I've been using it for a week (64 bit version) and it's working great. In fact I've been using Windows 7 as my main OS for a while now. It's the best Windows I've ever used, will buy it for sure once it's released. I had to install only the Nvidia driver, all the others were automatically installed. And even the Nvidia one is downloadable directly through Windows Update, though there is a newer version available on Nvidia's website.

The drivers for my cell phone are automatically downloaded and installed too, and quickly, on XP I had to use the CD that comes with it.

All the games I've been trying on the RC are working fine, and they run slightly better than on Vista. Very solid OS. 👍

By the way, you can use this RC until June 2010, but beginning in March 2010 it will turn off your computer after two hours of use. I definitely recommend people to try it.

Looks like Windows 7 is a winner? I've already decided to hold off my PC parts purchase until it is officially released. I know I can get the parts and download this over the internet, can't I? I still want to wait for other parts to come out.

How's 7 as a HD-PVR? I hear Vista was good.

Yeah me too. If I can't get a good combo deal on newegg, then hopefully I'll be able to get a sick discount on a Windows 7 combo. Hopefully 40nm gpus will be in full effect by then too.

I'm thinking about trying it on an old machine. The machine has a 10gb drive for the system and then 80 and 100gb drives. It reccomends 16gb for Windows 7 but do you guys think that 10 will be enough for just a system drive?

I just installed the 64 bit version here at work yesterday and the Windows folder is at 11Gb.

My W7 box (my play box actually) which was installed when the first official beta hit the world, the Windows folder is 11.5Gb - Fits nicely with the number of updates I've received !...

That answers my question. Thanks guys.

*edit*
Got another one.

Is there anywhere else to download this from? The Java downloader is giving me around 40k/sec. TOOOO slow!

I presume you can't upgrade WinXP to this RC?
I don't think so. It wouldn't let me install the OS on a different HDD until I unplugged my HDD with XP. Then after I get W 7 installed and the other HD plugged back in none of the games, COD 4, COD 5 needed DX 9 dlls so I gave up. Even the Adobe flash player didn't work. I'll be glad when all these bugs are fixed because the OS is a lot faster than XP and the GUI is a lot better than Vista. I'm looking forward to this OS as opposed to Vista.

If you reinstall the games they will install the dlls needed. I'm playing CoD4 just fine over here. Also, flash player does work. Maybe you were using the 64bit version of IE or Firefox, in which case flash won't work because Adobe didn't release a 64bit version of it yet.

If I reinstall the games will I lose the progress I made in the game. I'm more worried about COD 5 than 4. I can add my profile easily in 4 but 5 is different. And yes I'm using the 64 bit version because I have 4gigs of ram.

I've made a back up of my save files before installing the RC. Not sure where the CoD 5 gamesave is located but CoD 4's is the "players" folder located inside the folder of the installed game.

And I meant the web browser you're using is 64bit. Windows 7 x64 can emulate x86 programs just fine, I use the x86 version of Firefox here and Adobe flash works with that. But if you use the x64 version of the browser Adobe flash won't work, because there isn't a x64 version of it.

Ok, last question.

The old box has a creative sounblaster card. Model ct4870. I cannot find any drivers for this. Even for XP or Vista. Any ideas chaps?!

My Dell Studio XPS13 arrived yesterday, so after checking the Factory Restore options I installed 7 x64 RC. It's running really well so far. I used the Dell Vista drivers for anything undiscovered by Windows.

I'm happy so far with the laptop integration too. Very quick suspend/restore with the lid, which has never really been usable on any other laptop I've used.

Nice!

I've been thinking about installing it on my Netbook, as I understand it operates (somewhat) nicely. I'm just not quite ready to drop it on the Vista or XP desktops yet.

I've been using Win7 as my main os since build 6801, and the whole time I have been using it I have not been disappointed. I have yet to run into a BSOD outside of when one of my old 1gb sticks was dying on me, but now that i'm at 4gb, its has been running flawlessly as a DAW, Photo, Video, & Gaming system.

I've been running 7 for about a week since my Vista Ultimate install was screwed up (by me, though), and I'm loving it as well (and I did like Vista).

Interestingly, my Studio XPS has just blue-screened for the first time as I was loading this thread. I've had a few freezes though, but normally on suspend/resume, which I guess is more a driver than an OS issue. I'll be updating drivers as soon as Dell start shipping them.

On another note, can anyone give me any clues regarding Bluetooth configuration? I'm trying to pair it with my phone to use for internet access.

I have a "Did Vista do this" question:
I know the Games folder was in Vista, but did it get boxart for installed games (I assume from the internet) like 7 does?

I can honestly say that I never even entered the Games folder when I was using Vista Ultimate, so I just wanna know.

Just checked on Windows Vista Business x64, and it does.

I just ordered Windows 7 for my home computers. 70% off through the introductory discounts. :)

It'll be a long wait until Oct 22nd, but at least I have the RC on my laptop for company.

Relating again to the Games menu (so I still don't know if Vista does it), Windows 7 apparently is able to somehow detect version info for the games you have and spit out ratings information (even more interesting is that I don't have San Andreas actually installed, so I am even more curious as to how it works).

So, is this on official release now? I want to try and use it with Boot Camp but don't fancy shelling out on the full thing just to test it! Anyone got any suggestions? I think I can get it with a bit of money off due to a pre-order discount but are there any other ways of getting it to test legally?
