Well, I'm downloading Boot Camp right now. I have a hankering to play Half Life 2 and FEAR and since my PC has been turned into a file server, I'm gonna have to install Windows on my MBP. Wish me luck! :)

Good luck... I've been contemplating this for a while now, because I have a lot more design programs for Windows instead of OS X, and I'm on a Macbook Pro now. But I really don't want to put Windows on the internal hard drive. And have wanted to put it on a partition I have on my external. Anyone try and have success at boot camp using an external hard drive?

I found that site last night. I got to the part where he explains how to extract SP2 through the command line and I get an error saying that the SP2 file is corrupt.

Is SP2 really necessary in order to install under Boot Camp? Can I install SP1 XP then use my SP2 cd and install SP2 that way?

Okay, just installed Vista on my Pentium 4 2.4ghz, 512mb RAM, 256mb Radeon 9550. Its very pretty, runs smoothly, and aero is the best thing since sliced bread. I have one complaint so far, I have no sound. Can anyone help me out? My motherboard is an Asus P4PE with SoundMAX Digital Integrated Audio, and Vista hasn't detected it (it doesn't appear in the Device Manager), and all the drivers on the Asus website are for 98/2000/XP/etc.
Can anyone help?

I think your problem is just like mine. We've both got no drivers for a hardware. In my case, its the wireless internet. In yours, its the sound. I think you just have to wait.

I don't have an Intel Mac, so my knowledge on Boot Camp is limited. But AFAIK, you need SP2 to begin with.

Did you run Windows Update? I didn't have sound until it updated.

Yeah, I ran Windows Update, it says that there are no new updates available, and I've still got no sound. :(
I might just have to wait until some drivers are released.

Okay, can someone that has used Boot Camp please help me? I am confused as hell as how to use it.

Alright, well I figured it out, but apparently I'm missing some fonts on my Windows cd ( ) so I'll have to burn another cd and try again tomorrow.

Ahh, it doesn't work. I download the file listed there, and follow the steps, and hit some trouble at the Device Manager part. I can't find anything listed as SoundMAX. Under Sound, Video and Game Controllers there's an 'Unsupported Game Port', and under Other Devices, there's 'Multimedia Audio Controller' (is that it?).
Anyhow, if I try installing those downloaded drivers on the Multimedia Audio Controller, the thing says "Windows cannot find driver software for your device."

Ahh, problem solved. I downloaded the XP drivers from the Asus website, and than ran them in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2. So far it all seems to be working perfectly, I have sound, and am listening to the included audio tracks in Vista.

Good to hear, Revolution. Now you can fully enjoy Vista! Alright, since we haven't had an update for a while...

Update: Windows Vista Product Guide Released

Want to learn more about Windows Vista? You can now download a comprehensive feature-by-feature guide to Microsoft's upcoming operating system. From the download page:
The product guide is available as a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document (65MB) or XPS (25MB). In order to view the XPS document, you will need to install the reader (included in Windows Vista).

Edit #1: Was the person typing up the page drunk? I spot a few spelling errors.

Edit #2: So, anyone here want to tell me if this guide is any good, since Microsoft conveniently made it available only as Word 2007 and XPS files.

I gotta try this with the internet adapter with my PC. But then I'll have to install Vista on my PC again, the fourth such install in four months...:guilty:

I don't think the format changed from Word 2003 to Word 2007? If the previous versions of Words, such as Word 2000 was able to open documents made with Word 2003, then this shoudln't be a problem. Maybe except for its fairly large size.

You can download something to open these files since you're on Windows XP. But I'm on Ubuntu, so there's no viewing these files for me.

Okay, I burned another copy of my slipstreamed XP cd I made and I'm still missing fonts. Can anyone explain wtf is going on? I'm not missing fonts on the original cd so this is really confusing.

Okay, so its strictly not ontopic, but can anyone help me out with DVD playback with WMP11 or Media Center? I've tried three different DVDs (The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and Die Another Day for what its worth) and I get the same error with all three, this one:
wmp_error.jpg

(not my screenshot, I found this conveniently when googling for solutions to my problem)
When I click on the Web Help button it takes me to a Windows Media webpage and suggests I update my video drivers.
My video drivers are the latest ATI Catalyst drivers for Vista from the ATI website, any other suggestions on what to do?
When trying to play them in Media Center I click Play DVD Movie from the main screen and it flashes up a "Cannot Plau DVD screen so quickly I don't have time to read it.

I often get that with some mp3 files that I try to play. Seems like that some files are just odd or messed up, even though they show up as "avi" or "mp3"

Why not try using another program, like RealPlayer, InterVideo WinDVD and such, if it works?

Uneasysilence has a video of this and you have to update your Mac OSX to like 10.4.1 or something like that, then you download bootcamp, burn the XP drivers from the bootcamp thing, then load bootcamp, insert XP SP2 disc and install that...

That's the link for the video, but I can't get it to play. I know I saw it play like that before but I totally forget how, it was about a month ago.

Now that Vista is finished and Edgy has been out for a couple months now, it's time to concentrate on Mac OS X "Leopard."

Here are new Leopard screenshots from Think Secret. This is build 9A321. No sign of the "top-secret features" yet, but it looks like they have made some small additions to improve usability. They have also added support for the Zettabyte File System, although it's not fully functional at this point.

There have been rumors of a new interface to replace aqua - a dark "glossy" interface. I'd prefer a darker gray (similar to iTunes, minus the ugly scroll bars), because a dark glossy interface would be too similar to Vista. I also hope they get rid of the brushed metal look and have a more consistent theme throughout. I'm sure we'll get more information during Mac World San Francisco next month.

Note: The page I linked to may take some time to load.

Seems like nowadays, everybody is ditching their current UI design and rushing to create a dark-themed UI. A trend started by Vista? If not, what is it?

Maybe. It's not a bad thing though, because Vista has a great looking interface.

As long as its tasteful, I don't mind if Apple goes with the dark glossy route with OS X. I'm not a huge fan of the brushed metal.

Me neither.

The one thing I like with Mac OS X is that I can change quite a few things that are impossible to do in Windows - or at least, I don't know how - such as highlight color, wallpaper autochanger, etc. Especially the wallpaper autochanger, its pretty useful.

This set contains my work from the Microsoft Photoshoot I did late 2005 - early 2006.

My mission was to create genuine images to be a part of the Windows Vista Wallpaper collection.

Two shots from the Photoshoot (first two in the set) made it to Vista's Wallpaper Collection, while many others remain here, and waiting to be uncovered.

I couldn't be honored enough for the privilege to work with Microsoft on this fantastic project.

Enjoy :)
