for the "standard" cars in the game, and insisting they'd only lay their virtual racing gloves on GT5's fully modelled "premium" vehicles.
Three years later, and I'm wondering if anyone out there has that mentality towards Gran Turismo 6's car roster, irrespective of Polyphony's/Kaz's decision to not officially differentiate the two types of cars by placing them in their own separate quality categories.
I won't be jumping on the poll bandwagon for this one, but I am interested in seeing what you've all got to say about it - are the 120+ new (presumably) "premiums" and the expected onslaught of fully rendered DLC cars in the coming months only going to keep you hooked on the high quality models, or will you be showing the "standards" some love and attention in Gran Turismo 6?
I only drive in cockpit view were ever possible.
Same here. I tried to avoid standards any way I could. Once they released the update that added the very generic black outline interiors, it helped a little but not much. But it did get me back into the game. At least I was able to drive all the cars from what felt like the inside. Compared to launch when standards did not have an interior AT ALL. 80% of the game.Same here, which is why I prefer the premiums.
I remember the noise about the standards when GT5 first came out. I did initially try to stay clear of them when I fired up my career but as Camaroboy mentioned, you reached a point where you really had no option but to use one. Before the blacked out cockpit update, they sure were a turn off. Killed the whole experience as I prefer the cockpit cam to anything. Also, I'm no physics guru, but it did seem that the physics of the standard cars were more "dull" than the Premiums. They just felt different, anyone feel the same?
The standards do seem better in GT6, won't be boycotting them or anything.
Yes the standards for sure felt like they had less effort in the physics department. Since they were ported from the PSP, along with all the other features being ignored, its no surprise.I remember the noise about the standards when GT5 first came out. Hard to say because most of the standards were from the 90's and back and most of the cars, even premiums, had less grip in the game, as they did in real life. You'd really have to do a side by side comparison to know for sure, with two similar cars, one premium, one standard. Also, I'm no physics guru, but it did seem that the physics of the standard cars were more "dull" than the Premiums. But with no indicator, unless it's super obvious, how can we tell which are premium? I would hate to choose a car, load the race, then go into cockpit view and see it was a standard, exit, rinse/ repeat. Put a 'p' or something.
