Welcome to GTPlanet. Just to let you know, "text speak" is not allowed so you'll want to make sure you fully type out words. Also, the wish list thread is HERE.

Personally, I despise drift and drag. I don't mind if it's an optional side activity, but don't want it in the core game. I like how Forza technically keeps track of drifting without presenting actual drift events, and how there are just a small percentage of drag events but only in the event list and never the career seasons. I already find ovals mind-numbing, but at least I get to turn left, unlike drag which takes even that away from me.

i agree, i just over heard someone talking about it, and just thought it was true, would be good if it was a side option, would be great, i more into the racing type, but still would be a good idea :)

Depends on how it's done. Adding funny cars and dragsters does seem like a cool idea at first glance but they would be worthless in any other race. I wouldn't pay 3 million+ for a car designed to travel in a straight line. :irked: I think hotrod/muscle car drag racing competitions with multiple heats against other cars would be great fun, especially if they brought back the Las Vegas Strip track from GT4! Only trouble is drag racing is only popular in North America and pretty much no place else.

Drag racing is immensely popular in Australia, or so I've been told. But yeah i agree with you about the pro drag racing cars. They would be fun to drive, definitely, but there's just no good way to incorporate them into the game. However, tuning regular cars(Ie, with liveries and aero packages and such), and then racing them on maybe a few dedicated drag strips would be fun.

Setting up a drag track seems so simplistic to me I can't believe they left it out of the game to begin with. It's not my bag, but then again, if you could enter a lobby and as host organize matchups, actually race for pinks where your car automatically gets shipped to another player at the end of the race, I think I could get into it. But without a purpose built track it's just a lot of hogwash at this point. Definitely should be in GT6:tup:

I think they could be very easy to impliment into the game. Especially the drag. The only problem with the drag is getting a fair competition. You cant do something like on passtime because theres no way people will agree so easily online in a video game as they would do face to face. So the PP would have to be so close that the cars would be a even match and that it came down to tuning to actually win or lose the race.

Because i mean, a 4wd like GT-R with who knows how much HP against say a Supra with = HP... i think the GT-R having 4wd may be just a bit of an advantage to me dont ya think? They would have to think of something special... same goes for drift i think, theres gotta be ssoemthing there because a 4wd drift car could get more traction to pull away out of a drift depending on the course they made... Lot of things to Consider imo but it is possible to do.

But in the end i think it would be a online thing. Possibly a special event at most for offline.

Don't know where you got the idea that drag racing was popular down under, the only motorsport that the general population really cares about is V8 Supercars.

I've been a drag racing fan as long as I can remember. As a kid I watched video tapes of legends such as Bob Glidden and Don Garlits and quickly became my highest dream to one day become a drag racer myself. However, like any other motorsport drag racing is expensive, and even if I could afford it the season here in Sweden is about as long as the off-season in the USA is short. This plus the fact that there are more drag racers around the world than there are drivers in any other motorsport is why I think Polyphony Digital should give us the first realistic virtual drag racing experience ever.

So, what would Polyphony Digital have to do to give us the best drag racing experience possible? Here is a list I made of the basic features that needs to be done:

• Accurate track measurements along with correct position of the starting line beams, speed traps etc etc.
• Fully and correctly functional christmas tree (0.400 pro, 0.500 pro and 0.500 sportsman.)
• Realistic representation of the procedures that takes place before the actual race (Roll through the water box, do a burnout and stage the car.) A lot of mind games can be played here.
• A true NHRA regulation system.

Here's some stuff I'll show you just for inspiration. It's for an rFactor mod that I'm working on.

Drag racing is a big part of racing all across the world. I am very upset that it wasn't included in GT5. However, my hopes are high for GT6

I would love drag racing courses like a long drag strip with the "christams tree" but I think they don't see drag racing as real racing so probably not going happen unless there is a crazy demand.👎

I think Gran Turismo has been skimping around excessively on drag racing. Retrospective: two drag racing cars in GT2- no proper drag racing. Drag racing nonexistent in GT3. Las Vegas Drag Strip for drag racing- no TRUE drag racing in GT4 except for a one-off video. GT5 has no drag racing, but several tracks have been used as makeshift drag courses on long straights. So it leads me to believe... when the hell will Gran Turismo finally implement proper drag racing? Does PD even want drag racing? Why beat around the bush or half-ass something when you can give people what they want?

That said, I CERTAINLY want drag racing in Gran Turismo 6. Now before someone says that drag racing is stupid or pointless, hear me out (not literally hear, but you get the idea). Drag racing is a test of reflexes and trying to draw the most speed out of your car. People think drag racing is stupid because you only race in a straight line. While that may be true, you have to remember you're racing against another driver trying to get to the line before you do. It begins with trying to cut a solid reaction time at the Start line without red lighting (jumping too early makes your run foul). Then, you have to get up to speed and make timely shifts to get the most speed out of your car. Most drag racing happens on quarter-mile tracks. Some series do eighth-mile drags. No matter what the distance, there is actual technique and science to drag racing than what most people make of drag racing.

If PD wants to make this happen, I think the low-speed physics need VAST improvement. I sure as heck want drag racing. Question is- will PD make it happen and make it happen proper? At least PD knows an audience wants drag racing.

Source please. I don't recall anyone from PD, especially Kaz, ever saying that.

Sorry, I should have phrased that differently. I just said that through my own opinion because GT5 has really never made anything in co-relation to drag racing besides some cars that people use to drag race with. Think about it, if you supply the cars why not supply a track? I understand these things aren't made in a day (eg. tracks, cars ect...), but there has always been a demand for some sort of drag strip. sorry for the confusion my bad. :dunce: <--- ME at the moment.

Kaz has talked about drag racing in GT, he said something about how different it was in how the cars are only designed to last a few seconds, and that if you build them too strong you are too slow and if you build them where they last a few tenths too less you blow up early and lose.

Drag racing has to be the easiest thing to add to GT.

I would like to see 4-wide strips. That would really help online, as would specialized online features

Sounds like he's talking about Top Fuel Dragsters or something. I hope he realizes that's not what we need.

I'd be happy with a real life NHRA drag strip and maybe a drag tire option. 9" slicks and front runners is well enough to have a decent drag racing mode and make any muscle car look cool.

Why would it help to have 4-wide races? More cars = more lag, and I'd say it's most important to keep the lag down in drag racing. Besides, there is only one 4-wide strip in the world at the moment.

The only way I'd see four-wide drag racing is if GT6 includes the drag strip at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Either that, or if GT6 wants to have some illegal street racing venue to serve as a drag strip (as I recall from "NFS: Underground" or once in "R: Racing Evolution"). Making a drag strip should be fairly simple. Gran Turismo has supposedly been using Bandimere Speedway. Why PD hasn't put in this track is beyond me. Or would PD make some fantasy course with all sorts of eye candy (for example- making Special Stage Route X rather than bring back the old Test Course) rather than make a simple and functional track?

Drag racing will need a proper format. There are a few different competition ideas I have:

* Time/Speed - these can just be simple competitions to clear the course in the quickest time. "NFS: Pro Street" comes to mind for me here.
* Series - first to a certain score wins. For example, best-of-5.
* Traditional - usual drag racing tournament.

It would also be cool if there were drag racing Seasonals to have some drag racing fun. Think of a Muscle Car Seasonal that's all about drag racing. I'd hate to imagine any sort of serious Performance Point restrictions in an all-out motorsport like drag racing.

I don't care for drag racing at all but I respect that many people do so it should be included, certainly. Likewise with drifting, as long as neither are forced upon people in who don't want to do them in A-Spec then sure, include them.

Yes I would love to see a Drag Racing mode in Gran Turismo 6. If they do decide to include it, hopefully it will include Drag Racing inspired aero modifications and performance modifications.

It would be great to run in classes as well. Pro-mod, Pro-Stock, Top Fuel etc as well as RWYB.

Having Drag Racing as a feature in Gran Turismo could open up the GT series to a whole new audience and if PD could get deals with NHRA pros like John Force and anyone else that would be a great opportunity for PD and Gran Turismo.

Not quite sure what you mean by "all-out motorsport" though. If you're talking about the drag racing you see on ESPN (Top Fuel dragsters, funny cars and Pro Stock), then sure, it is all-out I guess. That's just a small part of the NHRA though, let alone drag racing as a whole. By far the most popular form of drag racing is a handicapped form of competition known as E.T. bracket racing. You choose a dial-in and try to run as close to it as possible, but if you run faster than your dial-in you're discqualified.

In other words, except for the few pro classes drag racing is not about going as fast as possible. Drag racing is about good reaction time and consistency more than anything.

E.T. bracket racing makes perfect sense for PD to include in GT6, because that will let us race any kind of cars whenever we want. You could for example line up a Ford Fiesta against a McLaren F1 and both would have an equal chance of winning.

I think we'll see something nice. All the muscle cars will be fully rendered. It would be insane if they didn't have drag racing modifications. Side note: I'm expecting to see vintage Stock Car racing along the lines of the rendered drag cars.

Had a think about this. In order to make drag racing in Gran Turismo challenging, PD would have to make some kind of metre/measure of reaction time. Before even choosing a car, lets say in the license tests there are a series of lights that flash and you have to keep up in a certain time. Your score determines what license you get. From slow reaction time up to 15seconds quarter mile times(road car) all the way through fast reaction times 10seconds and under(cars requiring roll cages). It's a bit much to see PD do in the GT series but, IF PD includes some kind of bracket racing or if they acquire NHRA licensing( even though its not at all necessary to simulate drag racing) it may be something extra to achieve in the game than just grabbing any car and running it down the strip.

Sorry, what? So instead of practising your reaction time with your car at the track with the actual tree, you want to have a series of lights on the screen that flashes? And with quicker reaction times you get to drive faster cars?

That makes no sense at all, and where is the fun in it anyway?

Agreed with Post #15 from Strittan in response to 05XR8... are you nuts? Reaction time helping you determine what kinds of cars for you to race? Practicing reaction time should be a skill to master; not a gateway to faster cars. Hell, practicing your launch and reaction time should be something you should master with Standing Start races and Standing Start license tests.

The two real things that can be practiced for drag racing would be getting good reaction times and practicing making timely shifts. You have to try to get a great reaction time at launch while also knowing the right times to shift to get the most speed out of your car. Part of the reason why people don't like drag racing is because they don't generally care for the science and tactics of drag racing. It isn't about just going in a straight line. Then too, that's another thing about drag racing- trying to keep that land missile going cleanly down the strip can be like trying to wrestle a bronco or a bull. You have to try to make your car hook down the track even if you aren't getting too much grip. Speaking of grip, I wonder what it would be like if you had lane choice in a traditional drag racing tournament.

Just a lot of things to think about, especially for getting drag racing done right.

Nascar isn't real racing either but they have that in GT5. Drag Racing would be awesome for GT6 but the likeliness of this happening is slim to none.

In no way am I a NASCAR fanatic, but NASCAR is as real of racing as drag racing is. Both NASCAR and drag racing both have distinction and character. I disagree with slamming NASCAR like this.

I can't think of any form of motor racing that I want less than drag racing. I never even enjoyed it in real life.
